    One!

He was shocking against City in the FFA cup too

Yeah true. I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit jaded but I feel like he persists with players for FAR longer than we tend to expect.

Been posted that apparently the coach doesn't expect the team to be at it's best anytime soon but will be at it's best in the second half of the season which has been the past experience.

Have a suggestion ,start our preseason 3 months earlier than the other teams then we might

    start level.

Only downside 3 extra preseason forum months. Maybe the early start could be kept secret.

Or they could have gone to specsavers, pay Andreu and Alberto what they are now earning in Cyprus and the 2nd Greek division (good luck with getting paid), and cut out the "let's do another total rebuilt just because we can" exercise. I very much doubt that the Smurfs would have mopped the floor with us as they did had Andreu and Alberto been on the pitch with a full pre season under the belt.

    But what do I know??

    Don't expect too many changes.

Apart from the forced one with Borda, the only other changes will be clisby for hammill, and if the marquee is fit, he'll come in for lustica , but likely he is still a week or 2 off.

If Hamill starts 2-2 draw, If Hamill doesn't start 2-0 to Wanderers.

Yeah yeah. Takes me back to the cold afternoon in the Lawn Bar, when people were telling me how we were going to smash the Smurfs...

Remember the days when players used to play themselves into fitness?  When quality players who were 'not quite ready' started a game and lasted as long as they could before being subbed?..... Those were the days

You do realise that 3 months prior to preseason we were still competing in season 2015/16?

Was tongue in cheek stuff Alexander - but in a serious way. This recurring problem needs fixing.

    What problem?

If I follow your argument, we start slow and finish strong. Good strategy I reckon.

Strategy should be start strong and finish strong. We haven't finished strong we lost 3 grand finals

and blew the Premiers Plate late in last years finish.

Finishing top two after what you call a slow start, that's a strong finish.

Yeah , maybe my expectations are too high and I should adjust them.

You can only peak for so long before you start dropping off. Sydney FC usually peak at the beginning of the season then have a big drop towards the middle. This means they actually end up with less points overall. If you want us to peak early fair enough just don't expect us to be there all season!

    Link to comment

If you divide the season into thirds (9 games each) and look at what proportion of our total points were picked up in each third it shows that in two of our four seasons as a club we picked up the largest proportion in the first third (season 2 and last season). In both of those seasons we picked up the lowest proportion of points in the last third of the season.

Seasons 1 and 3 were the opposite, with the lowest proportion of points gained in the first third and the most in the last third. This is to be expected as season 1 was the first 9 games of the clubs existence and we went on the ridiculous record win streak in the last third. In season 3 it was a combination of having the ACL final in Riyadh and CWC in Morocco early in the season and the fact that only earning 10 out of 27 points in the last third of the season was still an improvement on the 8 out of a possible 54 we picked up prior.

The stats don't seem to back up the theory that we always have a strong start and come good at the end of the season.

    Link to comment

A win in round 1 is three points a win in the last few rounds is still only three points.

This peaking at the end of season thing is a finals thing. If you want to finish top (which I do) then it doesn't really matter when you win long as you win.

In terms of making the finals,From memory our decent start in Season 2 meant we could rest players during ACL period and absorb a bit of a form drop and still make the top 2.

Adelaide caught up last year but didn't have an ACL to deal with (getting knocked out in qualifier), I don't fancy is playing catch up and competing in ACL.

In short this slow start as we are pacing ourselves is nonsense. Let's just win some games.

Especially given our next three games are

A also rebuilding Adelaide (who just signed Tayler Reagan)

    Jets at home

    And seabogans away

Can't we just stop with this fast start slow finish or slow start fast finish and just win all 27* games regular then all post season.  Simple!

*Except this year because we blew big time on the opener

Yes, maybe. Because this appears to have been the bone of contention over the months.

    • We've handled your physical games before, and we were still capable of beating your team as we have some before. Our defence should have done better but we had so many clear cut chances that both Nunez and Salah wasted them for their own selfish reasons.
    • Exactly, Marko needs to "cosplay" as Bielsa squat down and smoke ciggies
    • Sorry but you know I have to put the laugh icon on that don't you? I thought Osman's and Owen's assessment on it was pretty fair. You create chances but you don't finish em, and your midfield isn't up for the physical ugly stuff, Everton managed to turn the game into the physical stuff that suits us. The other thing is DCL bullied your defence absolutely monstered them. Trent Alexander Arnold is a **** defender, he can hit the odd Hollywood ball for the highlights clips but he is a really poor defender. Badly at fault both goals, first one where the f was he it was WSW esque he was way out of position. 2nd one ok he's unlikely to win a header against DCL but at least get up and make a challenge (maybe you pressure him to put it off target). He just stood there. Arguably St Virgil shouldn't have let himself get stuck behind Tarkovski. Finally St Virgil post match, having a whinge about 1230 kickoffs, was funny. Lid it's Wednesday night go buy an alarm clock. I think I might grow a disc beard in tribute the Dyche Man (sorry Shaun ft ever doubting you, you tactical genius you) Anyone noticed that since the Chelsea loss Dyche has dropped the white junior bank clerk shirt look and gone for the trackie manager look. We have one both games. Rudna take note
