  • Last ANZ Derby Drawn

The last Sydney Derby of the Wanderers nomadic three year existence away from Parramatta ended in a 1-1 draw with a goal in each half.

In front of a 21,000 strong crowd, Sydney FC opened the scoring 7 minutes in. When Alexander Baumjohann and Keanu Baccus made a mess of possession in midfield, Anthony Caceres released Alex Brosque who fired a low left footed shot from the edge of the area past Vedran Janjetovic.

With the Wanderers looking the better of the two sides after half-time, the Wanderers equalised in the 57th minute. Baumjohann stepped up to take a free kick just outside the edge of the area after a Brandon O'Neill foul. Off a short run he blasted at the parted wall and it took a deflection off Adam LeFondre and beat Andrew Redmayne in goal.

Around the hour mark Baumjohann found Oriol Riera with a looping cross, the marquee striker rose for an uncontested header from point blank range but only nodded the ball onto the base of the post and away from goal.

Deep into stoppage time Giancarlo Gallifuoco delivered an outstanding cross into the middle of the area for Abraham Majok but the striker's touch took the ball over the bar, and he may have been offside in any case. The final action came from LeFondre as he curled a wonderful strike towards the top far corner only to have it tipped around the post by Janjetovic. The draw means that Perth Glory have one hand on the Premiers plate going into their match against Newcastle tomorrow,

The Wanderers play Central Coast Mariners on Saturday 20 April in Gosford.

On a funny note, Balkanite and I had a lot of fun winding up Ufuk Talay on the ESFC bench during the game.

The dickhead wouldn't stay in his box, so we had a few choice words for him.

We definitely got under his skin because he made a few gestures our way throughout the game and then right before half-time he starred down Balks with such fury that I honestly thought he was going to jump the fence and have a go  Even our friends in front and beside us noticed it and made comment.

Didn't take too kindly to me flipping him off either :P

The tides turned. Sydney are no longer dominant in the derby like they once were. Corica needs to stop warming Arnies seat and walk his own path. Their playing style is expiring and has only gotten them this far because some personnel from the Arnie era are still around to play it. Next seasons derbies are going to be very different affairs I feel

For me he is improving and doing better but why does he turn around and go backward so often????  A few times he obviously saw a bigger player running for the ball and discernibly slowed down.  I enjoyed his more aggressive approach early on, as I did with others (except Baccus, who I thought was going to do another brain snap al a Melbourne City in Jan and get sent off!).   On the whole Kamau did well but he doesn't cross well nor get it into the box as often as he might.

Still not sure about him in RB.

I reckon he has massive potential as a wing back... His fitness and workrate is outstanding and he can actually get around defenders when he does get forward (unlike Lloriente for example, who rarely if ever threatened to get around his man)... He is also working harder on his defence... I remember one tackle he made in the box, deep into the 2nd half after we turned over the ball cheaply while on the attack; the sky blue scum broke fwd; Kamau was 15 to 20 yards behind the play but sprinted back as the ball was played into the box; elrich lunged in to prevent a shot from about 10 yards out; the Smurf player cut back inside and prepared to fire home; Kamau arrived and saved the day... I for one appreciated it... It typified his approach to the game...

I wish I could believe you hey, we can say what we like about their club - there's endless insults...

but they at least know to win trophies you need to sign the talent. They lose a player like Bobo so they go out and sign a player like Le Fondre.

Whereas we just can't seem to get the marquee thing right, and it shows.
