I hope we get Faghani again. Want to see him telling Baumjohann to get off the floor every time he crumbles at the slightest touch.

I hope we get either of our ACL final referees

Faghani officiated our 1-0 win over Al Hilal

And the legendary Nishimura waved away three penalty shouts from them in the return leg

Besides, KGJ is retired now isn’t he? He’s always a VAR now

And that's the problem. As the on field ref we'd get him every few weeks. Now we get him virtually every week.

It seems Grant has been playing well for them, particularly in attack apparently, what this guy has got away with forever is red cards, always the cynical yellow (not enough in my opinion) always had the moaning Brosque in the ref's ear protecting him I feel, but he is definitely due a red on the balance of fouls against and getting away with it, when he's wound up he's a liability got to put this guy under pressure I feel, he's been lucky to date with cards.

Lets not hope for too many reds if we are basing it on karma. DG is about to get hit with the Karma freight train if the timetable is on time this weekend

I'm interested to see the structure Babbel goes with this weekend. Playing 3/5 atb means we will be pitting DG against Retre which will mean we get a lot of attacking balls into the box for AMFG and the Duke of the West. The flip side is Wilmering is going to have his work cut out for him against Grant, though Grant is going to have to run all day because Sydney also plays without a natural winger.

41212, like we used against Victory, is going to be a more defensive unit as Mcgowan and Jurman will play closer together and Schwegler will have 2 CMs helping him shut down the attack. There's more goals in the 5212 but so far Mcgowan has looked pretty open when he has to defend the extra space left by the RWB pushing high.

I'm also concerned Sullivan is going to be out of his depth against Brattan and Oniel, who are by far the best DM pairing we have faced this season/preseason.

Meier, Adam and Duke against Wilkinson and R Mcgowan is a match up heavily in our favour. Wilkinson is not the defender he used to be and is going to struggle containing Adam or Yeboah coming on with 20 minutes to go.

Biggest take away from last week is we CANNOT start slow. That victory outfit couldn't hit the side of a barn from inside the barn, but Sydney will not be so kind. We cant ship 2 goals in the first 15 minutes then expect a come back.

Prediction: 2-1 win. Another Meier bomb and a Duke header

That's the perception that has emerged over the years: Arnie moaning on the side line, and the likes of Brosque, Zullo, Grant moaning on the pitch. On the other end of the spectrum you have Saba red carded for hitting the ball in S3, Sotirio's goal disallowed in S4, Zullo's handball ignored in S5, Carney hitting Herd before milking a penalty in S6, Roly's goal not given in S7, and MB red carded in the process.

With three of the four chief moaners missing, with the Lowys not being in charge of football any longer, and them having sold their ESFC shares, a more balanced picture might emerge.

So with the safe standing area have they simply replaced 1200 or so seats with the same number of standing places? Surely they can use a 1.5 weighting at least for a standing area. ie 1200 seats = 1800 standing places? Otherwise it is always going to look sparse at the fringes despite being a sellout.

I think the safe standing rules are 1 standing space for 1 seat...with everyone standing at their alloted space..except that will never happen for us as will alway push to middle. I expect it to look sparse again...

How many bays did ESFC sell as the official away allocation and in which area?

Not clear from looking at Ticketek..

The ref could make a big difference. We get the Iranian, we win.

One of the standard weak, netball style, aleague refs and it's anyone's game (probably theirs). Obviously KGJ is worth a goal or two to them. Our boys will need to keep their cool and not get frustrated.

Faghani and King I am fine with, King backs himself with the correct calls and doesn't let Smurfs players influence his decisions like they tried to do in the Adelaide game

Kurt Ams, don't put him in big games, I think he is by far the worse ref in the A-League, cannot make the correct decisions and his calls are inconsistent.

KGJ and Jonathan Barreiro both seem to be in the Smurfs payroll, they always have always favoured calls towards the smurfs and you don't see them calling many fouls against the smurfs or even carding them.

They sold their 2000 allocation very quickly, it is down in the south west corner. A mate of mine is a Smurf and bought 5 GA tickets (I believe he is still down near the away end) as tickets were not available in the active/away section.

I'd be anticipating around 5k smurfs with most of them down at the Southern end of the stadium

It’s a new era as we know in so many ways most of these players don’t have the mental scares of years of esfc dominance

the European boys would have played in many games as such So let’s see how they handle their first big derby here

as mentioned above with brosque gone the whining bitch is no longer around to influence - I don’t really care what happens as long as we absolutely put in

if we lose id expect a red card because someone kick Baum in the side of the head and then it’s worth it 😂

to be honest can can see maybe 0-0 game babbel won’t want to concede but I hope we win and jurman scores the winner off a redmayne fumble

R1 Smurfs got Alex King. Strain got a red card for a DOGSO.

R1 We got Faghani. No red card awarded.

R2 Smurfs got Barriero. Cacace got a red card for Serious Foul Play.

R3 we got Alex King. No red card shown.

Referees not appointed to a game yet

Adam Fielding, Ben Abraham, Kate Jacewicz, Adam Kersey, Stephen Lucas.

Beath didn't centre last round nor Kurt Ams. Faghani has been given the FTA in each round.

Yes, you could see it against Victory last week.  When we didn't behave like our opponents expected a Wanderers team to, I sensed they were psychologically rattled.

    I think it will be a 1 - 1 draw actually.

I can deff see ESFC getting a goal..prob a spawny one.

With both getting off to 2 game winning starts and with us being more evenly matched this season a  draw seems likely.

Either could knick it 2 - 1, will be a close game..not expecting much in it at all...

They will definitely press us like their first two games and we can't push our 2 fullbacks up in the first 20minutes, 4 at the back to negotiate the press and i think Sulivan can produce again but yeah be up against it but with bac/sweg behind him he could be fine. I can see us scoring late as they definitely run out of puff in both games so far.

    Tipping 3-2 win

Smurf FC are the favorites. Arnie whipped them into shape, and they won titles on the back of that. No one can deny that.

AMFG, Schwegler, Georgievski, Jurman, McGowan, Lopar won't be rattled by the occasion, neither will Duke and Yeboah. They all have seen bigger games. Sullivan has played overseas, and Baccus can help rectify the Gombau-sponsored "we-will-win-the-derby" 0-5 experience. The young ones will be fine, they've experienced the Leeds and VIC crowd. Besides, we will carry them.

Let the coaching group sort out the tactics.

A defeat would show that there is more work to be done. A draw would be evidence that we've closed the gap to the Smurfs. A win would change the status quo in Sydney. Whatever the outcome, the game will be something else.

The gap has closed..but i am not too sure we have jumped head just yet...

    I am cautiously optimistic....

Going by there first two games, they did not impress me at all and are not the same team they were over the past few seasons (tbh recruitment was pretty poor for them this season). Also before this season started they lost some back room staff like John Crawley and a few others that were pretty important to them which will be affecting them somewhat.

I believe the boys can get this done if we play like we did against the Vuck and i'm sure the boys will be fired up to tear them a new one!

Some revenge would be good and they get pumped 6-0 :cheeky: *nek minute they turn the camera to ABJ crying in the change rooms* though happy to win this one 1-0

It is now sold out with the exception of the odd single seat here and there. Depending on the corporate turnout it could go close to the stadium record.

We could have easily broken the record if authorities were prepared to maximise the capacity of the safe standing area and sell extra tickets.

I refuse to believe that all 3.5k corporates have been sold. I remember Parramatta had a few sellouts & ended up with 28k

Can’t see those on the fourth official panel and those who are new to the league to get there first match. Guessing they’ll pick someone with experience of a big occasion.

Safe standing is still in its infancy and some areas still dead set against it. The Boro' chairman for example said he will install safe standing over his dead body, I am surprised we got it now in BankWest to be honest. It will be monitored to death and for years and all kinds of reports done before they sell extra tickets on top of 1 standing space per 1 seat space. Won't happen for 10 years, if ever.

The authorities are actually more likely to close it down unless people start standing 1 per allocated space. It wouldn't surprise me.

I am glad I am of the generation that grew up with old style terraces, yes they were dangerous, but **** they were bloody good fun!

And that's the thing. Safe standing is exactly that! Safe!!!

Not like the old style terracing that you experienced, and that I also have at certain English grounds during my travels.

It is absolutely stupid that extra tickets cannot be sold in the safe standing area. I think that eventually, and maybe even sooner rather than later, that the club will actually be able to get approval for an increase in capacity at Bankwest for this area. It makes no sense for them to be paying for the install and removal of the barriers, only to see half of it empty on every game day when indeed, another 1000 or so tickets could be sold, and every one of those extra patrons would be standing safely.

    There's a barrier every ******* row, for ****s sake.

It will be an absolute embarrassment to see the active area half empty on Saturday night.

You know that, I know that but I can't ever see the day that approval will be given to sell more standing tickets than what there would be seat spaces, even if the club wanted to it would be very difficult to get approval for.
