@Wanderingbeersclub Does this sounds like our facebook moans?
This is the cause of our complete inability to play through the middle too. We play with so much width that if Baccus picks up the ball deep, he has 2 options down the middle - Dorrans or Troisi. Neither of them is looking for space and even if they do they will be double teamed by a mid and a CB. The other option is cox comes screaming back into midfield but he receives the ball at double pace (ball moving forward, cox moving backwards). You can't kill a ball dead, simultaneously turn and look for the ONLY available player, the advanced striker. The wing backs are all the way at the back line waiting to receive the ball so they aren't an option. Take a look back at Duke's efforts last season on Kayo, the amount of times he came screaming back into the midfield to advance the ball was insane. Of course both he and cox have pretty average first touch so it goes flying, though Duke started to work out he could flick the ball to the wing backs with about a 50% success rate.
This system needs genuine top flight wingbacks to make it work and those kind of players just don't exist in our little dust bowl.
A 4231 at least offers you multiple options for advancing the ball, you can shift your wingers vertically or horizontally depending on the space. Not to mention anyone using traditional wingers against our 352 is going to completely dick us on the counter (reference last night's complete disaster)
