I did the whole metro thing today. A nice sunny day out on my own.
Drove to Tallawong. Parked. Queued up with the throngs. Caught the Metro to Chatswood, and then the snail train double decker to Wynyard. Then spent a few hours around Darling Harbour and the newly built Darling Quarter (where the old Entertainment Centre was. Gee how that area has changed!! I had a sensational lunch in a little indoor food court in Chinatown that I never even knew existed until I stumbled across it today. Packed to the hilt, with probably 12-15 little Asian food outlets of all types. A really buzzing place.
The Metro is ******* impressive. Fast, smooth and efficient. Sure there were some teething problems today, but over 100 000 people used it on its first day. The govt and those at north west metro handled everything so well. Huge crowds at Chatswood were dispersed quickly upon each train arrival.
Don't believe any of the negative shite on social media platforms from today.
It's an impressive system and will be a huge bonus to us in the Hills once it is up and fully operational (about 3-6 months).
When I was a youngster at school, if an older lad leaving school said they had secured an apprenticeship with British Steel it was like a golden ticket! So competitive, they often went to the nephew of a bloke who worked there , or you knew someone who would get you in the door. An apprenticeship with them would be a step towards being set up for life.
Mothers would talk about it like some talk about their kids becoming doctors, teachers or going to University 'whats your lad doing when he leaves school', 'oh didn't I tell you, he is starting with British Steel next week', said in a very proud satisfied way lol
That is how it was...sad that has gone and will never return. These days it is getting to work for some bully of a boss in a call centre if your lucky.
