If we lose Duke for a long time we've got no A-League level recognised striker. Yeboah has been mostly a winger/wing forward and I don't think has the ability to hold the ball that we'll require if we play a 5 man defence with wing-backs that need to run up the field to provide width.

Well perhaps Tomi Juric comes back as an injury replacement.

Ohh bugger..big blow to seasons plans if Duke has a serious injury..sounds like an out to far side of new year job perhaps..

One (important) player injured and it seems as though some think the season is over before it begins. If this is the case, we're in big trouble because you cannot hinge your whole season on just one player. Even if it's not a serious injury, we lack experienced depth up front and this needs to be addressed more sooner than later (remembering that Duke is not really an out and out striker anyway). We still have time and we'll just need to wait patiently and pray MB has a plan.

Match report from our game. https://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/news/pre-season-wrap-wanderers-crush-gold-coast-knights

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have warmed up for their FFA Cup Round of 32 game against Perth Glory with a resounding 5-0 win over Queensland NPL club Gold Coast Knights on the Gold Coast on Thursday night.

In their fourth hit out of the pre-season, the Wanderers looked sharp and hungry against a Knights side that provided some decent opposition.

Kwame Yeboah continued his good, early season form with a brace, following up his fine goal against English club Leeds just six days earlier.

Yeboah opened the scoring after just four minutes then added a second in the 51st minute while Bruce Kamau also helped himself to a double. Radoslaw Majewski rounded off the scoring with a goal in the 90th minute.

Yeboah and Majewski were in sparkling form, causing the NPL side plenty of problems with their creativity.

The duo created numerous chances while Pirmin Schwegler was outstanding in the midfield.

Markus Babbel made a number of changes as the game progressed with Kosta Grozos coming on for Mitchell Duke after 40 minutes and Daniel Georgievski for Daniel Wilmering in the 55th minute.

The game rounded off the Wanderers week-long training camp on the Gold Coast.

Western Sydney Wanderers 5 (Yeboah 4’ 51’, Kamau 58’ 82’, Majewski 90’)

Gold Coast Knights 0

Western Sydney Wanderers FC: Daniel Lopar, Tate Russell, Tass Mourdoukoutas, Daniel Wilmering (55’ Daniel Georgievski), Mathieu Cordier, Bruce Kamau, Keanu Baccus, Pirmin Schwegler, Radoslaw Majewski, Mitchell Duke (40’ Kosta Grozos), Kwame Yeboah (80’Mohamed Adam).

Neither McGowan or Tarek got a run. Good to see Russell and Cordier played the full 90.

And Ziegler didn't feature either.

McGowan looked out of place/sorts against Leeds.........not surprised MB gave him a "rest".  Will take time to adjust so no need to write him off yet. I think Elrich will be used more as a sub this season. They're going to be cautious with Ziggy after what happened last season. Good for Majewski to get a goal....will be good for the confidence.

I wish the club would put up a replay or at least an extended highlights of the match.

As for a comparison, GC Knights are 3rd in Queensland NPL. Team beat them 5-0

Brisbane Roar played a friendly against the 10th placed Queensland NPL team. Won 4-0 the other weekend.

As for McGowan, he appears to lack match fitness.

Grozos on for Duke at 40'. Must be fit

At this rate, a safe option would be Berisha.

I messaged Mitch saying I hope it isn't an ACL as rumours suggest. He replied "Not sure yet man😥😥". He would be a MASSIVE blow to lose for the season. Not just in individual talent but we all saw the effect he had on the team's attitude when he signed last season. Fingers crossed😩😩😩😩

You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think that. Kruse is going to have a solid season here for sure, fast, can cross it, gets into good position. Against a lower quality defence and keeping, I'm sure he will be scoring a few for Vic. No doubt we will still have to deal a few of those whinging faces of his zoomed right in when he gets tripped up though.

His record is not exactly flash, he has only had one decent season since he left here 9 years ago - 11/12 mostly injured (0 full games), 13/14 mostly injured (0 full games), 14/15 mostly injured (0 full games 3 games as sub only), 15/16 mostly injured (1 full game some sub appearances), 16/17 (0 games on bench a few times but never played), 18/19 injured most of the season played a few.  He really only had that 17/18 season and outside of that has never been a regular anywhere due to injury or lack of fitness.  Can't see how a body that is now 10 years older in a league which is a lot more agricultural lets say, is going to turn him into a star.

If it is an ACL then his season ended yesterday. And it means the Al Hilal curse (ACL pact we made with the devil) is still strong  :shok:

Not that long ago career ending type injuries. Thankfully better treatment these days and fingers crossed for better news...but sounds bad :nono: His energy and enthusiasm was Santa-esque, will miss.

There’s a lot of research and evidence that shows Australia is possibly too trigger happy with ACL repair surgery. Where we refer up to 95% of ruptures, some parts of Europe and the rest of the world only refer 50% of cases. There’s a few case studies of EPL players playing long and successful careers without an intact ACL, one of whom didn’t have one in either knee!

There’s a bit of useless info for you on this Friday arvo haha
