  • Bridge Breaks Brisbane Borefest to give Wanderers 1-0 Win

    mack

Mark Bridge slotted home a penalty in the 80th minute to give the Western Sydney Wanderers a 1-0 win over Wynnum Wolves.

The opening match of the Wanderers pre-season camp in Queensland was a tight affair that was decided 10 minutes from time when a well worked play lead to a Wanderers penalty. Bridge stepped up to the spot and stroked it home for the eventual winner.

Unusually, the match was played over 3 periods, although it was for the usual length of 90 minutes. Kresinger and Polenz, two of the Wanderers foreign signings played in the match. Covic was not named in the line-up at all and Tyson took on the starting keeper role. Tarek Elrich returned to the lineup after his absence in the loss to Sydney United.

The Wanderers will be happy at having kept a clean sheet, and are now going to be looking forward to their match against Melbourne Heart in Lismore on Friday.

So Bridge scores again! Not bad going in the goalscoring stakes so far, even if it's against 2nd teir opposition.

Though they're meant to be focusing, so I hope Popa is running them through a boot camp to toughen them up and help the unit bond. Or maybe Popa digs the bikini babes too, mmmm bikini babes.

I noticed this the other day with the 'Ref helps SU to 2-1 win' - I figure if the general media is allowed to be bias against soccer, the dude who runs this website is allowed to report with bias as well haha.

If we are struggling for goals against state league teams we will be in for a long season. I cant wait to read the reports of the Heart match.

    • The guy is a professional footballer, even playing on a different side to his preferred, the concept of defending doesn’t change. He hardly looked like he was giving it a go. I think all too often we can be so lenient on mistakes made by players across the league. Let’s not forget that they are professionals, they get paid (a bloody decent amount) and should have the skillset required to atleast be able to do a job in a different to preferred position. It’s not like all age, where one week they are banging then in as a striker and then next they’ve got the gloves on as the regular keeper is away with the missus.
