2019/2020 Season draw and fixtures.

Recommended Posts

Well, the draw has been delayed this season, apparently due to issues with stadium availability and trying to strike a deal with Channel 10 to show more games. Word has it that it will be out within the next week or two.

See below, a draft, one of many which has been released to clubs.

Just a few notes:

* 11 team competition this season which means all teams will have 3 byes each.

* Uneven amount of games between teams. All teams play each other team twice, and to make up the required amount of fixtures, all teams will play against a selected number of other teams a third time.  Knowing the FFA, they'll be pushing for derbies to be the third games as much as possible. Metrics and all!

* The below draft has us playing ESFC at home in Rnd 3. Indeed, if we are playing ESFC 3 times, the draft option has our home derby over and done with very early in the season. Not sure if good.

Anyway, be interested to hear everyone's thoughts of the first (possible) 5 rounds, then after the draw comes out officially, possible Tour of Duty matches  etc...

Key Points for the Hyundai A League 2019/20 season:
11 clubs
29 rounds (13 home & 13 away per club - 3 byes per club)
Round 1: October 11-12-13 (FIFA international window)
Round 29: April 24-25-26 (Anzac Day weekend)
No break for FIFA international dates
No Spilt rounds (Bye preferences for 3 club participating in the 2020 AFC Champions League - Perth Glory, Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory)
Hyundai A League 2020 Finals Series structure remains the same as previous years (Elimination Final - May 1-2-3), (Semi Final - May 8-9-10)
Hyundai A League 2020 Grand Final - Saturday May 16 or Sunday May 17

Opponent Match-Up Weightings - Methodology:
Due to the uneven number of rounds of season 2019/20 each club will play a minimum two matches against each other club
Select third opponent match-ups will be determined according to agreed methodology

Key Principles,
Priority 1: Maximise Hyundai A League broadcast metrics
Priority 2: Fairness & competition integrity for all clubs
Priority 3: Maximise Hyundai A League attendance metrics and other commercial priorities

So basically the following fixtures will be the ones played a third time:

  • Sydney derby
  • Melbourne derby (old and new derbies)
  • Big Blue
  • Adelaide vs Victory
  • WSW vs Victory (?)
  • F1 derby (?)

Which if that is the case completely contradicts priority point number 2...

We're talking the FFA here and metrics. So, yes.

The only priority that matters to the FFA is point 1.

I truly love that the new team in the competition is playing away in the first week. I think that just encapsulates the failure that is the FFA.

If the team draw holds then we'll have Mariners, Roar, SFC, Nix then City in the first 5 rounds.

If Perth don't have to play Sydney FC 3 times they're going to have a big advantage in the league.

My pick for what our 6 "3rd games" will probably:

Sydney FC - Obvious reasons

Victory- Obvious reasons

Mariners- Large away crowd

Jets- Large away crowd

City - Force an away crowd

Western United- Force an away crowd

Also, do we know if Sydney will still get 2 homes games for derbies this season under this change this season, or does this effectively reset the previous 2/1 interchange? Would be great to have 2 derbies at Parra...

Technically they’re playing every game ‘away’ for the next 3 years and probably more. Possibly indefinitely 😂

I would love to get these 6 games.

honestly this whole season's draw is gonna be ****ed and unfair and uneven, and it ******* pissses me off no end that the macarthur team wasn't brought in this season to have a balanced draw.

although MacArthur FC's inclusion would help, you will still have a lopsided draw as the FFA will stick to 26 regular rounds. This will mean playing 7 opponents twice and 4 opponents three times.

Only by adding two more teams will we have a proper regular season

Yep, given we have such a long offseason we should just play everyone three times

Brisbane were pissed off with the first draw as were Melb Victory.

The draw is marginally better for the Vuck (2 home games) but still sh!te for the Roar with 1 home game and its it's against us.

Only a football person would think/agree to 3 full rounds with games played midweek.  Anything else is:crap:

PS. Plus no allowances for acl rounds/clubs....

We won it without concessions - what has everyone else done WITH them......

This the group stages of the acl aren’t the problem it’s the knockout stages that kill and lately that’s irrelevant to the Australian team

Since we won the ACL, the general effort and attitude towards it has been pathetic. Sydney like the idea of doing well in it but just haven’t been able to do anything. The biggest disappointment for me is Victory given their size and stature. Most years they look like they couldn’t be less interested which I find really disappointing. It will be interesting to see how Perth go given Sage’s obsession with SE Asia

Draft AL draw #56.

Perth away, 2nd round bye, 3rd round home Derby. Perth again (home) in round 6 just for variety
