Squad Development 2021

Recommended Posts

We should all look on the bright side. At this point, this is looking as though it will be the worst season starting squad we've had therefore expectation is low. The only way from here is up.

I can't believe Jackson Irvine is still a free agent. I thought the likes of Melbourne City would sign him up. even though I personally feel I he's way too expensive ($4.5m AUD!).

Fredy Guarin and Yohan Cabaye would be big signings...but I feel they have passed their prime. (especially Cabaye, I don't think he has been the same since leaving Crystal Palace).

Alright, I've had a look and here's my picks from the free agents list:

Martin Hasek (25) the kid can literally be placed anywhere in the midfield area which might be good if a player knocks an injury (hope not) during the season. ($2.2m AUD)

Javier Espinosa (28) seems like a team player that would provide good crosses and passes. His stats for assisted goals is amazing ($1.6m AUD)

Marko Vejinovic (30), he was the free kick specialist when he played at Vitesse 5 years ago. However,  last season was 8 goals in 24 games for 2nd tier Polish club Arka Gyndia so he can F*RKEN SHOOT!. Plus, He played majority of the season as a defensive midfielder (was played as an attacking midfielder at the start of the season) so could be a Schwegler 2.0 ($1.4m AUD)

Jordon Mutch (28), mentioned him before and he is linked to Carl Robinson as he signed him at Vancouver Whitecaps. When he was signed at Whitecaps, Mutch had 18 games and provided 2 goals and 3 assists. Personally, think he would be a perfect fit at the club ($1m AUD)

Babacar Sarr (29) looking at some of the compilation videos on him, he seems like really good with one on one defensive and would drop back as a centre back if any of them pushed too far forward. There was one video where he literally defended an open goal...twice. ($1m AUD)

Yann Boe-Kane (29) Defensive midfielder that's pretty decent at 1v1 defending and likes to do long passes to wingers ($775k AUD)

Katsumi Yusa (32) Had an impressive season with Indian club Chennai City last season (5 goals, 3 assists in 16 games), Apparently, he scored the fastest goal in the Indian Premier League as well  which is 13 seconds ($655k AUD)

Kieran Lee (32) I think someone mentioned him before, seems like a playmaker/team player, provided 5 assisted goals last season for Sheffield Wednesday. I read somewhere that some fans were sad to see him be released by the club but I think it's because he was with them since 2012. ($655k AUD)

I would assume he wants to stay in UK/Europe. Probably doesn't want to return home unless absolutely necessary. Probably hoping that a UK team picks up an injury and needs a replacement on the cheap.

Irvine is holding out for an overseas club. But I think come January if there isn't anything he may be open to an A-league club

Following in a long and proud history of fringe Socceroos coming to the a league at the last minute out of desperation

The Matt Sprinanovic move

As is traditional, hardly anyone will have seen Graham Dorrans play, have any idea who he is before his move to australia appeared on twitter, but if it isn't us he's coming to, we will melt down like we have missed out on Ronaldo.

So given I have no idea if the guy is any good may I be the first to blame Lederrer for being a tight arse in not signing him (assuming we haven't) or be the first to say he's rubbish and we should have gone for a better player (if we have signed him).

According to FIFA he has a rating of 70

So plenty of time to wildly speculate whether he is the Messiah or a dud

No idea who he is but he does't look too bad considering who he has played for throughout his career.

Feel like we need defenders and an attacker or two considering who we have at the moment.

If we do sign him I expect him it to be the last midfielder we sign (although i'll take Antonis once he gets released from Suwon).

Great signing, solid experience, great Pro. Exactly what we need. Club would be mad not to sign him.

Too old, coming from a dud league and won't handle our hard pitches. Waste of money.

*nb: One of the above to be deleted come March

Read into this what you like, but he spent about 4 years playing alongside Cox at West Brom.

He loves Cox? And is able to work well with Cox, he has an instinctive understanding of Cox

I mean im sure he wasn't total shite when he played in the PL. Although yes, we have seen players with decent pedigree come to the league and be total crap so will see, assuming he signs for us I guess.

GD has tested positive for covid.

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/dundee-fc/1711624/dundee-boss-james-mcpake-confirms-graham-dorrans-is-self-isolating-after-testing-positive-for-covid-19/

Will he have to be clear before flying to Oz? Then 14 days quarantine on arrival.
