  • Good Friday Draw In The Darkness And The Gloom

    mack

An otherwise dreary match both weather and football wise was lit up by two pieces of individual brilliance, with Yojiro Takahagi's stunning free kick & Melbourne City winger Harry Novillo's solo effort seeing the two bottom half teams share the points.

Nikita Rukavytsya took advantage of a poor pass from Novillo to run at goal, only to be cut down by the big haired City central defender Kew Jaliens. The referee showed him a well deserved yellow card, and there was a line of enquiry that suggested there should have been a harsher punishment. As it stood, City were punished in a different fashion, as Takahagi took a two step run-up before curling a delightful shot into the top corner.

Novillo struck back with 5 minutes to play in the first half. He took possession on halfway, he cut inside with far too much pace for right fullback Sam Gallaway. A neat run across the path of the winger by Jack Clisby saw Mateo Poljak fail to defend against the man with the ball, and before Takahagi or Aspro could close him down he unleashed a drive of such venom and swerve that it deceived Dean Bouzanis and left the keeper clutching at thin air.

Tomi Juric should have put the Wanderers back in front before half-time, as Tando Velaphi made one of his trademark errors to hand the national team striker an open goal, only for Juric to somehow manage to miss wide right.

The second half was a dank affair to match the inclement weather, neither side being able to penetrate, and after 3 minutes of injury time the referee mercifully brought the match to a close. The draw, combined with Brisbane's 6-1 trashing of the Central Coast Mariners, saw the faint glimmer of hope for a finals spot should Perth Glory get stripped of their points for an alleged salary cap breach wiped out almost as soon as it had begun.

The Wanderers next match is against FC Seoul in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday the 7th of April at Parramatta Stadium.

Triforo seems to have gotten a bit of speed into his game, Ruka hopefully not out of action to much, still hit n miss with him, but as always missed chances come back and bite us in the bum.

Romeo is a gun, better than Hersi. Bad conditions made it hard to control the ball. Wer'e building to retain our acl and for next season.

Is it just me or did our game drop off a bit when Ruka came off?

My guess is the guys got worked hard a bit at training to prepare them for next week vs Seoul. Ran out of puff.

i know i am obsessed but why the hell did we take so long to bring on bulut? juric is a waste of time

My uneducated guess would be that Popa wanted to use Bulut sparingly tonight to save him for starting against FC Seoul.

Considering that both Ruka and Aspro had to be attended to by trainers due to the wet surface, I think it was good to sub Bulut later.

I think Ruka's forced replacement changed Popas plans and strategy had to change. I think Bulut was supposed to be on late as planned so he can start on Tuesday. If Juric put as much energy into shoot farrkken and staying on his feet, instead of trying to draw fouls, he would have alot better strike rate.  :nono:

i think that was the case, personally i was hoping he was subbed on with about 20 ish minutes to go

i agree and juric is useless the only energy he uses is breathing, he doesnt do much else, Dean was good today but needed a step ladder to make the save

The juric open goal miss sums up our season

sums up him as a player imo

juric over bulut any day. Bulut is nothing special

If you take your red and white goggles off you can see how much work Bulut does compared to the most over rated striker in HAL.... His current form did not warrant a Socceroos call up and a lot of people were suprised by his selection, not due to his injury but why he was picked at all.

After the **** that happened in the Bulldogs-souFFS game, I am glad this game brought back my sanity and took out all of my anger and frustration in the RBB.

We saw a small portion of that fight Juric used to give us week in week out. Bulut is still my number one due to recent form, but I could have two loves of my life if his form improves (I hope it does)

Gutted he didn't put that open goal away. As MFD said earlier, summed up our season.

I give my lungs for this team, moments like Takahagi make it worth it in an otherwise flat night.

Not sure why the Victory chant happened but if that's what the Capo wants then that's what he gets.

Otherwise that game was ours, they came back a bit in the second half but we were the better side..

and we got more than Roar did last night lol

    We drew. It rained.

    Who the fook cares...LOVED TONIGHT!

Heading to Wanderland for another episode of Wanderlove, sharing yarns with comrades and doing the Bavarian eat & drink, knowing that no matter how bad things are in terms of ladder position or lack of goals I'm still embedded in the Western Sydney Wanderer experience and wanting it to continue no matter the results...it's games and nights like this that winnow the chaff from the wheat. For every win over CCM away in season 1, or a 1-0 win at home over Al Hilal, you need match experiences like these to keep the faith with.

PS Those talking AFL in the stands, as well as for fookwits demanding Popa's head on Twitter, go take a pogo stick into a minefield you quadratic-poly-binomial-fooktards

    Bravo

I was directly behind Novillo when he hit it, my god I've never seen a ball move like that so fiercely. The thing almost turned 90 degrees he hit it so hard. Bouzanis didn't even have a hope of even getting a finger to it. Another game that we've been dudded by an unbelievable strike.

I'd love to see Tomi and Bulut play together. Tomi regularly wins the arial contest off a goal kick, having Bulut running off that would be a pretty potent combination I reckon.

To the people who were helping out the injured possum in the hospital car park, good on you. Poor little fella wasn't having a good time at all haha don't think he could handle us not winning again...
