    Andreu 1 - Andreu 1

    mack

Wanderers midfielder Andreu Guerao Mayoral scored a brace in Adelaide, unfortunately for his new club however, the first was into the back of his own net.

Andreu scored at the same end, one in each half, the first as a result of a Tarek Elrich run down the left flank. The Australian international fullback's cutback deflected off the head of Mayoral, leaving Andrew Redmayne no chance to make a save.

Once again a failure to apply a finish or killer final ball kept the Wanderers supporters on edge, as Piovaccari, Castelen and Sotirio in particular butchered spectacular chances to provide either a goal or an assist, Sotitio with the worst of the lot when he blazed over from point blank range when he should have been able to score or set up a team-mate to do so.

Defensively the Wanderers were much improved on their loss to Brisbane, giving Adelaide little time or space to work with. Craig Goodwin had the shot of the night for Adelaide, a smashing long range effort that Andrew Redmayne produced a miracle save against, turning the ball onto the crossbar with his fingertips. The save kept his side in the contest before they put the game back on level terms.

The stirring second half comeback was sealed after Andreu pounced on pass from Tarek Elrich deep inside the Red's penalty area that didn't even make it out of the box before being intercepted. The Spanish midfielder skipped easily past a forlorn challenge before he blasted a shot that Adelaide keeper John Hall wasn't able to keep out..

I still can't believe how Sotirio managed to not only miss the entire goal from that position, but miss it by a good metre or two.

We deserved at least a point.

if fred can start putting the ball away we will be fine. If not we will be frustrated all season because natural finishers, we do not have.

confidence should be positive now for the derby. A loss would have been a massive disappointment even though the difference is only one point.

    #bring back bullut.

Vidosic needs to start, Pio needs to come on as an impact player and more aerial balls to him.

Romeo is a monster just last moment decision making needs to strengthen.

Adelaide army are obsessed with the RBB :xnod:

Castelen's first touch, poor teamwork and poor decisions are having a detrimental effect on the whole team. He could do with a week on the sidelines.

He provides too much pace and creativity to leave him out at the moment he needs to stay in the team but has much work to do!

    Frustratinggggggggggg.

Potential the best team in the A league. Can't score goals.

    Same old same old unfortunately.

But Still our play improved on last week. Man we start scoring we will finish on top.

That last 10 minutes, I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Still excited, bring on the derby.

Head and shoulders the better team in the second half.  It's just that last third decision making that needs work.  Positive game for me.  Our attacking was decisive versus Adelaide's laboured efforts.  Always confident we'd get back in it.  On another night with a bit more composure that would be 3 points.

Might be a play at the Melbournians to get on board.

    Still shots me to tears.

Didn't they give one of the visiting EPL players a Sherrin when they were over playing.

Better than last week, still lots to improve on.

Rome wasn't built in a day, or even 2 weeks. But let's hope it's built for the derby next week.

Can't believe some jokers are have a pop at Castelen, consistently one of the top performers.

Still, after two games we are at the same point we were in season 1. Look what happened after that... And we have been the best team in both games.

Someone, soon, is going to be on the end of a thrashing. The Smurfs will do nicely... :)

Castelen is quality, if he is born with better genetics and he isn't injury prone and is probably still playing in Bundesliga, Eeredivisie or Ligue 1 and have at least 20 more caps for The Netherlands

    Sortiro - gotta go

    Dimas - unimpressed so far

Italian - looking like an uninterested, unfit Dino 2.0 but $600k more expensive

    Entire backline much more improved.

All in all happy with the point and bodes well for the derby next week

    Thoughts on the match:

    - Taking in Adelaide at their own game, who'd ever thought that we could actually outplay Adelaide midfield like we did for large periods of the match

    - Another defensive lapse led to a goal, FFS Neville! You can't afford to dive in on a player like Elrich with quick feet & yes I know it was an unlucky OG but he should have never got past the edge of the box

    - We were hurt so badly playing a high narrow line leaving room out wide, the amount of balls thaf were played outside behind our backline was a touch concerning. The fact that Adelaide couldn't play through our middle with there team was a definite positive.

    - We created so many chances in the first half but we were shambolic in the final third!! Very frustrating! You've got to be really happy with our passing out from the back & the way that we are creating chances, something that we haven't been that successful in the first few years.

    - Second half we turned it on, it was just really unlucky that we couldn't put a few more in the bavk of the net. Castelen was at the core of all our chance creation but always made the wrong decision, taking on a player when he should have crossed & crossed when he should have shot! The goal was deserved because of the way we put pressure on them & the chances we created

    - After the goal, we were a bit lucky to hold on but I'll take the point!

    Players:

    - Pio was trying really hard last week, this week he was doing more defensive work than he did last week but every time he touched the ball nothing would come off. He would trip over the ball, miss hit passes & couldn't get around any player. Nothing would come off. What is going on with this guy? Confidence? Maybe. Fitness? Maybe. Out of form? Maybe. Hard to put my finger on it, he has the pedigree.

    - Castelen was the catalyst for everything good we did in attack, anytime we created s half chance he was involved! He also did more defensive work today too!! My only issue is that he nearly took the wrong option every time in the final third, if this guy can sort out his final ball then we will have lots of goals this year!

    - Nicols & Jamo :good:

    - Dimas & Andreu, not offence to Poljak & La Rocca but our Spanish players have the defensive work our last players did but there ability to pass & hold the ball is second to none. With the right players we will finally see the change in style come off! Can we keep them fit is the only question!

    - Hamil & NTS, both 200% better than last week, seems like we were a bit too soon with criticising them! Looked much fitter, much quicker, more confident on the ball & taking less risks at the back. So much more successful playing out of the back & it makes me really happy to see them have a good game

    - Redmayne, thought he was excellent tonight! Won us a point tonight with that incredible one handed on to the bar & completed the rest of his work without too much drama. You certainly can't complain that he wasn't good enough when he essentially didn't make a mistake or error in judgement. #redmaynein

Agree with this. It's only a matter of time before he is crocked unfortunately.

He is a step ahead of most others at this level.

    • Have you ever been on the Shinkansen in Japan? It's amazing It's probably also the main reason we can't have something like it in Australia until our population is 30-35m, because the Shinkansen stops at pretty large towns and big cities. Goulburn is a population of less than 50,000 - to even consider building multi-million dollar infrastructure (and by that, I mean the train station and the extra distance by routing for the train line to go there) for a town that size is just pork barreling at the moment. I think the smallest Shinkansen station on the main Osaka-Tokyo line is for a town of 50k population or so - I feel that would be the turning point to even consider going to Goulburn. Otherwise, something like Sydney-Wollongong-Canberra-Albury-Melbourne, with capacity to build a Goulburn station on the Wollongong-Canberra leg. Apparently Wagga Wagga is more populous than Goulburn so that could be another station between Canberra and Albury
