Would have hoped for ANZ, but we can still outnumber them at Allianz if we make it through.

Sydney will learn of their semi-final opponents this weekend, with a Sydney derby on the cards should the Western Sydney Wanderers overcome Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

In that event, Sydney's preference is to host the showdown at their home ground of Allianz Stadium, instead of the much larger ANZ Stadium.

Football Federation Australia is yet to make a final decision on a venue, though A-League chief Greg O'Rourke on Tuesday said it was leaning towards granting Sydney's wish and selling out the 45,500-capacity Allianz, rather than risk empty seats at the 83,500-capacity ANZ.

Leaning mean Allianz if its the Roar

Since the FFA needs bonus money it will be ANZ if its us.

And especially with the money on offer from ANZ to stage events there and Foxtel are pulling the strings

The FFA will push for the semi (if that eventuates) at ANZ, but I think the clubs have far more control over the semi final venues, when compared with the final itself--which would be at ANZ as that is what the FFA have prebooked already. I'd rather it at Allianz (the semi). Makes the most sense. Sydney FC earned the right to host it at their ground (regardless of Arnold's previous comments about ANZ), and it's a 'true' derby atmosphere there.

Roar wont play Sydney in a semi final. If we play Sydney at Allianz it will be a total shitfight regarding tickets with unhappy campers on both sides and the serious risk of Wanderers fans infiltrating 'home' areas creating a 'security risk' which the FFA might want to avoid.

I know Roar can't meet Sydney FC in a semi, but I didn't mention them ;) The semi for Sydney FC, regardless of opposition will be at Allianz. A final, if they make it, will be at ANZ.

This one is going to extra time I think, expecting a very close game.

Brisbane out for revenge for last years semi final and a possible derby semi final for us should we win, massive game, so wish I was going.

I can't do Sydney dery semi, I'm gonna need to be sedated.

    Yeah me too

Haha as soon as I saw the post above I was gonna post this song. Love it. I distinctly remember being on a road trip to Byron one year and getting out at a servo with this blasting. Great riff.

We should do a song based on this!

Doesn't sound as though he'll be remaining here indefinitely....sadly....

I hope he comes back in the the future.

A truly decent person, from what I've seen of him...and a real asset for the A League.

I'll be very sorry to see him play his last game here.   :(

His nose will still be here long after he's left the country! :P

    :shok:  :shok:  :shok:

    OK...so, I'm not shocked.

It would have be a surprise if you didn't make your usual comment!

You, as has been pointed out before, are nothing if not consistent, Mr Doff.

Now....where's your mean comment about McKay??  :P

    McWho?

So who would you pick for our penalty takers?

    Antonis

    Baccus

    Butters

    Santa

No-one else fills me with any confidence.

Lol can you imagine a penna shoot out and the crucial kick to either stay in it or win going to our dead ball officinardo Dimas lol I think that would be the end of me more than likely....

I am sure Dimas would still try passing the penna backwards...

Okay, word from the club is that the bus ain't happening sadly. bugger

Shame that. Not too many seats sold in the away section last time I looked as well.

    IN!!

    Boom!!

Driving. Can't leave until luisenrique finishes work at 6:30am Friday. Pushing it!

Have booked an airbnb only 8 minutes walk from Suncorp, so that should help us get there on time. Might have to crack open a flavoured coca-cola for the last little leg of the trip...

Tunes, the open road, Wanderers game, maybe stop at a beach on the way home. Yeeeeeeeaaaaahhh

We have a spare spot if anyone is keen (pm me). Only a Honda hatch, not the most spacious, but hey, we'll get there. Probably.

    Link to comment

Yeah we have to make good time on the way there, but we have plenty of time on the way back. I doubt we'll end up doing the whole leg back on Saturday, might just cruise, stop somewhere, finish the trip off Sunday. Gonna play it by ear.

Three grand final defeats, a relatively dismal season and recent Suncorp history might have all taken their toll. Also if we get through, there's potentially the non-trivial cost of a semi-final derby followed by a Melbourne or Perth grand final (with Melbourne most likely and practically doable for a good number of our fan base). However I think the bottom line is there's not a great deal of optimism going into this one.

Not to mention that most of the ones going to Japan (including myself) will have to give it a miss.

I think the Friday game has as much to do with it as anything.
