  • Mariners Park The Barge To Claim Point In Parramatta.

    mack

Western Sydney dominated their midweek A-League clash but couldn't find a way through a packed Central Coast defence.

It was 90 minutes of anti-football from the Mariners and 90 minutes of a team still struggling for cohesion and match fitness failing to break them down. There were a handful of chances but few if any managed to be put on target, and those that did were easily covered by the defence or goalkeepers. The Wanderers looked reasonable on an individual level but no-one stepped up for a moment of glory, while the Mariners sat back and played as if in a 6-4-0 formation for the majority of the match.

    That's it.

    That's the match report.

The Wanderers next match is against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday the 22nd of November at 5:00pm at Parramatta Stadium.

We were clearly the better team, no need to panic - the climb up started tonight with a single point.Roar will get belted this week and we will win meaning we will climb over their carcass.

Those farkers parked the bus hard tonight but ill credit them with the way they smothered our midfield and shut us down very quickly. We should do the same as we afforded them too much space at the back and let them get too far up the pitch. We had enough chances to win that one 5-0 no joke. Lot's of positives with certain things but i recon we need bridge to start more often as he links play well. Can someone please just cross the ball first time too. 2 points dropped however a clean sheet and plenty of chances... we'll get there! Good crowd too on a week night better than 3,600 lol

I felt that with the number of personnel changes for this game (and many Mariners players backing up) we should have used that to our advantage but we did not.

We seemed to lack intensity (and sharpness), which was concerning and I believe a leader with NTS's demonstrative urgings - to pick the lads up and drive them on - was sorely missed. For all Spira's calm and composed play a captain also has a role to stir up those around him to reach higher levels of commitment and performance.

Tonight was but a small step forward into an increasingly strong headwind! We must ensure we are better than this in the games ahead.

one thing i will say and some of you can tell me to **** off but what has happend to the defensive system we used to play last season where our front 4 would pressure the oppositions backs into making mistakes and cutting the time they have to play out from the back? I remember shinji, bridge, hersi they all use to put pressure...now we just sit back and give the opposition ample time....esfc have been putting pressure on from there and ccm did so tonight.

I believe we were below par today.

Had we buried 1 or 2, it would have been WSW are back! For now, we have a clean sheet, we created chances but all that was missing was the finishing. Yes it would have been nice to up the tempo and change gear to just pile on the pressure but a bit of desperation will hopefully come!

I know the Mariners played a similar side over the past few weeks but it was clear the tactic was to just sit deep, close the space/channels and on attack just hoof it forward. The annoying thing was we were just outmuscled off the ball too many times giving them too many half opportunities to get a sneaky goal. Too many times we weren't communicating or just not commanding enough and I wasn't happy how we looked at the back dealing with the long ball. Apart from that they posed very few difficultues, I just hope in our next two matches we are more clinical in front of goal.

I recon towards the end if we went wide first time and with pace we would have scored off a header you could feel it however we were to indecisive about it and got shut down very quickly. Castellen should have done alot better with the last effort inside the box...first time cross and who knows what may have happend. bridge for the limited time did some good things and held the ball well...he needs to start..ccm played for a draw tonight and got one however they are no where near the force they used to be with so many gun players gone from the club.

Don't think that Romeo, ruka, saba and Juric have the engine to press like those that you mentioned. It won't be until they get there match fitness up that they might start doing it as s team rather than just in drips and drabs. I would say even last season we didn't press like we did when we did it in the first season.

Agree with your thoughts on CCM, in terms of scoring, we are creating chances and we are getting into good positions creating opportunities to score goals. I don't think we need to adjust anything in particular but just "put the ball into the back of the net *****"

Fair result, they were better in the 1st half, we controlled the 2nd. It was good to see all the new guys get game time, they got better as the game wore on and should continue to improve against the Jets.

The #notoanz banner should be hung up on that back sign for the rest of the season, well done.

Disagree a little that CCM came and totally parked the bus, I thought at times they retained possession, moved the ball well and showed similar intent to us at times, they should have scored a few themselves. They have lost pace and cutting edge this last year or so but CMM retain the organisation they have always had. Finishing from both sides was poor.

Personally I think a draw was about the right result and Mack could have picked his headline better.

Also what was with the repeated pinging the ball out to Adeleke either a foot above his head or blasted to him so ***** hard he could do much with it... give the guy a chance FFS

Slightly disapointed with Castelen tonight, was expecting a little more, and Ruka still not quite there. Thought we had better shape when Bridge came on.

Overall a frustrating night in front of goal but a point gets us off and running  :good:

a few extra side things I saw tonight,

I liked it when Mitchell Duke blew a kiss to the corner post crew, that was funny.

Why are they still playing that farking big bad wolf song before the game????!!!!!!!

Did anyone else see that little 360 to nowhere from Adeleke???
It wasn't as bad as the one in Wellington but it was still a wtf moment.

Some of the kids playing at halftime looked older than Saba

it was one of KGJ better games, he tried to let it flow a bit more, there wasn't his usual 40+ free kicks a game

I disagree, right from the first few moments they were bombing the balls down the wings as a way of attack which then just moved to just hoofing it anywhere by the second half. The only time they looked at having possesion in our half was when we made a mistake and they got the ball. The only time they created problems or had any attacking intent was when they hoofed it long. The biggest sign of intent they showed was playing duke in the midfield and putting a midfield as striker. Wonderful intent.

All up, I think we did ok. Plenty of chances to pocket the points. Promising signs.

No doubt we missed the leadership NTS provides.

Adeleke was good in defence but definitely needs to work on his crosses.

Our front four looked good, no doubt they will improve in time as they create combinations and such.

Glad to see Shannon at right back.

    Yay for a point :meep:

Also, 3 sleeps to game day :meep:

Prydz, the missed chances is the reason we were below par, on a good day for wanderers, that ends 3-0 to WSW, we weren't upto it today, hence the below par comment....

Thought his awarding of yellows was ridiculous, poljak yellow was ridiculous but then no yellows for similar if not worse tackles later on. Surprised he let the lunging tackles go and didn't pull out a red

Fair enough, if we were below par today then the previous four games would be rated much worse. I see our performances in terms of progression and we are progressively getting better and better
