The positive if we lose is we don't give the FFA what they want. It will only band aid over all the cracks of the league and the way it is run if they get their big 60,000 preliminary final crowd (there is no way it will be at Allianz).

    This is our season.

Out of the ACL. Disappointing in the FFA Cup. Horrendous displacement to the hell hole that is SOP.

ESFC have been brilliant. No question.

We beat Brisbane and we get the chance to beat the best team statistically in A League history. We get another crack at the Holy Grail in domestic football.

Lose in Suncorp and this season is a disaster. Win and like the Phoenix we rise. The Smurfs will be filling their pants.

    Our season. This Friday.

Right here. Right now. This is football.

    We are Western Sydney

Doing well in the post season cup would give the notion of a good season undeserved oxygen.

36 points. 23 points won against the four teams behind us. Beaten the five teams ahead of us only twice in 15 games. Horrid.

This has been a p1ss weak WSW side. At least the official talk about being a "big and ambitious club" that is in the business of "winning titles" has stopped, and thank goodness for that.

true but since we punted borda after the city red card debacle we have taken 22 points from 13 games including 8 points from the teams above us. That form throughout the season would have put us 3rd - less than a win behind victory.

the team during those games has featured corny, antonis, baccus and (yes reluctantly I will acknowledge his contribution) the keeper. we are not a free flowing team by any means but we are a MUCH, MUCH harder to break down and beat.

    also - welcome back fcb!

Yep, good analysis. The second derby was when we turned a corner, going to the home of the competitions stand out side and not conceding. Since then we have really only put in one bad performance in the league, the home loss to CCM. Yeah the attack is still mediocre, but our defensive improvement means we are every chance of edging out results in knockout matches.

No arguments from me. We've been sold the longest pre season ever, it feels like the club p1ssed the first half of the season in the wind. That's why we are now facing an away elimination game in Brisbane.

    Not good enough for me.

Shows how close this will be. And we haven't fielded our best side against them yet. Put Antonis, Santa and Nico in that last starting lineup and it's a different story.

The thing that concerns me is that, if we manage to get a lead, at home they never think they are beaten. They will keep coming and coming, and while our defence is much better than earlier in the season, there still hasn't been many times we've really held on under sustained pressure. Even when we beat the smurfs, they should have had a penalty. Struggling to think of any other time we've faced real pressure.

If we do get through it though, will be a good warm up for the smurfs.

usually its the top 4 competing in the semis.

    We can break that trend.

Brisbane away will be tough though. They are never easy up there.

But anything can happen in a KO game

So, third time meeting Brisbane in a finals series match... oh boy.

And with 7 or 8 referees:

1 central referee, 2 assistant referees, one fourth official, 2 additional assistant referees and 1 or 2 VARs.

    This.

Played them in every finals series we've been in.

We truly are the Arsenal of the A-League. But we have a better record than Arsenal do over Bayern ;)

We should always be a top 4 club. We should always have at least one home final every season, minimum.

Think we've had this discussion before. Pretty hard to achieve. MV and Brisbane Roar would be the most consistent clubs in the history of the league, and tend to do it more often than not. Now we have SFC and Melbourne City to contend with.

The way things are, I don't think the club is capable of doing this. We would need more funds coming from elsewhere as the other bigger clubs tend to spend more than us. In the long run it will be hard to compete with this.

What bigger clubs? We have 20k members the largest (and best) juniors area. Only victory can mount a case to be bigger.

Don't confuse bigger with people pumping silly money into club (City)

This clubs ambition should be at least top 4 every year

I suppose I am talking in financial terms. Victory, SFC and City all spend more than us. Brisbane are a very dogged competitor. Will be hard to compete with this. Sure we are big membership wise, but as we saw in the crowds this season, it means nothing if you don't do well.

We have to attract good players with money. This will keep the team near the top and the turnstiles clicking. It will be very easy for us to fall behind if we get complacent. Remember Perth Glory were a huge club back 15-20 years ago in the NSL days. Look at them now.

The club has to work hard to remain big. Not just believe in our own destiny.

    True dat

The custodians of this club need to ensure that we do compete, and if that means putting money in then that's what needs to happen.

The potential of this club is enormous, far bigger than East sydney. the skimping on this squad has cost us big time.
