  • Inept Wanderers Throw Away Premiership Advantage

    mack

A glacial and inept display on both sides of the ball has consigned Western Sydney to a potential title destroying 2-0 loss against Melbourne Victory.

Oliver Bozanic tore the Wanderers to shreds, picking up a brace in the Victory's demolition of the erstwhile league leaders. With the Wanderers wanting to put one hand on the Premiership, they turned up looking more like the wooden spooners. Just three minutes into the game and Melbourne Victory were in front. A trio of Wanderers defenders let Kosta Barbarouses skip around inside the penalty box, he attempted a lob that bounced off a defender, he regained then laid the ball into the path of Bozanic. Despite having to recover the ball from behind him, no-one bothered closing down the midfielder and he blasted a shot that went under an atrocious attempt at a save from Liam Reddy.

Western Sydney should have gone a man up in the 43rd minute when Daniel Georgievski went in with a studs up lunge that collected Mitch Nichols in the knee, a red card anywhere in the world, except of course for Strebre Delovski while officiating a Melbourne Victory home game, he received a yellow card.

The game was over in the 66th minute. Barbarouses & Finkler made a joke of the Wanderers defence, as they failed to clear after several mishits, a backheel and one shot that rebounded to Bozanic. Nichols decided to fall over instead of trying to challenge for the ball, and three other Wanderers defenders stood and watched as Bozanic fired at the far post. Reddy again made a hash out of a potential save, getting a weak hand to the ball but doing nothing to stop it going into the back of the net.

It was a technically inept performance both with and without the ball, and pathetically heartless after going behind early. Instead of reacting like a potential Premiership winning team, they folded like a cardbox box soaked by the rain. There were no positives, the red card being given would not have made a difference to the end result, combining this result with the draw against Adelaide and the gifting of three points to Brisbane, it will take a miracle for the Wanderers to come back to the top of the league by the end of the season.

wow. no words can explain how I felt about that game on Friday. I am not even  going to try....

It is however soooooooooo damn frustrating to watch us do all the good work only for the final third to keep on letting us down, week after week. It must be hard for our midfielders and wingers to keep on working tirelessly only for the front third to misfire, one after another.

Popa must realise that we are not likely to be a real threat in the finals if we can't score and keep doing same old.

There is indeed a real lack of killer instinct upfront in our squad (excluding Santa perhaps). Watching some of the other strikers in the league, you can see they are hungry and want more. Our guys are almost too scared to be mongrels. I say bring back BULUT. That guy was a ***** animal. We need him!

Greatly enjoyed the free walking tour of Melbourne provided to us by VicPolice.

    All downhill from there.

My favourite part was the Asian woman who took over some of the capo responsibilities on the walking tour. Just banging it out with passion. What a legend.

Not sure if it has been said before, but my worry for the next 2 rounds and then the finals is that we were able to get only 1 point from 3 games against a team that sits 6 points outside of the top 6. :sorry:

However, if I look for the bright side coming out of this round, it is that by letting MV beat us, we effectively confined ESFC to 7th heaven for yet another year. :good:

Should be alongside Boris every week.

That certainly helps. No matter what happens, we finished higher than them again, and they'll have to watch the finals from their mansions.

Mclaren is the Roars man of the moment but lets be honest if we had signed him in stead of , say Pio, we would have had a whinge fest for 10 pages before seasons start. What we can say is that Aloisi has done a good job with him, a bit like popa and defenders.

I think what has happened is what we all secretly knew in recent weeks, we really aren't title contenders and haven't looked like it since the vic game at home.

I said the same thing to my friend. Since the home game against the vics we haven't looked like we had the hunger anymore. That's pretty much when Bridge and Nicolls lost their form.

We hit our form run too early in the season, teams have truly worked us out and the poor finishing hasn't helped.

Our set pieces have got to the be the worst in the league, even if we were in NPL, we would not score from them.

More worryingly for me is that heart/passion is not there especially from the new players. The players of S1/S2 had that in abundance, you can see it when they do WDYSF.

It's the extra 10% needed that truly changes games, and can make ok players compete with the best.

Just as long as you get it

    No the whole

    Problem

Is club mentality popa isn't Jesus he can't turn water into wine so why do we keep signing leftovers

yeah, signing leftovers and rejects really failed in season 1 and most of season 2 didn't it.  FFS  the facepalm is strong in this one.

What happened to the innovation of the corner @ Perth? We have to work on **** like that...traditional cross into the box corners are a total waste of time for us.

    • We've handled your physical games before, and we were still capable of beating your team as we have some before. Our defence should have done better but we had so many clear cut chances that both Nunez and Salah wasted them for their own selfish reasons.
    • Exactly, Marko needs to "cosplay" as Bielsa squat down and smoke ciggies
    • Sorry but you know I have to put the laugh icon on that don't you? I thought Osman's and Owen's assessment on it was pretty fair. You create chances but you don't finish em, and your midfield isn't up for the physical ugly stuff, Everton managed to turn the game into the physical stuff that suits us. The other thing is DCL bullied your defence absolutely monstered them. Trent Alexander Arnold is a **** defender, he can hit the odd Hollywood ball for the highlights clips but he is a really poor defender. Badly at fault both goals, first one where the f was he it was WSW esque he was way out of position. 2nd one ok he's unlikely to win a header against DCL but at least get up and make a challenge (maybe you pressure him to put it off target). He just stood there. Arguably St Virgil shouldn't have let himself get stuck behind Tarkovski. Finally St Virgil post match, having a whinge about 1230 kickoffs, was funny. Lid it's Wednesday night go buy an alarm clock. I think I might grow a disc beard in tribute the Dyche Man (sorry Shaun ft ever doubting you, you tactical genius you) Anyone noticed that since the Chelsea loss Dyche has dropped the white junior bank clerk shirt look and gone for the trackie manager look. We have one both games. Rudna take note
