My take on the whole Derby matter - we're so lucky we're in a league that for a 10-team comp has some incredible rivalries.

WSW/MV games also have an added edge in Melbourne purely for the off-field battles. Nothing like this exists against City, even though they're a bigger rival.

Hard to explain the dynamic to someone that hasn't attended a game.

    Easy.

Melb Victory v Melb City = Man United v Man City respectively. (Most successful club with rich history vs plastic oil miners)

WSW v ESFC = Liverpool v Everton respectively. (More successful on the continental stage, and soon domestic stage vs poor younger cousin that's ways there abouts)

WSW v Victory = Liverpool v Man Unitef

Melbourne victory has double the fans of esfc who actually show up Sydney fc has a big old empty

Manson and some grey haired grounds keep named Arnold

Not much of a match up....

Uhhhhgg.... Its all just a recycled pissing contest thats quite cringeworthy.

    A) We all know and feel, that the sydney derby is the most important match.

    B) We and the smurfs will always taunt eachother by saying that the Melbourne game is more important blah blah blah. its not. But i will say the FC v Victory game has more of a rivalry then we do thats for sure at this stage.

    C) Victory are a huuuge club yes, but the only rivalry thus far is between the fans in which we created by talking Victory up so much that we want to be bigger and better. So its pretty much a match within the terraces, but one where its like "respect, you guys are big and loud, were gonna be bigger and louder then you!" Truth is we are yet to have an important match with them, there hasnt even been a catalyst during a match to spark hatred yet, and theres little to no of that natural "fire in the belly" clash about it. All it is, is melbourne victory are great, we want to hate you and be better.

This match in particular is 1st v 2nd. Thats probably the only meaningful thing yet to date.

Actually the only thing i remember from a victory clash is when Archie came over to us in the Corner Post lads and danced like a douche. Otherwise its the same ole hatred that every club shares of Victory.

id appreciate if you didnt speak for everyone because you are wrong. in terms of active support this is our biggest rivalry imo. if you are in the stands you may not agree but from everyone rbb member i have spoken to we all know this is our biggest game.

Im an rbb member. My girldfriend sits in white and black where i am dragged to occasionally haha. And offcourse i speak for myself.

Why is it the biggest game IYO?

because we are the two best in terms of support. this rivalry is the biggest in the stands, esfc is a different type of rivalry. it is a matter of opion on witch you see as the more important but to me this is the biggest. im not sure if you have ever been to an ways days against victory but give it a go then you will understand why this is such a rivarly. no game in this comp brings the terrace together like victory away

No i get you man. But the rivalry is like i said. Its all in the stands and its because Victory is what we consider the closest and biggest active to us. Been to plenty Victory away games. And yes its amazing, but also Victory are incredible with their 2 terraces echoing eachother, and you throw us in its just a huge noisy cauldron. Its a war in the terraces of who can sing louder. But i dont consider that a rivalry on par with esfc. If Victory suddenly became cellar dwellers, with dwindelling support its not much of a rivalry to people anymore.

The Derby is pure hatred. And not just from us in the RBB.

Its even harder to compare our derby with the melbourne one. Its coming down to numbers which are able to make voice. Cant help its a little unfair just because City fans have lower numbers doesnt mean there 500 or so actives dont sing their heart out.

So in the end i feel like were mistaking the word "rivalry" for incredible experiences in a way. I would here by say offcourse when you visit victory with 10000 or so actives and us in an incredible intimate stadium, mix in ussually top 6 clashes there incredible experiences on par with the derby. But not as big a rivalry.

i think we will keep going around in circles mate as i said it is really a matter of opinion witch you see as bigger. i get were you are comming from but personally and as an active fan i see victory as the more important fixture.

p.s i think this argument is had every time a wsw v victory game thread is opened lollllllllllll

Haha! pretty good. I would say in years to come it would mirror this more. Liverpool and United games are a rivalry on the pitch too. Not quite there yet for us.

The derby is the derby, nothing will beat that.

Against East Sydney there is a feeling of pure hatred and dislike for everything about the club, the area, and what it stands for.

But Victory has a different feeling to it,

Whilst with Victory there's a sense of respect in which you know that their club is the biggest in the country and is the benchmark for football in Australia.

However any chance to win a pissing war with them and to assert dominance over the mexicans should be taken with great pride,

I have to agree with this post. The only thing I will add is the ridiculous assertion by SFC fans that they are somehow a bigger club than Victory. They are simply deluded if they think that. You do have to give props and respect to Victory in what they have achieved. They are the biggest club but we have the aspiration to topple them. We aren't there yet of course but that's who we are gunning for.

Everyone will have their opinion on which game is bigger. They are both big games.

Victory away season 1 was still the best game I have been to. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

You try telling a real Man City fan that they are the plastic team, when they spent their entire life supporting the "poor cousin" while Man U are followed by fans who their own captain said were more interested in eating prawn sandwiches than making noise, that's if they even live in Europe never mind Manchester!

Comparing our derbies to the England ones - or any other games - diminishes our games. We have our own rivalries for our own reason. For example, the merseyside derby has many families who have split allegiances - some members of the family support Liverpool, some support Everton. I highly doubt that is going to happen in Sydney!

    So

    Um

There's a on game tomorrow. Anyone want to talk about it?

Going to be a big test for our fullbacks. FBK on one side & Barbaroutsis will make it a game where our fullbacks wneed to be wary of when to not bomb forward. Tbh, I think the performances of the fullbacks of both teams will be a huge factor in determining who takes the points. We too are strong out wide.

Interested to see how NTS goes vs Berisha. Alberto beside him will hopefully have a big impact, as Berisha has had NTS's number in a few matches.

Dimas vs Finkler should be a good battle too. Andreu's composure on the ball will also be tested. As I expect that Victory will be on a rampant press when without the ball.

Most of all I'm looking forward to arguably the best 2 teams in the competition going at each other. Neither will be taking a backward step

And the forecast isn't letting us down either. 29 wi chance of rain in the evening. Added bonus of 30km winds. Sweet

Would that "chance of rain" be a chance of a cyclone with battle axes falling out of the sky?

Is that footage from one of last season's home games??

Theres only one accurate weather forecast for a home game

Some news from our end - Valeri out for another week with this mystery illness.

    Almost certainly our starting side:

    Vukovic

    Geria - Delpierre - Broxham - Georgievski

    Bozanic - Mahazi - Finkler

    FBK - Berisha - Barbarouses

    Let's go!

The Victory doesn't stand a chance as I will once again be wearing my lucky trousers.

I was going to say unwashed of course but then I realised if you wear them to our home games they would get a nice drenching organically anyway!

FYI for anyone that's taking the Western line tomorrow. There's track work, so be sure leave a little earlier as buses will replace trains between St Mary's, Richmond & Granville.

May be sold out but we all know members wont all turn up.

Being in the news all week will help - maybe the FFA will work out if you advertise the game on the main FTA channels people will turn up.

That's a sold out members area that usually never goes on sale to the public, so I just checked it and there is only 3 tickets in there for sale so I guess it must be a members buy back..?

Already gets crowded in there with way to many ppl who don't have tickets for that area..
