The FFA should really consider scrapping the 5pm kick off once amateur season has commenced for people, it'd be a few weeks max. It's too early.

FFA don't care about you or me or those amateur footballers.....

When would they fit all the games in? Realistically they will always want at least 2 matches on a Saturday which means one in the late afternoon and one in the evening.

The biggest problem is the season going far longer than it should be (in terms of time, not rounds). Without the Asian Cup next year this shouldn't be as big an issue. In Season One, we were playing our GF against the Mariners about now.

Well there's no perfect solution but It's only for 2 or 3 weeks, surely they could move it to a second Friday night game (try and give Perth a game) or a third Sunday arvo game. It just seems contradictory to me when the FFA want people playing football as well as watching and attending the A-League. I don't know about other associations but in Granville there are a growing number of clubs, particularly in the hills who are being forced to start playing a 5pm time slot in order to fit all their teams on. A bit of consideration wouldn't have gone astray.

And that's the thing  -  surely the people who DO play football, are (or at least should be) one of the main target audiences of the A-League.

To disadvantage those people, isn't a good thing at all.

    Surely there's another solution?  Maybe?

Would perhaps be interesting to see how we'd go crowd-wise with Thursday night or Monday night matches, for A-League matches?  Hmmmm.  But that then brings the issue of teams potentially playing with a four-day turn around.

The ARU are good in that regard. Whenever the Wallabies have a game on, no club rugby is played that day. I'm not saying that we should can all games for a standard league match but adopting their consideration and thought they have would be nice. Aren't we trying to increase crowds as best we can?

I think it's reasonable to expect people to skip a training session to attend a mid week game but I think it's unrealistic to expect people to either skip or leave early from their actual game of a weekend. For a semi final yes but definitely not a regular round game.

It'd be hard to keep everyone happy. The Blacktown comp has always played the senior teams on Sundays so having an extra Sunday game at the expense of the Saturday afternoon would just shift the problem to another district.

I imagine the game scheduling would be negotiated by foxtel/SBS/FFA with television ratings in mind and very little else

I think what people are saying is that they need to accomodate amateur footballers better. ATt first I thought they had scrapped the 5pm kickoffs because they haven't had them for a few weeks now. Even if they did 630 & 830 games on a Saturday or Sunday to accomodate amateur games being played on Saturdays & Sunday's would be a great help. Or the suggestion to play Adelaide or Perth games late on a Friday or Saturday night to fit in the extra fixtures.

With club rugby, do they have late games? I doubt they have too many fixtures at 5pm & even if there were 3pm games most of the wallabies games are at 730 so there is often no issues getting to the matches (2.5 hours to get there)

On the season going longer than it should, don't forget when we have more teams and more fixtures we should expect our season to go deeper into the winter season. It is also has been a good experience to see how tv ratings have been & will be affected by the start of the AFL/LEAGUE/UNION season this year as well as how is the best way to fit aleague matches into the amateur season.

Ahhhhh yes - now this raises (and resolves?!) another issue with the scheduling of matches.

Perth & Adelaide matches being played in the afternoon, in 40+ degree weather (yeah yeah, I know other teams play in that heat too) -  when surely they could (AND SHOULD) be played at the later timeslot.

And if it's all to do with the TV ratings (which of course it is, because apparently player welfare isn't important) - surely they could have the Perth matches as an appetiser for the early EPL matches!

    DARN WEDDINGS! =(

I think I'll wear a red and black tie..

    Same here - but I don't have a red & black tie!!

Gutted - this is the first Wanderers competition match in NSW that I will miss since they started.

At least my seats have gone to a good home for the day.

Painful being at the match in Adelaide and getting done over 2-1 in injury time. Hopefully this Saturday we get our revenge
