Fox commentators been talking up Silva big time in their pre-season review.  Whaddya all reckon?

Fox commentators talk up anyone that's made it onto a sokkah pitch in the A-League who at one point was under 20 years of age.

They literally run through the entire roster of every club in this country and at least once a season call a kid 'wunderkind', 'prodigy', 'tyro', 'promising' etc etc.

Remember how only a few weeks back they made Ramy Najjine into some youthfil combo of Messi, Pele, di Stefano, Cruyff & Best all on the basis of him missing about 7 shots on goal? The likes of Slater et al have the same insight into the next generation as Barnaby Joyce has at a Newton rave party.

Pundits have been talking up de Silva since he came into the league. And so far, he's never really lived up to the hype. I'd give him 5-10 rounds in season before determining whether he's finally reached his potential yet or not.

Sorry, I meant Silvera, who came up through Wanderers Youth System.  Would he be getting a run in seniors now a-la Tass, Adam and co. if he had stuck around?

I think Giev saw the Perkatis incident and recommended the red card in our FFA Cup game.

It looks like a no DH policy for match officials in our game from the appointment officials.

@ManfredSchaefer, I must say you sound a little cranky this week. :)

I know the Bavarian has gone missing....possibly forever, hence, so have your game day pork knuckles. I also realize right wing media shits you to tears. I know most Fox Sports commentators grind your gears. But geez man, we are back at our beloved home after 3 infuriating years at that Soulless dump and also the oversized shitty ANZ in a precinct that provided as much entertainment as attending the Brownlow Medal evening would. It was dire.

We are back at Parra. We are back at Eat street. We are back at Wanderland. And, it wouldn't be the same at Wanderland without rain being forecast. We have safe standing, a police force that might now be kind to us, a march beckoning. The RBB are talking to the club and the cops in a positive light. We have an LAC who is a football fan (apparently) and you'll be eating/drinking at the Royal Oak pre-match on a regular basis.

All the moons are aligning. If FCB's predictions for the season are even remotely close, we have a lot to be excited about.

It's time to cheer up buddy.

PS. This is my glass half full post for the day. :)

Optimism is for kids & those that haven't lived :ninja:.

Until I see a run of big wins at home fuelled on a combo of meat, beer & an absence of bully boy fascist cops I'm more than happy to deal out the bad attitude.

    Disagree mate.

Alireza won't take s*** from him.

If we don't s*** Alireza all will be well.

If Matt Simon was playing, he'd be sent off after 40 minutes. Therefore, the Sea-bogans may keep 11 on the field unless one of their defenders has a brain-f***.

    Mmm. Ok.

I don't understand your pessimism. I personally just prefer to have a more positive, excited outlook on life. I don't care whether we go on a run of wins or the bully boy fascist cops return. Of course, the run of wins would be nice, but the fascist style cops don't bother me anymore.

I've excitedly waited for tomorrow night for 3 years. I have promised Wanderboy Jnr that this date will be one we couldn't ever miss, and we won't be. I've given up going to a 40 year school reunion on Saturday so as not to let Jnr down on my promise I made to him 3 years ago.

I'm looking forward to Saturday night with a sense of optimism and excitement. That doesn't make me a kid, nor does it suggest that I haven't lived.

Not sure. The majority of youth players who've left WSW haven't gone on to (consistently) brighter things.

CCM have been poaching WSW youth ever since we entered the comp. And all the western Sydney players that didn't play for ESFC ended up at CCM before WSW anyway (Ryan, Ibini etc. and guys like Jedinak - not youth obviously).

The career path of a Wanderer youth under Popa & Gombau):

    1. Get some game time in a cameo or as a sub for an injured player
    2. Get story on WSW web site about "How I loved the red & black since I was an embryo in the RBB'
    3. Get praise from Slater, Harper et al but for some reason is ignored by the national team coach
    4. Starts to think about a career o/s or other offers
    5. Puts on a bit of weight over the off-season
    6. Gets put into the naughty corner at training
    7. Loses out a regular spot in the squad
    8. Gets picked up by Mariners
    9. Gets dropped by Mariners
    10. Attempts to reboot career at Sydney United
    11. Gets snotted or sent off in a FFA Cup match against his old club.

CCM will struggle from next season as the new Macarthur franchise will be the principal poacher !!

Nah Martin....they'll have a readily accessible pool of super-keen young players who right now are training their hearts out at Sydney United, Camden Tigers & Macarthur Rams, gagging to don the Black & Gold for 2020/21.

Just seeing the Duke on the list somehow reassures me.

Who knows...I'd like to think that those that are fittest & have runs on the board in training & pre-season games get first start rights. Babbel is not the kind of coach to let people die wondering so sticking Adam in up front makes sense, ditto playing Duke & Yeboah. Meier & Ziegler need a little more patience due to lack of game prep & to be honest both need to be on song for as much of the season possible. Committing them to a start in game one is not an imperative.

    Meier will start. 110%

Not a good injury record, hope he's not another injury prone youngster who never kicks on.

    Quote

Despite all this dedication to his craft, Trew's first season with the Wanderers has been up and down, largely due to a number of injuries.

They include a snapped ankle ligament (10 weeks), minor ankle ligament tear (three weeks) and corked quadricep (two weeks).

"I've had a handful of injuries, some of which have proven to be major setbacks for the season," said the former Southern Branch star.

"Although no injury is easy to deal with, having gone through the motions of coming back from the ACL injury, I was definitely able to see the 'light at the end of the tunnel' easier than I would have been able to otherwise.

"After going through a broken ankle at 14 and an ACL injury at 17, the injuries I sustained this year have been less mentally challenging."
