This is what gets me. I'm not sure which player it was that was interviewed after the game, (I haven't watched the replay) but they said that "we need to keep our intensity of play up for 90 minutes". Babbel was saying that after the 4th or 5th round of the season. We are now in Round what, 19? Do these players just not get it? It's no wonder Babbel was frustrated and has made the comments he has. As for any criticism of the RBB and why they continue the 90 + minutes of support, I just won't hear anything of it. Imagine how **** it would have been last night without them creating the atmosphere and trying to lift the players as they did? If anything, they have been the only shining light of this miserable season( despite their diminishing numbers) beyond Lopar, Double Dot Muller and well, I can't think of much else. Furthermore, I have no plans to not renew my membership next season. I've invested too much blood into this club since its inception (far more than I ever did with that piece of shite from the east who didn't give a **** about me or the West). I've travelled to Brisbane, Adelaide and Allianz for Grand Finals, and an endless amount of away games interstate and almost every game in Gosford and Newcastle. I was in Parra Town Square for the ACL. I'm going no where. Yet, I'm as pissed off as anyone. I'm sick of this club taking us for granted, and I'll give you an example...….. I took an old school mate of mine to the game yesterday. Born and bred Westie. He has lived and worked in Charters Towers in QLD for the past 8 years, yet has followed us since our inception. He wanted to become a member (despite how shite we are), so we went to the membership tent before the game (just outside the main ticket office.) Main membership man, ready to take details, says his "laptop is down. I need to go and get a pen and paper, and I'll call you back on Monday") 2nd membership man (while we are waiting) talks shite, trying to engage our interest while waiting for 1st Membership man to return with a pen and paper to take our details. 10 minutes (!!) later, main membership man returns, with pen and paper. Like, what the ****? There is a membership tent set up outside the stadium, and they are resorting to taking details like this? Not only have we become a rabble on the field, but also off it. I'll be there on Friday vs Adelaide, to watch them tear us a new one. Well done Wanderers. You have royally ****ed what could have been our most amazing season yet. Successful season, big crowds, burgeoning membership numbers. Building the future. Oh well.

Rubbish. He’s totally sprouting off because he was garbage and while some things he said are true most of it is just random stuff that pops into his head, which is to be expected because that looks like the way he coached. He first said there was a lack of quality. Well one of the easiest things in football is stopping teams with no quality from scoring, something he couldn’t do. Then he came out and said Aussie players are ok technically and tactically but not physically. Lol if anything it’s the opposite. I’m not saying we should shoot the messenger but in this case we should definitely shoot the messenger because he’s talking out his arse. Yeah there’s issues with Australian football but he’s hardly the best man to diagnose them. Take everything he says with a grain of salt because his ability to understand and explain things is terrible. Maybe that’s why the teacher amongst us spotted his shortcoming very early. Tony Popovic won the ******* Champions League with Haliti, Golec etc. Didn’t hear him whingeing about the state of Australian football. Outside all of that, there’s the very big difference between his PR video and what he actually thinks. For someone who “tells it like it is” his video, in hindsight, was a stinking pile of PR tripe. Finally, mate you just got the boot because you couldn’t win a game. Have some respect for yourself and the league and shut the **** up.

Have to agree that the RBB really put in and were great last night. The visitors i had with me were all impressed with the 90min effort they put in, unlike some of the players. Great noise even with reduced numbers. Was a rare highlight on a depressingly familiar evening elsewhere on the pitch

Mate no matter we do, it seems like we can not win. When we stopped chanting and even boycotted couple of times at ANZ stadium, we were told that we only care about ourselves and should we not be there for the team, and had the lyrics 'win or lose, we will always follow you', thrown in our faces. Not necessarily on the forum but that other facebook group. I know its frustrating as ****, going from what we were to what we are. I am in two views, one people are all too happy to support an overseas mid table team or lower divisions yet won't show up to our games anymore, and the other view look at what the management has done, they dont deserve our efforts. Right now I am in the first view simply as I go more for the active support than the crap on the field. Our club management simply dont care, or if they do they dont show it. JT needs to go, he is useless and the club has gone backwards underneath him. The sad thing is that it will get worse next two weeks, cant see us beating adelaide and then we got esfc.

Granted the efforts within the RBB remain exemplary but naive to think the on field results haven't caused / exposed fissures within Active. There is no season left only two Derby's and a deserting member base of which some will drift to Macarthur Rams. A gypsy caravan third Melbourne team and a third Sydney west team are the final seeds of mediocrity planted by administrators thinking the performing pantomime of Active would continue like trained monkeys salivating at the word Derby.

JP says we have to take the positives out of the game and move forward to next week. Really! No s**t Sherlock. Who actually comes up with this crap? We've been saying the same things (players and management) for the past 4 years. I'm not quite sure what positives they are talking about but they don't add up to a hill o'beans. We get no insight, no problem solving just platitudes and hackneyed phrases.

This season’s performances have been pretty bad - and I got really disillusioned after Babbel left. I guess I felt we didn’t really have a plan and although Babbel had to go, the fact the players haven’t taken it as a rocket to get better isn’t great. I’m happy we aren’t doing these silly “Wanderers re-enact TV show entrances” anymore but when half of them are saying “we’ll get better” every week, but then nothing happens, are they really trying? Or are they ringing it in? I would much rather play FIFA 20 than watch the Wanderers at the moment. At least in FIFA 20, my Viktoria Koln team has charged up to fourth in the 3.Liga after being 17th earlier in the season. With 8 games to go, we are pushing for the playoff spot and only four points behind. Also, the manager is a lot better looking than JP - I have modelled her after Eugenie Bouchard

Agree with much of this but not the Ange thing. Sure Slater probably wanted his mate Arnold as Socceroos coach, but others like Bozza for instance just wanted a winning team. Ange brought the comments - they weren’t whispers - on himself when he asked for more football discussion and then when people criticised his nonsensical approach of using 3 at the back with a Barca style passing game, even though he only had Championship players, he spat the dummy. People were critical of Babbel and Ange because their approach and results sucked. Just like they were critical of Arnie when his Sydney team came 7th, or when he was a woeful Socceroos coach first time round. And at the moment people are so-so with him. Yeah Aussie coaches get more leeway but I don’t see too many people rushing to sign Kossie or Aloisi.

    WSW 18/19 & 19/20 Club Thread

I admire greatly the clubs dedication and commitment to getting the HQ, academy etc all up and running as well as optimising the return to Parramatta. I do feel that they are genuinely trying to build this club into something big. However, I think they’ve taken on too much at once without the appropriate staffing depth or resources which Aleague clubs typically don’t have. Seems the football department has been left on autopilot to see itself through this period in the hopes they could come back to it in a great position once everything else was finally sorted and carry on. Obviously things haven’t gone to plan on the field which has created panic because I don’t think anyone at the club expected this. The blind optimism that the new stadium would create some utopian season didn’t help this either. Doesn’t seem like there are many answers to our current problems which is concerning as it feels like the club is just chasing its tail.

Yep agree first 25 mins were good and then the Jets woke up after that we faded. Duke and Muller are exempt from what i say next because I thought they were brilliant. 2nd half was **** from the rest of them. No its not fitness as people have been sayings its blady passing from point A to point B and we failed miserably in this basic task. I almost felt sorry for Duke he ran is back side off won the ball multiple times passed it off to team mate only for them to immediately lose the ball. JP, Babbel doesn't matter who you put there if these dropkick so called professionals call that a decent 2nd 45mins football than they should look in the mirror. We weren't even going forward as a team we just stayed stationary in a defensive position so we wouldn't lose I mean come on.
  16. 2 points
I am far from an expert, but I don't feel it is lack of effort or fitness that is the teams biggest problem. The passing precision of most of our players is very poor, even by A League standards, which results in a lot of unnecessary running after stray balls and takes away decision time for the receiver of the pass. We need the opposition to be totally out of shape to launch a meaningful attack, so teams just let us have the ball, keep their shape and wait for the ever reliable stray pass. I feel that the team gets knackered because they have to do infinitely more running than the opposition to make anything happen. The Jets were much better at letting the ball do the work and were able to conserve their energy better throughout the match. The biggest problem is recruitment. I suspect that it is no coincidence that all our success came prior to the arrival of the new owners. Lederer is controlling the decision making for recruitment and is not doing a good job of it. Babbel was criticised for not having a game plan and doing simple passing drills at training. I fear he was correct in focussing on this at training, as these basic skills are lacking in much of our group. No game plan is going to be effective if the passing is 2nd rate.

He had plenty of criticisms that he wasn’t afraid to voice whilst still here and in a job. I don’t think he’s the sort of bloke to just run his mouth because he didn’t get his own way. You could label him a lot of things but deceitful is not one of them. He’s an honest man, possibly a bit too honest at times. This is exactly what I’m talking about though. An outsider makes a comment on Australian football and because it’s not a glowing endorsement, as a collective we get so defensive and try to put caveats on particular comments to downplay or disregard them. It’s putting our head in the sand. Just because his own record wasn’t great doesn’t mean his observations and opinion isn’t correct.

A currently unemployed coach with a media profile, and someone known for being a pretty straight shooter, speaks his mind when asked for an opinion by a journalist. Shocking, isn’t it. There’s no doubt an element of “it’s not my fault” to Babbel’s comments (the more he blames the league, the better he looks to future employers) and I don’t think the league is that bad (the Wanderers, in the other hand...), but at the same time what Babbel says does ring true to a certain extent. Maybe he’ll stop once he’s fully employed again, but until then he’s a lazy option for any journo wanting an easy quote on the league. The above is all based on the fact he’s either still travelling around Australia or is back in Germany but not yet employed in a football capacity.

So glad after years of efforts the A League has polished it's product by eradicating hooligans and flares and gang association Active groups in favour of family friendly atmosphere. So glad the A League isn't back page news for all the wrong reasons. So glad the club management collaborated to ensure the bad old days wouldn't return. Know Your Product. I even purchased a second membership in Active anticipating we would rock the A Listers. Newcastle made us look good till they woke up and now it's Give the Gaff more time again. When we and Victory are at the bottom then something is seriously amiss given the pulling power of the rest. I have no answer just unused paraphanalia from a washed out Derby.

Agree with a lot of good points here, accuracy of passing and control of ball, missing a No 8. I thought Duke covered more grass out there than the ground keeper's mower his work rate was amazing, Muller is class thank Christ we have him at least, Lopar is a superb professional. that first 15 mins was the best in 4 seasons i thought, Bruce was untouchable, skinned the back won a penalty, kept skinning the back got chopped and got him booked, thought this guy will get red carded by half time but what happened? Brucie drops back to the halfway line and the ball starts popping over to DG who did not have the same effect, why the hell did we stop attacking down the right hand side it was obviously working !!!!

There is simply no cohesion in the team, we are constantly misplacing and turning over possession in the midfield. Baccus and Schwegler aren't the type of players who can hold the ball andbring the ball forward, we are seriously lacking a no.8, an Aaron Mooy or an Andreau type player, someone who can link our midfield to attack, thats something that neither Schwegler or Baccus haven't been doing, they are both the same type of players.

I’m not arguing Babel’s sincerity, just his ability to give good insight. While I am all for listening to people’s opinions no matter who they are, with Babbel it’s so difficult becomes finding wisdom and insight amongst his ramblings is like trying to find a needle ina haystack. It’s not about putting our heads in the same Hughsey, people know Australian football isn’t perfect. It’s about being able to correctly diagnose the problems and find solutions. Why should we believe Babbel? If you want to get a handle on both the positives and negatives of Aussie football, surely better people to ask are Popa, Muscat, Ange, Merrick. People that have played/coached overseas and had success here. Regarding Babbel, as has been pointed out by many pundits since he left, his record is worse in the second year with all (most?) of his teams. That is the record of a POOR football coach. So why would we listen to a guy who can’t win ANYWHERE, as he sprouts off about why he couldn’t win here. And he’s talking as if the whole league is garbage. But he only had experience with one team, that was near bottom when he left. His experiences is us, not the league. He says Sydney were good, well what did you do to challenge them mate? You talk about Australian football’s attitude. One of the things we need to be able to do is not belittle ourselves to every foreign master. Imagine a coach going to the Premier League, getting fired because he was going to get relegated and then blaming it on the fact that Liverpool and Man City have too much money and there’s too many foreigners in the league. He’d be laughed out of town.

I'll be back Re: Active Support - if fans are still willing to stand and chant through this good on them. The club can't use lack of fan support as an excuse. Just remember, JP knows the story & how it works in Australia. JP can’t pull the stuff that Babbel does, he doesn’t have the credit in the bank. He plays the game just like most other Australian managers, give little away & don’t give any out extra ammunition that could be used against you. Man, you guys are harsh. We have had a guy playing league one & he comes to Australia. Different countries, different conditions, different style of football & of course he won’t be fit. Only playing 2 games in 4 weeks isn’t going to help. To aclimatise to Australian conditions he needs a preseason. This isn’t football manager where you transfer in the January window & finish off 90 minutes straight off the plane. It’s a different style of support something that you haven’t grown up with as in different cultures. In saying that, the work those RBB guys did yesterday was far beyond what we saw from many players yesterday. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but nothing will happen between now & the end of the season. Most managers come off contract in June & will have to wait till the end of the European season until we have any hope at securing a new overseas manager. I don’t think we have a good enough local manager to step into the void & secure immediate results. @hughsey was spot on, they’ve sacked Babbel without a plan. Relying on JP was lunacy especially with still so much of the season remaining. JP must have had quite an impression on Lederer if he was willing to give him the reigns. You then have to question who is making the footballing decisions & whether they should be making those decisions?

Bad formation and bad players for it. DG playing left full back. Opposition show him line, useless on left foot. Duke as a left striker. Show him the line, useless on left foot. Muller. Attacking mid. He's not used to having to dribble three players or do pin point passes. He's a left winger who cuts in, or right wing attacking the flank. The strikers, they pull back wide on defense, but stop tracking back after halfway. So midfielders slide, opening up gap in middle. Muller no idea where he should be. If Lederer thinks we have potential it's never coming out in this 32212. Go 4231. Drop McGowan, Duke and Yeboah. Do we have a left footed defender to play left back? Jamie Percevski maybe? Muller left wing. Kamau right wing. DG or Russell right fullback. Sullivan attacking mid. Cox up front. Stop ******* around at the back, get the ball forward quickly and shoot or get behind their defence. If we lose the ball drop back and park the bus.

I wonder if Monday Morning JPD sits all the players in a cinema room, and does a review of each players individual performance. As well as a full team discussion JPD says the team is fit , so what is the problem , motivation , short memory span, can only remember the game plan for 20 minutes, not paid enough so doesn't try to hard each employee needs to sit through a thorough review of his performance discuss the good and the bad things and how he can improve; Mr McGowan here is 2 examples of you passing to no one. can we please discuss this. Mr Jurman here is an example of you walking at such a slow pace to pick up a ball for a throw in does urgency mean anything to you ? please explain Mr Georgesvski here is an example of you showing a true lack of ability in being able to control a pass near the sideline and let the ball roll over the sideline please explain. Mr Ziegler here is an example of you passing the ball into the midfield to an opposition player , can you please explain. All as a team can you please explain what happened after 20 minutes of high press did we decided that was enough for the day and became lazy , 1 by 1 each player to give his version of why. What Really Grinds My Gears 5

This came about intitally because Bankwest and the Club decided that with Western Sydney having the highest Indigenous population in Australia they wanted to ensure that there was recognition that Parramatta was a special place for Indigenous people, they got a couple of Local Indigenous people involved and wanted an Acknowledgement of Country for the Stadium. The idea behind an Acknowledgement of Country (different to a Welcome to Country which can usually be given by a local Elder only) is to continue to recognise and acknowledge the local Indigneous people of that area. Acknowledge that they still exist, acknowldge that even though the land is a different shape now, there is still that connection to Land and it hasnt died. In traditional times you could only take resources off another Indigenous people's land if you were welcome on it by the people themselves, so this is to respect that tradition. In the same way we mark and march ANZAC Day even though we all know what happened we don't want it to be forgotten or not acknowledged but we want to show respect to those that made it through and live to tell the tale to remind us of things that happened that we don't want to repeat. I understand that at the football you may see this as counterproductive and 'tokenistic' but it reality is is 20 seconds of your life when they are not belting out the latest crap dance track, showing oblivious folk on their phones during oblivious cam or promoting another dodgy sponsor. It is 20 seconds that to you may be a divisive confronting pain in the ass but that is becasue you are taking it that way, it is not meant to be a reminder of the division, or as you put it the babies who were taken away (what about the white babies???) but rather it should be inclusive to everyone, it is a WELCOME, an acknowledgement, it is a mark of respect, to the away supporters, teams and sponsors (whom hear it only once not every home game like you do) it demonstrates that Wanderers are an inclusinve Club and to those of us who have heard it all before it is a time for refelction and a recognition that we are privaledged to live in this great country and a mark of respect for those who came before us and accept they are still here. So next time it comes up, recognise it for what it is a welcome, just like a double kiss on both cheeks from your nonna at the front door, it is about how lucky we are, accept that Indigenous people are the original owners of this land and never gave it away but are also happy to have you here to share in this great country and then it will be an inclusive experience rather than a divisive one for you, or just go get another beer or take a piss instead when it comes up and ignore it if that makes you feel better, up to you.

We didn’t play well in the first 20-30 mins at all. We were simply made to look good because Newcastle seemed to have some sort of dumb rule that every defender had to touch the ball before they’d try and get out of their box and upfield. I turned to my old man just after we scored our penalty and said that as soon as Newcastle stop pissing around with it, it’ll be a completely different game. Sure enough they did and to make matters worse we even helped them by stopping our high press and sitting back (which for me also came back to a fitness issue cause we were zapped already). If we truly played well during that initial spell then we should’ve been up by 3 within the first 15 mins but as usual we either wasted the opportunities or couldn’t capitalise on them. The state of this football club right now is dire. We sacked our manager without even a faint idea of a suitable replacement and now have continued to play the exact same way. If Babel was sitting at home watching us tonight, you’d forgive him for wondering why he got the flick. I’d even argue that watching that rubbish tonight, we’ve gotten worse. I sat up in the stands tonight behind the goal with my family as my mates couldn’t make it so I gave the RBB a miss. Being up so high you get a perfect view of our formation structure. To be perfectly honest, there wasn’t any for large parts of the game. It was like watching little kids chase a ball from one side to the other doing their own thing. WSW used to be ruthless in its pursuit of success and could grind out wins with discipline and hard work. These days it’s just a ******* shitshow.

Geez what a bunch of half-arsed, half baked players we had tonight. There were exceptions. Thought Duke worked his backside off, Muller was industrious and Kamau and Baccus tried, as did Lopar, although never a good look to be beaten near post. But seriously as soon as Ziegler touched the ball I was nervous. We got the wrong McGowan, Jurman looks like he’s hoping to go anywhere else but here. I love Georgievski but he was second rate tonight. Etc etc. Cox looked slow and lumbering. Don’t get me started on Yeboahs little cameo. We are a hard team to love at times.
