  • Fornaroli Pulls Trigger On Babbel Sacking

    mack

A horrific defensive mistake gave Bruno Fornaroli a saloon passage to score and defeat the Wanderers 1-0 at Parramatta tonight, with reports that the Wanderers board will sack Markus Babbel within the next day.

With the looming Sword of Damocles hanging by a thread over the head of Markus Babbel he needed his side to fire against a red hot Perth side, but his defensive duo of Dylan McGowan and Patrick Ziegler let him down inside 10 minutes as the visitor's opened the scoring.

McGowan's woefully underhit pass wasn't met smartly by Zieger and Jake Brimmer pounced, the ball fell for Fornaroli and he burst towards the Wanderers penalty box. McGowan compounded his error by standing off the marquee striker and he punished the Wanderers, firing into the defenders legs, deflecting past the desperate lunge from Daniel Lopar.

The Wanderers first major attack of the half took until the 26th minute, Muller & Yeboah combined before Georgievski launched a chip to the edge of the penalty area for Nicolai Muller, his knee height first time volley looked like it was heading to the top corner until Liam Reddy rose into the air and palmed it away with his left hand. Perth had the ball in the back of the net shortly after but were denied by an obvious but late called offside.

Mitch Duke had a good chance 5 minutes before half-time, from a wide free kick he cut back to the middle of the penalty area rather than attack the usual lobbed delivery, but he couldn't get his shot through the sea of players.

Kwame Yeboah thought he has the equaliser 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Georgievski blasted a shot at goal, it was going wide until Yeboah stretched out to turn the ball home, initially thought to be off the chest it turned out after a video review to have been a handball, after a long delay the goal was ruled out.

Brimmer continued his good game with a fierce strike in the 70th minute, firing the ball just wide of the Wanderers goal. Markus Babbel made what could be his last substitutions as an A-League coach, bringing on Mo Adam, Tate Russell and Nick Sullivan, but they couldn't get the Wanderers over the line legally at least.

Perth snuffed out the game, grinded out the 1-0 away result and took all three points, and with are reports that Markus Babbel will be sacked as the coach of the Wanderers, the Wanderers greatest coach may have ended the career of their current coach in Popovic's first return to Parramatta since he left all those years ago.

The Wanderers have a bye next week, and return to A-League action against the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday February 2 in Gosford.

Not saying you were wrong at all. More that someone here is going to know more than me or most of us about standard practice. Even @FCB (come back to us!)

I wonder who made the choice to pull the trigger on acquiring Cox last week since there was no way this was on JT/Lederer's to-do list for this week. Grabbing a striker when you essentially have no manager is an odd move. Honestly it just sounds to me like the club doesn't really know where it is going

i know you were not saying i was wrong thank you i just wanted to cover my arse incase someone somehow got the impression that i had a clue..........about anything really.....cause i dont :P

it is a very strange move, i agree there doesnt seem to be a captain at the helm.....the lights are on but no one is home :P

    I'd have Popa back tomorrow.

I would have taken him back from the moment he left the building. He wins more than he loses

on local vs international coaches i think locals are usually better, just think of the most successful a league coaches, Ange, Arnie(sadly), Popa, not many oversea's coaches are as successful but then again there are a tonne of different factors

A huge factor here is knowing the local players. In a league where you are capped on visas, local knowledge is big.

It’s not meant to take as long as it does. It’s meant to be a short segment and then cuts as soon as players come out - but we’re queued too early and players take too long to enter the tunnel.

can you tell them to stop it.

I rather no noise than that low droning noise. What are they trying to achieve? make the atmosphere intense?

    Amen to that....

Even though it's most likely to happen, an emergency meeting doesn't auto mean a sacking, but it doesn't stop the football media to jump to conclusions

    Edit....and it's done lol

i sometimes wonder if we gave Jean-Paul de Marigny the rest of the season as a trial what would happen, honestly couldnt hurt imo but all we know about him is he likes to attack sydney fc players which is a massive plus :P or he could be a caretaker coach till we find someone and at least we dont have to rush finding someone if we do that

that said not rushing doesnt mean its going to be successful

he pretty much looks like Babbel too.......so maybe he has been our coach for weeks pretending to be Babbel

they listened to me........that is not a good thing

JP is only caretaker. Can't get much worse than now.

if the media was right and he had all the control anyways then it cant get worse since he is in charge both times :P i do like our new assistant coach though

    Is it groundhog day?

I wonder who is the next lucky coach we will bring in so we can sack them in another one and half seasons.
