Was at BCFC Premier League game last weekend. FYI: This match against WSWFC has a $5 entry fee. I'll be there

    Someone can see $$$$.

According to the Wanderers press release admittance is FREE.

Western Sydney Wanderers FC are excited to announce the club’s first ever pre-season matches, kicking off next Wednesday at in St Marys.

Fans are urged to get their banners ready and wear their black and red hoops when Western Sydney Wanderers FC take on Nepean FC in the Club’s first ever match next Wednesday, July 25, kicking off at 7:30pm at Cook Park, St Marys.

On August 8 Wanderers FC face Blacktown City in what’s sure to be a keenly contested encounter at Lilly Homes Stadium, Blacktown.

“It is very exciting to be able to play our first ever matches as Western Sydney Wanderers and to play them in areas the team grew from is very important,†Wanderers FC head coach Tony Popovic said.

“We are still busy in the process of trailing and signing players and these matches will be a great chance to test out potential players in our system.

“While it is still very early in our development the team is coming together nicely and these matches will be a step in the right direction for us as a club.â€

Admission to both matches is free.

Last week’s open training session saw a host of fans make their way down to meet the players and coaching staff at the team’s current training base at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The two free matches were Nepean and Spartans.

    Mack,

You may not recall, however, the Nepean and Blacktown City matches were the 1st two matches announced, as evidenced by the above press release. The Spartans game was only announced last week.

Both matches were publicized as free entry events and as such, Wanderers management could feel agrieved that Blacktown City, having seen the crowds being drawn by these trial games, now wan't to charge an entry fee.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss about the $5, just the principal of a club seeking to make a five figure profit from a friendly match.

Hopefully, Blacktown City do the right thing and donate the takings to charity.

BTW Does anyone know if the B.C. Coach Mark Crittenden is the same fella who is / was the head greenkeeper at Cumberland Golf Course.

There doesn't look like that place has anywhere near enough space for parking if even a small crowd shows up :/

Train is an extremely easy 5 min walk. Plenty of parking at station and Seven Hills Shops nearby.

which side do we have to walk? i know the side with the parking well but not the other side

You need to go to the side with the multi-storey car park, straight up the Prospect Highway and the ground is on the left.

So is next weeks free? I'm sure they will accept my Media Pass anyway. I'm so stingy even if the entry price is $5.

My bet is on Monday you will announce you'll go to the game the following week.

    Any other takers?

    Link to comment

$5 charge should be dropped. Full stop. This goes against the principles set for these games i.e. showcasing the Wanderers to the local communities. FFA should step in.

However, GOD, you can't enter the ground from Prospect Highway. Turn left at Lucas Road, and then turn right into Quinn Avenue. The entrance is at the end of Quinn Avenue. When you go through the gates, turn right for Lily's Restaurant, or left if you are going straight to the stadium.

There is parking after you turn right at the gates. This takes you over a small decorative bridge and into a reasonable sized parking area. People also park on the grass off the driveway that leads to Lily's Restaurant. After that it is street parking - no time limits, no fees for parking.

Keep an eye out for no 9 for Blacktown if he's plays Ryuji Miyazawa.

The club almost went down the tube a few years back so I don't begrudge them charging $5 admission.

how about some gate revenue for the local grass roots clubs?

or is $5 too much to ask for some people.

    please give me a break...

Yes Taurus, Mark (Critto) Crittenden is that same fella at Cumberland GC. He has been there for a long time, just as he was at Greystanes FC and is now well entrenched with the Demons. I've known him a long time! How's your golf game ?

i have no problem with a $5 entry fee, as long as my money is going to the right place(not the board members pockets and to the club and grassroots football)

I used to spend all my spare time at Cumberland when John Ruggiero was the pro.

I played in plenty of schoolboy tournaments as a lad with the likes of Elkington, O'Malley, P. Jones etc.

No one is complaining about the entry fee, it equates to one less pre game schooner.

I simply raised my concerns in regard to what appears to be a case of false / misleading advertising.

BTW when I played there in the late 1970's BC were able to pay U/15's 10k a year. How the mighty have fallen.

for me to get to BWE home games

2.50 with bus to get there, then 15 bucks entry fee, then $5 donation then 2.50 back home

some people need to wake up !

Blacktown City has no $$$ AT ALL and are in debt....

Would make a good news story if this game could help prop up the team financially. Giving back to the grassroots in a very real and measurable way.

would also make good money from the canteen

2-3k crowd would be very good for Blacktown and bring in some much needed $$

    • And if we’re losing 1-0 at 60 minutes, does he get game time?
    • We expect our coaches to have integrity and be honest. Criticising a coach for what he said is not criticising the fact he’s being “honest”. Someone talking doesn’t automatically mean it’s true, it doesn’t mean it’s definitely right. Talking without tact is often pointless, and this is where Marko sometimes lands.  Older generations love throwing the baby out with the bath water, then claim the younger more progressive generations are soft. This has happened every generation prior. Brosque has his view, and it sounds like he had been singled out when younger, but as an avid football consumer for the past 25+ years I don’t recall it being a frequent occurrence in the media. A lot changed after Beckham was pilloried post to post by media for the red card against Simeone and Argentina. **** started changing after that, coaches weren’t airing grievances in the media anywhere near as often. Over the past 10 years, where social media abuse has ramped up, where players now have an online presence and a semi-direct link to any “fan”(/possible asshole), there has been an ever decreasing amount of openly negative comments directed at named players by their coach/manager. That is what decent managers do, Marko proves he doesn’t fall into that category for multiple reasons.
