An early red card to Wanderers Captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley put his team on the backfoot and they were subsequently soundly beaten 2-0 by a rampant Adelaide United.

The key moments coming mere minutes apart, Topor's first yellow coming in the 14th minute after getting caught high up the park only to chop down Marcelo Carrusca after the Reds playmaker had clearly beaten him. 130 seconds later he was off, given his marching orders after handling the ball in an effort to prevent Bruce Djite from getting in behind the Wanderers defence.

Western Sydney resisted the quick short passing of Adelaide for another 20 minutes before the seemingly inevitable breakthrough came. After a challenge from ersatz fullback Jaushua Sotirio against winger Craig Goodwin saw the ball land fortunately at the fleet of the Reds flyer, Goodwin laid the ball off to Sergio Cirio who easily got around Brendan Hamill before cutting back to Carrusca who sidefooted past the helpless Ante Covic.

The game was over as a contest on 54 minutes. Fabio Ferreira worked a one-two with Carrusca, neatly returning the ball to Ferreira with a dink over the static Wanderers defence, the finish a chip into the side netting with Covic once again left stranded.

So complete was the Adelaide domination of the match that Western Sydney had all of two chances on the ball. The first a snapshot from Tomi Juric that went wide, the second a through ball to Nikita Rukavytsya that saw him in on goal but incorrectly called back for an 'offside' despite two Adelaide defenders playing him on.

The statistics bore out this domination, Adelaide having 74% of the possession, the Wanderers managing just one shot, off target to their opponents 26, Adelaide strung together 675 passes with an 89% accuracy to Western Sydney's woeful 136 at only 62% accuracy, 46 crosses to 2, 13 corners to 0.

It was a truly abysmal performance even considering the Wanderers went down to 10 men, and questions will be asked of the mental state of captain Topor-Stanley to allow two schoolboy errors to have occurred in such a short space of time. Adelaide could easily have scored 3, 4 or even more goals had their finishing matched their build-up but in the end they didn't even need that second goal to claim all three points. A massive trip to Morocco looms against the CONCACAF champions Cruz Azul and if they are not to be embarrassed on the world stage Tony Popovic will need to drastically improve his side in just a few short days.

The Wanderers next match is against Cruz Azul in the FIFA Club World Cup on the 13th of December 2014 in Rabat, Morocco. Sydney kick-off time is Sunday 14th of December at 6:30am AEDT.

Hey i m korea right now and i don't believe this rumour but people say Tomi Juric is being targeted by few korean teams

have you guys heard anything about this? Or is this just another wishful thinking by their fans

i heard(or imagined) rumours about the J-league targeting him but i am unsure about the K-league

    also welcome to the forum

Yes the rumours about Tomi leavimg in January are pretty fierce right now but he has made his intentions pretty clear that he wants to wait to have a shot in Europe first. He didn't even consider 1 or 2 offers with Asian clubs in the mid year transfer window because he wanted to get some consistency with play time and look for ACL success with WSW so Asia wasn't on his radar. Not sure whether things would have changed, but I doubt it.

I would say that he is playing well right now but not doing enough to really get anyone excited in Europe about his potential. Much of this might be down to the team not giving him the opportunities in front of goal but at the moment WSW aren't playing well and the limited goals we are scoring are coming through Juric!

    Thanks a lot

Just started following WSW after the ACL so i was just curious about Juric because k league teams lack strikers and rumor here in korea says he is being targeted by korean teams

Yes we are in a bit of a slump.

Keep in mind that we have replaced about 7 or 8 players. They are slowly gelling together and this takes time.

The most important thing for me though is the mental state of the players. We have taken on  a hell of a lot more games this season. Not only does this physically take a toll on the players but also mentally.

I know Tony has an excellent team of backroom staff to take care of our players physically but ........... I wonder if Tony has or if he has thought of hiring a sports psychologist to work on their confidence?

We are on a pretty bad losing streak and the body language of a few players says a lot.

Maybe that's something that might help.

With the amount of games being played I think rotation can be a good thing.

I do believe our ball control needs to improve dramatically as we lose a lot of possession that we really shouldn't be losing (ball control).

Having said all this, I think we will make the 6 and get on a winning streak that will deliver us the grandfinal.

Remember the Tortoise and the Hare?

Yeah, but it now pretty clear that it is not just form that is the issue here and players taking time gelling together. Right now this is running much deeper than that with trust issues between the club and players.

What is being discussed on the pay issue thread has the potential to totally destroy the rest of this season if it is allowed to. After the CWC there needs to be clear the air meetings between players and club.

Toxic atmosphere are the club these days.

Hi new member, please don't encourage violence or else people might think you're a troll looking to try and cause trouble on here.

I know this because I do it on other team's forums.

Hey man. Sorry if my emotions got the better of me and I gave off a bad message but Adl guys that followed us home were asking for trouble. I tried to pull a few of our boys back who were getting rowdy away when tension starting esclating to avoid things like this from happening. Dont get me wrong. Defintly dont want to be promoting violence. Especially at away games.

I feel sorry for anyone that had to buy new flight tickets after getting in trouble with the law. That would suck having to buy a new one on short notice as they can be p expensive.

Will concur the general behaviour of the cops at the ground appeared to be that they were not to do their job, ie - put measures in place to avoid some of the clashes that occurred but to wait till they did and then use heavy handed tactics on wsw fans. Everything that happened on the day was avoidable I have no doubt of. The numbers were not that large that couldn't be contained.

At the same time as travelling fans we are representing the club and need to remember that home fans are always going to bait you, especially as we are often a highlight to their otherwise boring existence in places like Adelaide

Learn from Adelaide and tell your boys to be smarter next time :-)

Keep your energy for supporting the team not punching on with wanker away fans and cops!

Well done on making the trip

I know what you mean. It was like the Adl boys were aware of how lenient the police would be from past experiences with allowing them to be up in away supporter’s faces and decided to take advantage of it by being v agitating after the game had ended. For your average fan it can be intimating seeing numerous casual fans stroll up to the away section trying to show that they want to start something bad. A few ppl expressed their concern to me. It was the main reason why I stayed behind with every one so that if **** kicked off I would be there to have your guys backs. I didn’t want to be around 5/0. But I was cause I felt an obligation to stand with everyone in case anything went down I would be there if it popped off.

Year I agree with you, it was avoidable if coppas put an effort into separating the trouble makers, but that’s the way they chose to deal with it and it was the wsw fans that had to strive through the bias that we were given by dodging stick from the cops and home fans. It was surprising as well because when Adl did stroll up to where the cops were standing in the away section, they walked off w/o being asked to leave. And that carried on after the game. When **** like this does happen, home or away it effects everyone because there a lot more restrictions put in place because of the actions from a minority of ppl but what can you do.

Honestly thought there would be a lot more people like last time but came to the realization that past attendances were so high because of the teams success and expectation to perform well.

    See you in Wellington.
