Squad Development 2019/20 Part 2

This is an extract from an article I just posted in the W-league thread on Denise O'Sullivan.

"The trademarked grit and hustle of O’Sullivan’s unrelenting style of play was a welcome addition to a Wanderers squad that finds itself second in the W-League, having lost just once in eight matches this season.

Like she does with the Courage, O’Sullivan bossed the midfield with the Wanderers, showing her willingness to do the dirty work – hustling back defensively to provide cover for her backline, stymying opponents with her one-v-one defending – all the while remaining a key cog in her team’s build-up play"

We need all our squad to epitomize this.

She's ace and what the mens team is missing

Duke needs to be secured. If we don't we lose him to Macarthur Fox pod confirms that one of the main reasons he signed was to come back home be close to family and Macarthur is sniffing around any player with contract expiry

I know where his parents live :ninja:

Bulut mk3. The 'not having to work under Popa' episode.

15 goals a season easy, you'd get him for Sotirio level $$$ too.

Lock it in.

Is that you KB?

Keep tooting that horn mate, love it!

Dario Vidošić is free. A 6 month contract would suit us depending on how JP wants us to line up

We have a trend

Gavin Costello - Football Operations Manager

Denise O'Sullivan- Guest player

Simon Cox - forward, apparently a No. 10

Common theme - all Irish

Based on the ATB interview, we could be playing the following 2 formations

3-4-1-2 Muller and Duke as twin strikers

4-2-3-1

Cox replacing Majewski in either formation.

Understandable given events but still kinda amazing how little we have discussed/speculated what Simon Says’ arrival will mean for the team. I know there was discussion at the announcement but since Babbel’s sacking seems to be virtually none.

Are we all worried that if we say anything we will jinx him?

It would be sad if he turned out to have been the missing piece that turned Babbel’s season around (...I know, I know....but hope springs eternal right? It has to or you would not be Wanderers fan).

Can we please just play Muller in the position he has played his whole career? He killed it when we did.

No. We just need to keep Dylan McGowan away from him

This. Yes please.

On Cox, everyone should listen to the ATB extra podcast with the guy from Southend. That should help everyone understand where Cox actually plays mostly.

Surely we have someone in mind if he's nicked off. Right now we have 1 fullback. I expect there is a signing on the horizon here.

Of course this could mean JP is doing something smart. Kamau to RB, Muller to the wing and get an actual CAM

Kamau is not a fullback

Kamau is not a right back's arsehole

More a comment on getting Muller out wide than Kamau's footballing ability... or lack there of

Doubt it, he wouldn't be leaving mid season for a team not playing till next season

Adelaide were apparently bringing back an ex-player. I thought it may be Kamau, but could very well be Elrich.

Was thinking the same thing. No other notable players who play right back or AM/CM who are free agents.

Although looking at players who's contracts expire at the end of the season there are two of note.

- Fran Karacic: plays right back, 23 years old, (Almost got picked to the Aus World Cup Squad), https://www.transfermarkt.com/fran-karacic/profil/spieler/367795

- Oli Bozanic: plays AM/CM, 32 years old, currently at Hearts of Middleton, https://www.transfermarkt.com/oliver-bozanic/profil/spieler/43117

Their contracts finish midway through this year but could we possibly seek a mutual termination from both/one of them. I fell Karacic is highly unlikely as he is young and already playing in Europe. Bozanic is more likely but probably won't end up happening.
