Five Star Flogging For Adelaide

Recommended Posts

1-0 up, I was expecting us to crumble like we did this season and it only took 7 minutes after we scored, then Adelaide scored their second and I was cursing the bloody TV for the Wanderers usual fade then suddenly we score like 2 goals in 3 minutes and I was like WTF?

The first half in couldn't believe what I was watching, we hardly score 4 goals in a half let alone struggle to score 4 goals in 10 games. What has changed from the complete rabble we had last week to scoring 5 goals?

Bruce Kamau had his best game for sure and I like to see him run the ball more often in open space like he did last night, to set-up Muller and then Cox was class. Duke for once was finally clinical last night, no Yeboah to mess up our attack.

My only negatives from last night were DDG, Ziegler and McGowan, all 3 made defensive mistakes which resulted in Adelaide scoring.

Ziegler is on 4 yellows.

Tass is guaranteed to get a game soon

Ziegler is lucky not to have collected a red in the 90th minute, down by the corner flag chops the Adelaide player as he goes past him, obvious yellow card, he was a very very lucky man.

yes Adelaide scored 2 but thought the defence stepped up from prior matches, they were actually throwing themselves in to block last night, probably Mcgowan i would say tried to improve his performance beyond previous showings, yes a bit weak on 2hnd goal but clap on the back he put the effort in.

Duke is an animal, first on the sheet every week, as in program notes "Bruce 2.0" keep it up son you are improving at a hell of a rate, great work.

Can we play a team that played like them every week. They were disgraceful and made us look better than what we are I feel.

The goals we scored were mostly from us passing accurately to a player running into empty spaces. Cox's through ball to Duke...Kamaus and Coxs  1-2 with Kamau passing to Muller for a tap in.....Schweglers ball to Duke who headed home...Kamaus through ball to Cox.

We've lamented our teams poor pass options or the lack of quality in passing, our players not running into spaces...etc...last night the team showed our players DO have those skills. Sure Adelaide weren't that good but I'd rather give credit for us and our effort.

PS.....4 of our 5 goals were from open play...not set pieces or corners.

That was much more like entertainment than most of the possession rubbish served up under Babbel. I remember one early home game (Brisbane, I think) where it was excruciating to watch. I wrote after that one that Babbel should find another team to coach - and I was right!

I counted just three occasions where we turned the ball back through multiple players in succession when in possession, last night. I would much rather see the team win scoring multiple goals, while conceding, than just trying to keep a clean sheet.

The energy and commitment lasted far longer than last week's 25min - and true, Kamau was terrific. We will face much tighter defences than Adelaide's, but we have to keep pushing forward, and being innovative in breaking through. All around this was a most enjoyable performance. Well done guys! More of this type and the crowds will come back!

we should have sung the chorus to this

I put up with 2 minutes of torture listening to this to find out what the chorus is. I'm none the wiser. I barely understood a word.

This game proves I know nothing about football. I thought we'd be spanked. Shame on me.

To be honest, anyone who has been watching us this season will be wondering where that performance came from? Nothing in the previous 5 months have eluded to a performance where we looked very comfortable? Didn’t score a goal & switch off immediately after taking that lead? Or scoring chances that we create? Or a mostly complete performance before we lost puff around 70 minutes?

I think Cox really transformed the way we played. So valuable in the way he linked the play & generally was someone we could use as a hold up man. His improved fitness means a lot too, he looked to get better as the game went on too. To think he is only a league one striker too, not an amazing talented player but someone who fits the system we are playing.

Hate to mention it, but the lack of Yeboah made a big difference too. Good to see Mo Adam get more than 5 minutes, shows that he can put in a considerable contribution if he gets a bit of game time.

Who got man of the match? If it was anyone other than Kamau he was robbed.

Outstanding. Playing a wing back in a back 3 is a very specialised role but Kamau’s engine allows him to perform his defensive capabilities while taking advantage of natural attacking instincts. It looks like he has gotten his confidence back too, that willingness to take on & beat his opposite number then transformed to the whole team with a few mazy runs. Boy we have been missing that!

They looked brimming with confidence all game...and obviously, as the goals happened, that would have increased. Plus they looked like they were having fun!

I know there was speculation about a (new??) Sports Psychologist a while back?? It'd be great to know what was "tweaked", but whatever it was, we can only hope it's a permanent change!

Cox is still not 100% (and he said it as well) but I noticed the number of runs makes. Unfortunately most of the times the are in vain as the others are a bit slow or never play him thru but it will get better.

I also have to say that I cannot see Yeboah starting again.

Don't feed trolls.

Any news on Baccus? Didn't look good at all...

I provided an update on twitter earlier today.

He told me he can't straighten or bend the leg fully. Even IF he's only jarred it & that's a big if, it's unlikely that he'll play on Friday.

Keanu (Best Baccus) is walking ok this morning & has good strength in his knee, but will require scans on Monday to determine the extent of his injury #WSW

Thank god wanderers are back in business. Boro took 4.5k to bottom of table Barnsley today and lost 1-0 without a shot on target. Bad for the Boro players that the tunnel at Oakwell is in the corner near away fans, they gave them hell. Going down to leauge 1

As for Wendy's question above about what has changed. Acurate ******* passing from one player to another always helps! Best we have been all season at that...and retaining possession.

That was a mental victory as much as anything. When we conceded those two goals in quick succession I thought that was the game over. To my surprise, we persevered and it made a big difference.

Much more movement off the ball, playing into space and using the width of the field. I didn’t think Adelaide were that bad tbh, we were just better.

I know how we got 9k count

Wife and I are sitting in our season ticket seats in the red area , up walks a bloke and his son and says hey you are in our seats holding out 2 tickets purchased at the gate,

I said bugger off mate we have season tickets here on these 2 seats he said nope you are in our seats so I looked at his tickets and sure enough he has exactly the seats we have as season ticket holders.

We have 7 season ticket seats so I said all good you can sit beside us. I took a photo of his tickets.

At half time I find a bigshot from wanderers  and he tells me the reason is that ticketmaster sold the season tickets and ticketek sells the match day tickets,

He then offers me a couple seats in the west stand ,  no thanks mate I am on the half way line bottom of second level and there is no better viewing than that.

He says we will ring you during the week and offer me and wife a west seat on the next Derby day , I said sorry mate I am visiting the Fussballgott in the Germany that week.

Ok I will ring you.

Well I spent my time watching the game and one major thing I noticed as we all would have and that is we played out the game at high level for 75 minutes of the 90 and the other 15 at a good level so fitness is not our problem obviously, lack of skill is not our problem obviously , playing as a team is nor our problem obviously, so what has been our problem for the over half the season that has stopped us performing at Friday nights level.

Opinions ?

Confidence?

PS. I also think skill. Yes we were good on Friday, but geez, generally, our passing and skill levels have been appalling this season.
