mack
I wonder what the total crowd is going to be. The upper corners are the emptiest, they may have only sold a limited amount of seats in those sections. It still looks 90% full at least. Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment

mack
29,047 announced. That seems roughly correct although we'd need to know exactly how many seats in those corner areas aren't being sold at all. Link to comment

Watching nrl game now that the sun has set, do you think it’s very dark in the upper tier? You can hardly see the fans and sun is not completely set yet. I wonder if anything will be said about it. Thoughts? Link to comment
Smoggy
If we show half the intensity that Eels have in their first game at the new place we would beat anyone. mack and Prydzopolis 2 Link to comment
mack
It looks pretty dark all over the stadium now that I think about it but particularly the upper deck. The lightning is very much aimed at the field. Although the way the cameras work it's probably as much because the field is extremely bright and the Cameras would have filters that will reduce the exposure of the seating. It might also be that the stadium lightning rig isn't quite set to night mode yet. Edit - There was an overhead shot that looked like many of the lights were off, especially in the North stand which seemed to be completely off. Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment

Hughesy
I’m a big fan of the dark stands and illuminated pitch, almost like a spotlight type setup. If there actually were 29k there yesterday then there must have been a lot of standing patrons along the terrace of either side. The back of the stands at either end had big patches of empty seats and around the scoreboards there seemed to be a weird exclusion zone where people didn’t sit - I wonder if that was on purpose? Regardless, pretty annoying to see empty seats there yet I couldn’t get a ticket to the game. I said it when they first announced this new stadium and it’s now occurring - a buyback scheme for both clubs is going to be of high importance otherwise it’s going to be the same issue as the old stadium just on a bigger scale andypk, Prydzopolis, wendybr and 2 others 5 Link to comment

rcfinc
Any experts out there who can convert the 4pm shade line in Mack's first photo of the Eastern Stand into say 1 Oct, 1 Nov, 1 Dec, 1 Jan, etc for a 5pm or 7.50pm kickoff? I am in Row 21 in Tier 2 and wondering where the hot westerly sun will be shining. I remember too well cooking in the Parra Eastern Stand back in Feb 1991 when Czechoslovakia beat Australia 2-0. The night kick-offs 7:50 (more like 8pm in the last year or so) will be fine for everyone. By 8pm even at the height of summer the sun will have set below the main grandstand before it actually sets which is by about 8:10 at the latest and only for a few weeks. If we play games at 5:45 it'll be a bit of an issue but I'm not sure how big of one it will be. rcfinc, wendybr and Prydzopolis 3 Link to comment

FCWanderers
There is an article on the Roar website written by a Parramatta Eels member today, complaining about the afternoon sun and seating in the eastern stand. I won't link it here but seek it out, if you are interested and have seating in the eastern stand next season. The evening matches kicking off at 7:30pm shouldn't be a problem, but matches kicking off at 5:30pm may have an issue with the setting sun for members seated in the eastern stand. For those hardened east standers from the old place it doesnt matter, our eyes have adapted to looking at the sun ( which you should never do kids). Maybe the club should include a pair of polarized sunglasses with the membership kit next year for eastern stand members, instead of just deciding whether to include a cap or bucket hat in the members kit.
