  • Henrique Keeps Wanderers Anchored To Bottom

    mack

A dubious early penalty converted by Henrique on a stormy night in Parramatta kept the Wanderers winless and adrift in last place on the A-League ladder.

The gift penalty from Kris Griffiths-Jones was slotted down the middle by the diminutive forward, while the Wanderers were content to dink the ball around the edges of the penalty box in an apparent refusal to shoot at goal, a refusal which cost them a chance of getting even a point from the game.

Seyi Adeleke was adjudged to have brought down a Roar player in the box and Henrique made no mistake to open the scoring in the 4th minute. The Roar were the better in the first half but couldn't add to their lead.

The Wanderers took control of the match in the second stanza, but a seeming obsession with playing on the flanks instead of taking shooting opportunities began to frustrate the 10,000 strong crowd who braved the atrocious conditions.

Nikita Rukavytsya had the best and final chance for the home side, as he finally took advantage of some neat play to blast a shot that cannoned off the woodwork and went out for a goal kick.

The Wanderers next match is against Adelaide United in Adelaide on Saturday the 6th of December.

without doubt he worst game we have played so far this year, maybe even ever. no direction, no exuses, both players and manager were very poor tonight

The first 30 minutes was the poorest we've played since round 1.

I worry for our season but I have complete believe that we will make the 6. Need 11 wins.

I think it was a penalty

Yes it was, Mack go and get to specsavers tomorrow lol
To tell you the truth, I don't know how we can make that call when there were bodies in front of KGJ when he made the decisions, the camera angle doesn't really confirm anything because it's from the wrong angle and the only one who could make that decision was the linesman. From upper east I thought he got some of the ball but replay at home doesn't tell me anything

We deserved better than that tonight from the team ,considering 10,000 of us made it there in terrible conditions . Call me negative ban me don't care but 4 home games 3 draws and 1 loss . Can't keep using the ACL , travel/ game schedules, tiredness, poor refereeing . Team still need time to gel etc etc as excuses all season . That was a terrible performance tonite no excuses

Looked at the replay, thought Adeleke got the ball first and the lineswoman didn't flag for it. Potentially Bad call = Dubious.

Plus KGJ view was obstructed, don't know how he could see through players and bodies, must have X-Ray vision.... Unless the linesman used there mic to tell the referee that it was a pen.

Fair enough, my first reaction on live TV was penna and the replay didn't change that for me and no discussion by the commentators about a dubious decision either, I know if it had been at the other end we would have said it was clear cut 100% penalty.

But anyway, we weren't good enough to get anything from the game regardless of that decision.

It's hard to take when we played that poorly. Frustrating decision making from a lot of players. We had a few chances but Roar never looked like they were going to concede. Not confident for Adelaide on saturday.

Boo's were 100% for the referee. If you listen they get louder as KGJ and his optically challenged assistants approached the tunnel, peaked as they reached the tunnel and stopped as soon as they entered the tunnel.

My first thought on the penalty viewing from the stands and not really seeing a good replay was that it was a penalty but KGJ was generally terrible throughout the game. Every time a roar player went down it was a free kick, except for the dive Henrique took in the first half which he waved away (when a roar player questioned the decision he gestured with his hands that it was a dive, where's the card?).

We didn't play well but we all knew what kind of refereeing performance to expect when we saw who was appointed to our game.

Very disappointing perfomance. The conditions didn't assist a passing game for sure but a few more shots would have been nice. As for the penalty, I thought it was a fair call. And anyway we shouldn't use that as an excuse, we got lthe luck in the ACL final for one thing and secondly it happened with almost 90 mins still to play so we had plenty of time to turn things around. It did appear as we were trying to walk the ball in, ala Arsenal at times. Unlucky with Ruka at the end but from where I sit it looked like The Roar hit the post just before that too. I thought the RBB and crowd were awesome. 10,000+ for a midweek game in the middle of a ferocious storm. There isn't a club in the A-League that would get that. The Smurfs would have had 3-5k tonight for example. There is not much between anyone in this league. We can go to Adelaide and win, silly as it may seem tonight.

One of the four worst performances I've seen from a Wanderers team...up there with the capitulation against Victory in Season One at home when they were down to 10 men, last season's loss to Newy when the RBB had their silent protest, and the game against Perth this season when we looked as far out of it as possible.

Aside from Ante the only ones who can hold their head up are Ruka and Hamill. And Saba and Adeleke are rapidly confirming suspicions about the influence of Italian football on players.

Teams have figured us out long ago.  Popa needs a 'Plan B'. We seem to be doing the same old things that don't seem to work and not changing them when they fail.

That's another game we threw away. We should have taken those 3 points comfortably but in fairness we were very poor.

Cole gave away a ridiculous amount of free kicks and hardly passed the ball forward.

Adeleke was caught out of position far too much again.

Baccus did ok and certainly gives us more going forward than La Rocca. or Poljak.

For all of Haliti's huff and puff he certainly isn't good enough to start as a striker.

Would like to see us turn the midfield triangle around and play with 2 ACM's when we are chasing games. 2 of Saba, Bridge and Baccas would be ok. Something needs to change.

Struggling to find a MoM tonight so I'll give it to the RBB. Clearly our best performer over 90 mins.

    Do we even shoot?

I think the crowd were wanting the players to shoot from 20-40 yards, I didn't agree with those sentiments

Regarding the boo's, was directed at the referees while they were walking off and once they were off the field they stopped

In these conditions, there's always a chance that the ball might slip in somehow if a shot is taken.  Either way if you don't shoot, you don't score.

Penalty or not, there was plenty of time to get back in to the game but we didn't. We did not get much penetration until Rukavystya came on.

Boos were definitely for the referee.

Very disappointed. The heart is not in it. Nobody wants to shoot, we are losing and there is no urgency.

Ground being heavy, slippery ext is no excuse it was the same from both teams.

I don't think it was a penelty but regardless we did not diserve anything from the game.

I don'tind we lose trying but we did not even try....I think some of the are ready thinking of Morocco.

Didn't think it was a pen. The ref had 3 players between him and the ball. The linesman had a great view and didn't give it. However, saying that we had 85+ mins to get back in the game and we just didn't create enough chances.

The keeper had to make 2 saves in the first half which were both in the last 5 mins of the half. The second half was just as bad with just 1 tame shot before the crossbar intervened. A poor game and performance all round. Both full backs had performances they would rather forget and the speed of ball movement was just too slow.

A poor game to lose and hopefully we get some sort of positive reaction this weekend.

Cole's been standing next to Spira for far too long.

RBB was excellent tonight.  I guess that's what happens when most of the fIogs are safely tucked up at home because of the rain.

I would be tearing Baccus apart if I was Popa, in the first half when he beat a couple of defenders in the penalty area and then he just dived trying to win the penalty.

All he had to do was take another touch and then he had a good chance to shoot.

I sat in the western stand tonight, because my mum didnt go so i took her seat to stay dry (my major mistake tonight)

Never again, all the fans there do is yell out crap to the ref when he makes a right call, criticize the players they pass the ball backwards and quite a few people left at the 88 minute mark.

I'm sure that there are lot of people in the western stand that know their football, and it was probably just a few idiots sitting near me,
But it made the game not enjoyable to watch.
