  • Wanderers Triple Treat Defeats Bankstown Lions

    mack

Goals to Labinot Haliti, Jason Trifiro and Nicolas Olsen scored for the Western Sydney Wanderers in a relatively straightforward hit-out where nearly the entire team was substituted at half-time.

The class of the Wanderers was apparent in both halves, with Bankstown making very few chances against the solid Wanderers defence. Aaron Mooy once again showed his own personal class by providing Haliti with his goal-scoring chance via a nicely taken free kick. Mooy was a standout yet again.

Almost the entire team was subbed at half-time. Haliti stayed on the pitch, with Tarek Elrich and Kubi being the pick of the name players to come on for the second stanza. Kubi made several darting runs and clattered a Lions player towards the end of the match.

This was the final pre-season match for the Wanderers. Their next public appearance will be on Thursday October 4 at the Wanderers Season Launch.

Western Sydney start their inaugural A-League campaign against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 6th of October.

No more friendlies. No more second chances. This is the real deal now. The A-League is here and so are the Wanderers and we shall still be here in 200 years time.

Please excuse me if I've left this mortal coil and I'm watching Wanderers games from above, by that time.

    Shannon Cole was playing also.

Was that his first game back?

I think he played in another game that escapes me at this point in time (as a sub)

He got a bit of game time @ Lismore.

He came on as a sub with about 15 minutes to go against the Jets.

Don't know about last week in NZ.

    • https://wswanderersfc.com.au/news/letter-lyall-gorman/ I’ve just re-read Gorman’s love letter after the 2014 Brisbane GF. The board members may want to have a read as well at some stage. But don’t leave it too long.
    • Ah, plans in football, they work like clockwork, don't they? I recall the statement wsw released after the brisbane grand final. almost 10 years ago now. Grand plans, briefly translated into reality with an ACL win and a GF two years later. Since then we've heard about "plans" every year, yet what we got is a seemingly never ending demolition job. Last installment: in the decider against the smurfs Rudan allowed himself to be outcoached by Corrica, and sat motionless on the bench as the game slipped away. His assistant coaches from that night all left on their own accord. Rudan told us that he's done a lot of "reflecting" after that humiliating loss, and he arrived at conclusions. The result is that we are playing crap ball more often than not, and we even added another humiliating home defeat to the history books. No doubt there will be more reflecting, another round of assistant coaches, another group of disgruntled players leaving, followed by another season of incompetence barely disguised by eloquence. Once rudan is finished at wsw, or the club with him, he'll be unemployable in australia and nz. but there is always india or malaysia. mind you, whoever is going to sign him beyond this point in time has my sympathy.  There is no plan, just a pipe dream, with the pied piper from sydney united and his merry mates leading us down the rocky road to nowhere.
    • I'm hoping they announce a redevelopment of QSAC.....I've just put an investment property on the market within a stone's throw.
