I think this season we did well in getting Antonis and Janjetovic. It helped us replace rubbish with some players who are decent players at A-league level. So we were prepared to spend. The fact we couldn't find a striker was bemusing to say the least. Lucky Santa was there to save us.

A squad with solid, consistent and mentally strong A-league level players, some game changing and above A-league level standard foreigners mixed in with a handful of young, enthusiastic and determined juniors. Then we will be top 4 every year.

    Sounds easy, right?

Yep, I still don't understand how/why we got our foreign players so badly wrong this year, when we still had a marquee spot to use.

If we couldn't convince Olympiacos to keep paying half of Nico's wages we wouldn't even have him using the 1 marquee spot we did use (because we had to use him as marquee because of his overall wages not ours).

According to the Courier Mail, this will be Thomas Broich's last game at Suncorp.

Not surprising, he is getting on and just doesn't justify marquee wages anymore. Still, he will go down as one of the greats of the league.

If Broich can command big wages elsewhere, good luck to him. You would hope that if he doesn't want big money, Roar could accommodate him.

But also understand them not hanging on to him purely for nostalgia. Would expect another A-league club would be willing to offer him a gig if he were keen.

He apparently hasn't got Australian citizenship despite being here 7 years and supposedly wanting to get it late last year and having been eligible since 2014.

Doesn't sound as though he'll be remaining here indefinitely....sadly....

I hope he comes back in the the future.

A truly decent person, from what I've seen of him...and a real asset for the A League.

I'll be very sorry to see him play his last game here.   :(

"Brisbane is and will always be such an important part of my life, it really turned life around for me and I'll feel just forever grateful for what I've experienced here," Broich said.

    OK...so, I'm not shocked.

It would have be a surprise if you didn't make your usual comment!

You, as has been pointed out before, are nothing if not consistent, Mr Doff.

Now....where's your mean comment about McKay??  :P

So who would you pick for our penalty takers?

    Antonis

    Baccus

    Butters

    Santa

No-one else fills me with any confidence.

I'm getting moist watching the highlights from last year. Obviously the game itself was immense, but seeing the crowd reminds me of what a crazy night it was. Easily the most intense atmosphere I've ever been at. There was such a genuine belief as soon as we got one back, and I really think the crowd played a big part in that comeback. Hopefully we have enough people on Friday to make some sort of impact.

Before games I always look at the other team and think 'who scares me?'...looking at Roar it's Holman, Broich, McLaren and to a lesser extent Oar.

I think we have more dangerous players. If I was a Roar fan I'd be worried about Baccus, Antonis, Butters, Nico & Santa.

The odds are definitely stacked against us, but I feel we've got some good big game players now. We're gonna need luck for sure, but I think we match up well against them. And in the two games there this season, we've drawn one and would have drawn the other if not for a brain fade. Could easily have won the second too, Santa was inches away from scoring just before they did.

We can only hope that we don't get Gillett or Beath as the central referee dince both are Queenslanders or Griffiths-Jones who seems to hate us Edited by Paul01

Given that they gave us a Queenslander in a grand final in Brisbane against Brisbane, I'm not very confident. Then again, surely the FFA want us in the semis...they probably won't sell out Allianz if it's Brisbane.

How about they give it the Victorian Shaun Evans the other full-time referee?

Would have hoped for ANZ, but we can still outnumber them at Allianz if we make it through.

Sydney will learn of their semi-final opponents this weekend, with a Sydney derby on the cards should the Western Sydney Wanderers overcome Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

In that event, Sydney's preference is to host the showdown at their home ground of Allianz Stadium, instead of the much larger ANZ Stadium.

Football Federation Australia is yet to make a final decision on a venue, though A-League chief Greg O'Rourke on Tuesday said it was leaning towards granting Sydney's wish and selling out the 45,500-capacity Allianz, rather than risk empty seats at the 83,500-capacity ANZ.
