It looks to be Boris Johnson's Freedom Day approach with no restrictions.

Infections increasing, hospitalisations increasing and death all increasing

Look at the data in the link

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

And this was reported recently by Dr John Campbell. I follow him and Wendy does as well.

In other countries with high vaccination rates there are still hospitalisations and death. The data for Malta, Iceland and UAE all with highly vaccinated populations for the last 14 days. I am not sure on what age range these countries base their vaccination rates

Country.|population|Cases.|Deaths|% vacc
Iceland..|343,870....|799.....|..........1|77.07
Malta....|442,938.....|689.....|..........9|80.52
UAE......|10,031,996|13,618|........25|77.11

What this highlights to me is that Berejiklian is playing fire using 70% of the NSW population 16+. If she used 70% of population 12+ as well as 14 days after achieving 70% to open slightly, it would be closer to 85% of the population 16+

I understand you arguments. The link shows 7 day averages which show a small rise but I think can be a bit misleading if you are not comparing to the peak of their previous outbreaks. Maybe this is what living with the disease looks like? Still a lot of cases, relatively less deaths but in the unvaccinated?

Although I do agree that 70% is ambitious, I think the data you describe shows us that Delta is here to stay till we have effective treatments. Get vaccinated or get sick, that’s the choice. We need to move on at least by 80% of the eligible population being vaccinated.

The elephant in the room on the 70 or 80 or 90, is the 20% of people badly effected and the say guess 10 to 15 % anti vax...

There is a point in time when people adversely effected will simply go outside set rules.

Try telling the process worker in Fairfield they can't go to work and feed their family.

Social messaging is important, not to those who will follow the rules, but to people effected by the rules.

Beyond this, increased depression, family violence is said to be increasing..

Staying in lock down and or getting out is not as easy as those unaffected think.

Come on guys.

Which country waited for 70% of 12+ population to get out of a strict lockdown. Most were opening up at 40-50% of 16+.

Our opening is pretty limited. Only vaccinated can participate in it.

I don’t always agree with you, but I do on this point.

We will have one of the most conservative re-openings in the world at 70% fully vaxxed.

People need to remember that will also mean an effective 1st dose rate of  most likely 80-85% too.

The restrictions upon opening are quite reserved too. Density limits still in place, masks indoors etc. With everyone being vaccinated, it also means the risk of a super-spreader event is highly unlikely.

People are worried about the 12-15 age group, and I agree we need to make sure they are factored in, however they only make up 4% of the population. We will be able to knock those guys over pretty quickly.

My main concern is the regions. We need to ensure vaccine equity and supply into regional NSW to ensure their vax levels are at parity with Sydney. No use setting vaxxed metro people loose on the country areas if they aren’t vaxxed. I hope they use the next few weeks to increase Pfizer in those areas.

It's a great idea. They're such a waste of time and just fuel fear and anxiety for the public.

The less reported about Covid the better people's mental health.

Snippets at the regular news bulletins is plenty.

It's all a political show anyway, any question that they don't want to answer is just deflected.

So they're saying that cases are expected to peak this week, and that hospitalisations, deaths and the load on the intensive care system will peak in October. Basically we're just about to get into the worst of this wave.

Then in the same press conference, they're not going to bother turning up or being accountable to the media during the worst of this wave.

@discoball2000

Where has this notion come from that doctors and scientists generally are above the political and ideological fray and cannot be questioned or have their views balanced against other considerations?

Yes we should listen to The Science TM, we should also listen to the psychologists, the ethicists, the sociologists, the economists, the human rights experts, etc

Otherwise what’s the point in liberal democracy anymore - just hand the keys to the joint to the health department and be done with it.

To be honest I have to agree.....I've switched off as all I'm really interested in is the numbers and where. I've about had about enough of Gaslighting Gladys who's getting increasingly narky when asked tough questions.

There are plenty like you who have and enough and don't tune in anymore, which is understandable given the way they desperately try to avoid answering any questions, however it looks like there are a lot of people who do tune in.

ABC News and Sky news, i.e. both sides of the political divide, show a daily spike in viewers during the 11am briefings.

I agree with you there its been such a waste of time and with them gaslighting and avoiding questions majority of the time just puts the blood pressure and stress levels up.

I have stopped watching pressers because they're just spin and bullshit. BUT, the fact that this state is predicted to be entering the worst phase and the Gov have decided to run away from press conferences is infuriating. Zero accountability. It's spineless.

Saying "20 hundred cases" is too hard to sell.

As far as I'm concerned, Gladys can trot out every day until we are out of lockdown and say how many cases we have at 11am every day.

I don't get a day off from her lockdown, so she can front up to the media every day for the next month and a bit until we're out of lockdown. For almost $6,000 a week in salary, I'm sure she can do an hour new conference every day no sweat.

Don't need this daily presser , just publish the key numbers as anyone can look them up or hear them on the news. How long did people want them to go on for , the next ten years for whoever is Premier.

......or fronting ICAC......:D

The inquiry revealed last year that he had disclosed to Ms Berejiklian over several years that he was brokering deals for a network of business figures and that he had made at least one commission.

Ms Berejiklian did not report her conversations or relationship with Mr Maguire to ICAC or to Cabinet.

The ICAC inquiry last year revealed Ms Berejiklian maintained a secret relationship with the former Member for Wagga Wagga for at least five years, even after he was forced to resign from Parliament for corrupt conduct.

Several NSW Upper House politicians are pushing to release the documents to the public, claiming they reveal Ms Berejiklian could have breached the Act by failing to report Mr Maguire's conduct.

Your Labor mates Obeid and McDonald have been found guilty and to date Gladys has not , so it's Labor 2-0 in front.

New restrictions on prescribing ivermectin for COVID-19

The TGA have introduced additional restrictions on GP's prescribing Ivermectin. Now they are only allowed to prescribe it for TGA approved conditions. Before anyone accuses them of a coverup or censorship, the restrictions apply to GP's, however certain specialists such as infectious disease physicians are allowed to prescribe for unapproved indications.

Apparently one of the reasons for the change is because "there has been a 3-4-fold increased dispensing of ivermectin prescriptions in recent months, leading to national and local shortages for those who need the medicine for scabies and parasite infections. It is believed that this is due to recent prescribing and dispensing for unapproved uses, such as COVID-19."

I have had Pneumonia  hhhhmmmm lost count easily over 20 times maybe over 30 times... I get a special jab every three years for Pneumonia ... kinda makes me beyond scared of catching Cov...

Meaning I take social distancing and musk wearing very seriously....

Tomorrow, OMG I am not looking forward to tomorrow.... near my house back burning in the bush is being carried out.... happens every few years... you see opposite my house and my road / street is but a car width wide is a semi topical rain forest...

The air will be filled with smoke and that plays havoc with my lungs.... I sometimes struggle to breath when the smoke is thick...

So poor Middy is going to be stuck inside the house all day towels at the doors ... the burn is from 9:00 AM to 7:00PM... thinking of going to my office in Umina, and then to the beach but everything if under cov lockdown so you can't sit anywhere...

So my paradise of backing onto a park which fronts the water... and the front being in a semi tropical rain forest is turned into a prison ...

I may sound to be a tad over complaining like the day I went to work and got stuck behind a furniture truck, had to wait for a train at the rail crossing, at the light [yes only one] but that light turned red as I got there... and someone parked where I normally park and I had to walk hhhmmmm 15 meters to my front door... phone rings and I answer,,,client says Middy you seem unsettled.. I explained my horrible start to the day... so client say how long did it take to get to work and I said 12 minutes... client flipped and said you known I live in Emu Plains and I replied yes... and you know I work in Mossman and I said yes...  he said  rather loudly I left two home two hours ago and am still stuck in Parramatta.... and you are F.....ing complaining about 12 minutes... I tried to clam him down and say but when it normally only takes 7 minutes... 12 minutes seems along time...

So maybe I cry to much... but I hate that I will be stuck in the house all F..........ing day .... and yes its good for the summer... its not I don't appreciate the back burning its this time I can't escape it... so I will be stuck in my house all day... eerrrr I think I will go to the beach take some water and fruit ....

Not looking forward to tomorrow

Pneumonia is beyond terrifying and is why I am a bit more sensitive than usual to people talking rubbish about vax or other treatments. I have had the blue lights ambulance running red lights trip to hospital. How close to dying was I….not sure…few hours perhaps, touch and go for a little while certainly.

Hold your breath for 30 seconds plus. While you are holding your breath know that the next breath you take will bring about the worst agony you can imagine, like someone sticking a knife in your chest. Know that the next breath you take might not be enough, may not get enough air in your body, you are drowning on dry land in agony. Leaving your home in a hospital bed, 1 year old son and wife crying, not knowing if I am coming home…

NHS saved my life for sure. I was blue on arrival and diving in and out, I remember lights on the hospital corridor ceiling flicking by, but voices I couldn’t make out, then I was out and woke up a day later…..

I am beyond angry at the attitudes and opinions of some.

Get over it guys , she has the ultimate accountability at the next State election due in March 2023 when her or her Government , if she is not there ,  will voted in or out. NSW has fixed term elections so we can't have an accountability election every week.

pressers with hand picked journos who publish press releases as news are worse than useless.

you are 100% right marron - the lack of parliament sittings is the bigger concern. how sturdy is our democracy where a virus can shut it down indefinitely? Or is the shut down deliberate to stifle debate and scrutiny? Tough questions that go beyond party allegiances.

this is a good point. how will covid elections play out? Mcgowan has come off as a hero in WA and won by the landslide of all landslides. Eastern states where cases, restrictions and deaths have been higher could all get rolled at their next poll but the opposition in each state are in various degrees of shambles so who knows. i reckon scomo and friends will daily telegraph/cambridge analytica their way to a win at the next fed one despite all the scandals and **** ups - people just don't care and federal labor are such a wet newspaper (to steal from keating) that likely none of it will stick.
