    A measure of revenge was dished out by the Western Sydney Wanderers against Wellington today, with a Santalab brace giving his side three points, and securing second position on the A-League ladder.

     

    It was a dominant display by the Wanderers, and after half an hour they were in front. Romeo Castelen, mining his rich vein of form, stormed down the right flank onto the byline. His low cross beat Andrew Durante at the near post, the ball bobbling between Santalab & Ben Sigmund before dribbling over the line for the opening goal.

     

    Santalab had his brace minutes before half-time. Castelen was involved again, this time in a more central position as he beat Sigmund then laid off a short ball into the path of the striker. Santalab lined up a shot from just inside the area, firing past Glen Moss at the far post. Replays showed Moss was unable to react to the the strong shot bouncing in front of him.

     

    Wellington tried hard in the second half, mounting pressure against the Wanderers but it all came to nought. Western Sydney ran out the game with measured possession and tight passing triangles, running Wellington out of the game.

     

    The Premiership itself, having slipped away on Friday night when Adelaide defeated a tired Melbourne City, went to South Australia on the back of Brisbane's draw with Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

     

    In front a strong away support contingent, the win gave Western Sydney 2nd spot, as they finished equal with Brisbane Roar on points but ahead on goal difference. The finals picture has now been confirmed as Perth lost the final game of the round.

     

    Week 1 of the finals will see Brisbane Roar play Melbourne Victory for the second week running, this time in Brisbane on Friday night. On Sunday, two losing sides will line up at AAMI Park, with Melbourne City facing Perth Glory.

     

    Week 2 has Adelaide United play the lowest ranked week 1 winner, in Adelaide and Western Sydney playing the highest ranked winner from week 1. The winning teams from those fixtures will play in the Grand Final.

    The players have dinner at the Nix fan pub then mingle and Merrick makes a speech then we all sing **** the Victory Melbourne boys...did I mention you're missing out across the ditch....maybe why Popa for the first time ever greeted the travelling contingent shook hands with us etc. ..is this on Foxtel...

    They quickly ended the telecast after FT so we saw no post match celebrations

    Pretty munch zero police presence around the away bays tonight

    Didn't see one cop all day.... Our duds in FFA could learn from this..... The hospitality from Yellow Fever was unbelievable and I will get my second wind and head out again soon. There was quality banter, heaps of happy fans from both teams and some videos I will need to put up somehow in the coming days, of bar staff joining in and going orrrfff with the RBB, whilst still pouring drinks....What an awesome sight to see.

    The RBB were just amazing and I really would like to thank these guys for what they do for our club. For the first time I joined them, albeit from the back section but wow, I'm so glad I did. :golecapproves:  

     

    I'm really sorry I can't go hard for 90 minutes coz as Jess would say ,"I'm an old grandpa" but those that do deserve a medal. I love this away trip and will definately be my annual pilgrimage and I will come back for many years to come.

     

    Thanks also to the Yellow Fever dude who led our march with the massive Phoenix flag, so we didn't get lost :ninja: , getting into the stadium... 

     

    Again I met so many people once more from RBB and WSF, too many to name. Thanks Ben Trup for handing out the free tickets to all those that had bought tickets already.  :ninja:

     

     One more thing I would like to mention is there is one particular poster here whom I have had run ins with for many years who has a very funny story to tell and one day he may just tell it. I just want to say this man was a true gentleman. I have found a new respect for him as a person and I'm so glad we had time to chat to realise we both may have our difference of opinions but we both bleed red and black. So glad to have shaken your hand.......FINALLY!!!  :rofl:  :rofl:  :rofl:

    But as you said, once we get home it's back to business. Respect brother.

    on the match we were sloppy and while we won we really need to do better to be in contention for the championship

    Well done to the RBB guys down the front who directed the chants, the drummer...and to all the others who generated so much volume. :D :D

    Brisbane are a strong team at home. I would expect them to get through the Victory and meet us at Wanderland. I would be fine with that match up as well.

    Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City or Perth Glory? Mmm tough question. Depends on if the opposition team arrives ready to play or not, they have all been pretty inconsistent. On recent form maybe Melbourne City?

    Notes from Wellington

     

    First of all: we have to do this NZ trip as a tour of duty exercise again. Maybe in two years. On a Saturday, or a long weekend, aiming to get 500 people over. There was nothing about this ToD that I could fault. Quite the opposite. The best trip I've been on.

     

    Second: what I love about these away trips is that I get to meet people that I've "known" for years from the forum, and all if a sudden they appear in the flesh.

     

    Third: The hospitality of the phoenix crowd was extraordinary. They had no problems mingling with us at "our" pub and welcomed us at "their" pub. And not a single cop in sight. Not a whiff!

     

    Fourth: if we think of the wsw as a community club then think again. As we were present at "their" pub, we got to hear the speeches of Siegmund and Merrick, had chats and selfies with their players etc. Talk about a family environment. They adore Ernie Merrick. And why wouldn't they? Top coach and top bloke.

     

    Fifth: the RBB is rather a fluid thing. It consists of whoever is present at the time. It's not the raucous lot from Bay 56 that makes the music, but a mix of all sorts. Everyone put in a shift to the best of their capabilities, and that needs to be acknowledged. And unless I am mistaken, this Motley Crüe of wsw supporters came across quite convincingly on TV, did it not?

     

    Sixth: a special thanks to the dedicated cheerleaders, La Banda members, and enthusiasts like Pup and DamnedUnited. It is you guys who make these trips possible, worthwhile, and special for all of us. Thank you! I am dreaming of getting capo and all of La Banda over, and maybe the club could help to subsidise their journey. They deserve it.

     

    And finally: it's past 11pm - time for my meeting with the sandman. Unfortunately the meeting will only last til 4am as I have to head to the airport so I can go to work tomorrow morning. Faark me.

      Best shown by a chance Toure had when an Indonesian player had fallen over, he had a simple ball about 10 meters that would have put one of our attackers clean through for a one on one. He over-hit it and ruined the chance. Also falling for the same old Asian team diving & time wasting, by giving away stupid fouls to let them fall over and sit on the ground for minutes. 11 minutes stoppage time is probably half what it deserved.

      Yet again, a failure of pace and power football over technically skilled football in on display in the Olyroos vs Indonesia.  We need to develop skills over pace at all levels
