Blacktown City aren't in financial trouble anymore, not since they were bought out by the guy who owns Lily Homes. They then started running the club, now a restaurant, properly and stopped actually losing money through it!!

There doesn't look like that place has anywhere near enough space for parking if even a small crowd shows up :/

 

Train is an extremely easy 5 min walk. Plenty of parking at station and Seven Hills Shops nearby.

It's on the Northern (carpark) side of the railway line. Follow the Prospect Hwy, turn left into Lucas Rd then right into Quinn Ave.

I used to spend all my spare time at Cumberland when John Ruggiero was the pro.

I played in plenty of schoolboy tournaments as a lad with the likes of Elkington, O'Malley, P. Jones etc.

$5 charge should be dropped. Full stop. This goes against the principles set for these games i.e. showcasing the Wanderers to the local communities. FFA should step in.

Sure it's showcasing the Wanderers but why should state league clubs risk injuring their players in the middle of their season for a meaningless friendly? $5 is **** all, and if someone isn't going to pay $5 for entry; then what makes u think they will pay more money to watch em play when the season starts?

One of the things the club has been founded on is the idea that it needs to engage with the community, represent the areas football heritage... what better way to do that than to allow clubs in the area to make a little on the side? Goodwill everywhere.

When Sydney FC played the state league sides, there was always an entry fee, $10 i think, but all the proceeds went to charity. which is great news.

i got no problem, and neither should anyone else if state league clubs can make a bit of coin on these matches, some clubs dont get 5k through the gates all year, so to do it in one match, why not take advantage of it.

That's not an official statement, I know certain games were played behind closed doors at that time and the smurfs had to go to the UAE and then play the Aust U20's to get games etc as the NSWPL sides were not exactly in the friendliest moods. Manly was just an odd one out. I doubt there were charges for games played by A league sides behind closed doors which included blacktown city. Infact even for official games they were giving away tickets left right and centre through the papers and other means. One paper alone gave away 6000 tickets on its own.

Look, I think we're all in agreeance about FC's failure to engage the community - we're all here after all.

But you started by saying FC didn't play NSWPL sides - but they did, even if it was just the once before the season proper - that can't be in dispute. Not saying that's good engagement, but it still happened. Then you wanted proof that thre was an entry fee - sorry, but that's about as good as we are going to get unless you know an FC trainspotter type with a collection of flyers etc.

Not quite sure what the argument is beyond that.... we shouldn't be charging (or allowing a charge) for entry to these games because.... well I just can't follow it tbh.

It's the failure of the governing body. I mean here is the new club that is possibly the most important thing to the league and if West Sydney succeeds, get crowds etc it will lead to a bigger TV deal, improve the viability of the league, lead to more money funneling down to the NSWPL clubs and probably lead to the creation of the FFA cup etc. But instead we have individuals trying to milk it stupidly already and it is the fault of the FFA. Because if we had a proper governing body then they would be like look, GTFO => we are looking to develop this club and make it as big as possible. You all have a collective responsibility in supporting us in achieving this because guess what? this will be good for you as well. Instead we have a bunch of imbecile sloths, which is why it took so long for West Sydney to be established in the first place.

I'll admit it does look opportunistic by Blacktown. But in the end... so what? Wanderers doesn't just represent its members and fans alone, it represents football in the western suburbs. That's it's platform. If it's to do that succesfully then it needs to ensure that it maintains a good relationship with football clubs at all levels in the west - that both entities get something out of each other. The NSWPL clubs get a bit of publicity, get a bit of cash from an increased gate - and Wanderers gets a hit-out and a look at some players they might want, playing on both sides.

And yes it would appear they played them and money was charged. Where that money went, who knows? As llama said, they weren't a premier league side back then anyway.

Watch the attendance drop for this game!! I hope I'm wrong, but I think a lot of people won't go if they have to pay an entry fee, even if it's only $5. Remember most people aren't as fanatical about the club as we are.

This club was meant to be based on uniting old clubs and fans, and giving back to the community, when its actually time to give back to the clubs, people chuck a stink about it lol…

Bad move, We are trying to get people interested and involved in th game, untill we have a huge supporter base and whislt we are currently building the clubs image. All Trial matches should be free. Gold coin donation at the most. There will be plenty of familes that wont take a bunch of kids because of the 5$ fee.
