  • Mariners Prove Too Hard To Break Down

    mack

The Central Coast Mariners set out to claim a draw against the Western Sydney Wanderers and they did just that, as the match at Parramatta finished without a goal.

The Mariners had precious few chances, having set out to stall and time waste from the opening half, their play condensed into a rinse repeat of long ball after long ball to the head of Matt Simon. The Wanderers should have taken the lead through Nikita Rukavytsya, only for the winger to appear to pull out of what would have been a tap-in had he not been spooked by the oncoming goalkeeper. Western Sydney's attack couldn't break down a team insistent on playing with everyone behind the ball, although questions will be asked of the Mariners after their decision to play for a draw against the last placed Wanderers.

The game was dull and quite forgettable, two bright moments for the Wanderers being the first match for new signing Nick Kalmar, and the senior debut of Michael Trajkovski. The match as a whole was massively overshadowed by a post-game tirade from a handful of members of the crowd, pointed mostly in the direction of fullback Shannon Cole. Cole, who was a leading public figure in the players union fight to claim more money from their ultimately failed Club World Cup bid, eventually made his way up towards the home end after a tirade of abuse was hurled at him by that small section of the crowd. Security eventually managed to send Cole on his way and the tensions simmered down after the players made their way over to clap the supporters and vice versa.

When Western Sydney first began the majority opinion, expert and punter alike was a last placed finish while being competitive. Perhaps they will judge themselves right in the end, even though they had to sit through a Wanderers Premiership & Asian Champions League success to see it.

The next match against Melbourne Victory looks like being the final chance for numerous players, with the likes of Adeleke, Saba, Appiah & Mullen all set to exit in the January transfer window. Changes can't come soon enough for the wooden spoon favourites, having failed to win a single game so far this A-League campaign, leaving them already 12 points behind 6th place.

The Wanderers next match is against Melbourne Victory on Tuesday the 6th of January.

Who's the hero in the black shirt brigade. Fat F*ck could hardly climb the fence. His membership should be ripped up immediately along with anyone else who condones this wankers actions.   :smurfpoint:

No excuses for this poor form, none, nah, nein, zero, zilch.

I'm going to go with ARMATR (I can never get that right).

My brother missed out on active membership this season, looks like a window might have just opened for him lol

News.com.au is reporting the RBB turning on the team, someone needs to end this garbage ASAP.

I bet that they wont report the standing ovation from the crowd after the game when most of the cameras probably went away
One or two muppets mouthing off at the fans, just like the few fans the were booing at full time. Doesn't speak for the majority of us but it's not something you want to see.

Let's not forget the disgraceful banner before game, 'fight like your fans'. We must get rid of this bad supporter culture, a bit more democracy perhaps ...

    Jog on. Lol
Haha... Maybe if you knew a member of the RBB was fighting cancer for his life you'd know what the banner was about, think people before you post, maybe ask a question why did the RBB use these words next time?

Definitely, he was struggling even in the first half to close down and do the defensive work that a number 10 in the WSW side is expected to do. Promising signs, but I'd like to see him deeper and someone who can unlock defences playing number 10 for us!

There was talk of saba having some form of punishment of around three or four games any one know any truth to that.

What I REALLY want to know about tonight's game is how the fûck do you get a chance to be in the half time Wanderdog eating comp?

That was bullshit, apart from the stupid idea but that was the slowest eating of a hotdog I have ever seen, I could've downed 3 in the time that it took one of them to eat 1

Bloody oath, and those people dawdling as they put on the cap and apron, get amongst it lads!!! Surely Lederer's meat wasn't that bad

my brother and I would've smashed that competition, he can run a 100m in just under 12sec. and I'm a master at eating food lol

Also does anyone watch Bouzanis during the warm up??

he has some serious skills, can juggle it with the outside of the foot all day long and his passes from about 50m were pin point accurate back to Ron Corry when Covic was practising his clearances and goal kicks.

We commit too many nonsense fouls, instead of holding the player up and let him move back wards, we usually just kick them and give them an unnecessary foul and heap pressure on the team

wtf are you all on about

We made tons of chances but couldn't convert - see Ruka's tap in, see Labinot's header that went wide from that wonderful cross, see the massive break with Sotirio screaming for it down on the right, etc.

Cole didn't have a great game, Bridge was hot and cold, Ruka I felt was wasted in the middle due to his speed but Haliti played fantastically on the right, Covic was a beast, etc.

They scored zero goals and as we know clean sheets are an important foundation.

I was worried when I saw Duke and Simon looking very ominous in the warm-ups, but they had no chance to replicate that in game.

Therefore all that weighed up: I'm happy. Bring on Tuesday!

The fox footage will be consumed and used by all the haters to say that our castle and in their terms "bandwagon"is falling apart and it will kick the club and its fans while we are down. Very bad look that. This is all unravelling as an utter mess.... Can we get ante milicic back asap? The popa and militia duo worked well in the first 2 seasons....

If you learn anything from watching Adam Richman gutz himself on Foxtel it's important to use your beverage to help moisten the bun. I didn't see and cups on the table so can only assume they went dry mouthed. Hence the skowness.

BTW think I saw the cut-lunch commandos who had one of their number wanting to try it on with Cole post match. Lot of loud mouth bitching about the cops and the players...

Which players would people like to see sacked?

    Don't spare the details.

None, we add to what we have not subtract.

I even want Kubi to stay.

I only want submissions from irate, emotional and negative people.

The ones who are now contemplating suicide because we aren't winning.

That was a very unusual development and certainly irregular for someone who has just been dumped.  Some huge post CWC party that had a few people partying too hard that we're not aware of?  He didn't even get on the plane to NZ so whatever it is happened before that.

I'm starting to think Saba is a bit too light for the A League physicality.  He is stick thin and seems to go down easily, at first I thought it was intentional but there have been a few times he has just been bumped off the ball easily and didn't seem able to stand his ground.  Maybe during Asian Cup we can get him down to the Bavarian for a few steins and schnitzels and add a bit of bulk to him?

myself and some others on here have been saying this since last season:

    popa has no plan b.

the formation stays the same and every sub is like for like.

i'll never understand why we dont play 2 up front, go 3 at the back, or stack the midfield when we are chasing games.

it makes us predictable and other teams have worked out how to nullify our strengths.

this season is a write off. just get the team ready for the acl or we will be out in the first 4 games.

    • The guy is a professional footballer, even playing on a different side to his preferred, the concept of defending doesn’t change. He hardly looked like he was giving it a go. I think all too often we can be so lenient on mistakes made by players across the league. Let’s not forget that they are professionals, they get paid (a bloody decent amount) and should have the skillset required to atleast be able to do a job in a different to preferred position. It’s not like all age, where one week they are banging then in as a striker and then next they’ve got the gloves on as the regular keeper is away with the missus.
