  • No Victory Against Victory

    mack

The Wanderers run without a win continued as they lost 1-2 against Melbourne Victory tonight.

Melbourne Victory opened the scoring, a half-clearance from a corner being smashed in on the volley by Carl Valeri. New Wanderers signing Nick Kalmar scored the equaliser, Rukavytsya cutting the ball back for the ex-City midfielder who made no mistake with his shot from distance.

Just as the Wanderers were piling the pressure on, hoping to break the Victory down for a winner, the key moment came when Berisha managed to bullock his way into forcing a shot that was saved by Covic, but fell to the feet of Gui Finkler who lifted over the stricken keeper in the 80th minute.

The Wanderers go into the Asian Cup break having failed to win a single domestic match this season. For the Wanderers to take anything from this season they look like needing a drastic change in personnel on the pitch and tactically, with the old standard 4-2-3-1 formation being ineffective on both sides of the ball.

Trifiro made a big difference when he came on. Much prefer him over perkatis, but it is also good seeing perkatis get game time (definently will be good if we can hold onto him and develop him). Dissapointed with the result considering our chances. Coe made a couple of very good saves, and they scored a good volley and got us on the counter, other then that they victory weren't too threatening.

Cole seemed to be trying really hard to play well. Ben kalfalah and Berisha are probably two of the worst players in the league to be marking, both are very dangerous.

First of all well done to the 14,500 odd that turned up on a tuesday night. That's a great effort considering our current plight. RBB was awesome tonight as was the entire crowd.

On to the game....there are a few players that sadly to say need to be replaced with more solid alternatives. The two victory goals were conceded from poor marking in the box and jumping in on a skillful quick player. Both totally avoidable.

Anyone could see barbarouses was giving golec a headache all game and the second goal came exactly from jumping in on him and losing out to the pace and skillfulness.

Another thing i could not understand is why play ruka on the right hand side??? The guy has a left peg and looked akward trying to shoot from the right side using his left foot..trying to adjust for a shot was akward for him. He was also unable to cross on the right side with his left foot too. I wonder how he would have gone if those chances came down the left side on his natural footed wing? Playing him on the left allows him to shoot first time and cross, giving us two options. He played well tonight considering the bullsh?t decision to play him on the right.

Kalmar is a great player and again was busy in midfield. It was fitting he scored the equaliser.

Cole did well against the vic no.14 and i thought he contained him well at times.

Once again we are struggling with the striker/forward position...i know it doesnt help with santa and tomi being out, but the club messed this one up in the 14/15 recruitment.

Haliti is well passed his used by date up front and we have no other options. Hate to say it but until juric and santa get back, we will struggle to score at striker. Coe saved some rippers tonight, however we were not hungry enough up front to take advantage of their defensive **** ups....the open goal chance at the end is still haunting me.

The team did put in the effort tonight, but you can't compare effort with actually getting something from the match. I felt we deserved a draw from that game. Unlucky for the team, but it is just the way it has been rolling without the full contigent there and right cattle in key positions.

Lastly to the travelling support.....wtf? It honestly sounded like shelbyville's version of the cove...it would have been nice if we had won though.

Cue the WSF members who complain in every post to get their quota up...

Not a bad performance by the team. Excellent performance by the RBB. Well in for the Covic chant first up after last week

I do think people are entitled to moan about their team that's only won 4 of their last 24 games.

Although the 4 we've won are probably the best 4 teams we've played. Football is a strange sport sometimes.

Im pissed off we lost. The important thing is that we see changes though. It will get better.

And how bloody good was the rbb tonight? It hasn't felt this good for a long long time. Excellent performance, a variety of chants and plus the apology from the capo. I'm actually happy with how things went, bar the result. They split the capos and gave a mega to that bloke with the long hair. Great stuff, im gutted there's no games for a month now.

ZOMFG those disgraceful chants about mothers and sons and that vitriol they included. Someone needs to be pulled aside and cautioned about allowing this in the family friendly a-league!

:bouzanis: to everyone that thinks about going down the path of saying the above.....

Any other coach would have been sacked for those stats. The club has shown great faith and looked after popa here.

Kuzi & Ruk hit the corners of the net, we romp it in...effort is there just the finishing. How long till Santa is back?

I work for a certain Western Sydney organisation that incidentally has many Wanderers members.  A family Christmas party was arranged by said organisation recently.  My son & I were there in our jerseys.

While waiting with my son in the queue for the pony rides, I received a tap on the shoulder.  I turn around, & it's Brendon Santalab!!  Top bloke!!  We had a bit of a chat, but I didn't want to be in his ear the whole time.  Santa said he would be back in February.  He is itching to get back on the pitch, but acknowledged he was lacking match fitness.

When discussing the goal drought, I said to him "You've scored some clutch goals!"   Despite his massive sunglasses, the biggest grin appeared on his face, I kid you not, & he replied "I've had some fun."  I wished him a speedy recovery & thanked him for attending.  More than happy to pose for a photo with my son & I.  Absolute champion!!

    February it is!!!

Mind pointing out any other coach in the a-league that has won ACL?

Created the chances but couldn't finish. Hoe many times was the ball whipped in and no one was there. We missed Juric!

Thought Kalmar had another good game, and Coe made some good saves for them.

I followed the game via online radio. Sounds like a lot of positives can be taken away from this game. It doesn't help when we are forced to play our remaining forwards out of position, and we continue to play without quality wing backs. Oh well.

The last game prior to the Asia cup has been played, the transfer window is open: let the refresh begin. Let's hope that Spira and Juric are coming back to us, and that we will see Santa, Castelen, Ruka fit and firing.

Seeing the younger players like Perkatis, Sotirio and Kuzmanovski get on and show real hunger gives me comfort.

One day we will play with an entire starting XI born and bred in Western Sydney and i can safely say that that day will be one of the best in the club's history. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

My apologies, as winning the ACL gives immunity from any critisim in the domestic aleague competition. Were only a couple of injury recoveries and some smart transfers away from getting back to our best.

For the little kids at home and the over protective parents whose kids probably hear worse in the school playground,

tonight the chant clearly said 'puck' , as in 'puck you miss' from summer heights high

I wish the whole stadium would have just let rip with the proper version at the victory fans. They had good numbers for a tuesday night but they sounded to me like cove version 2.

The Victory were chanting how they were going to score "in a minute" when Kalmar put it in...classic moment - shut  those douchebags up for a while thank god

    Am more happy than sad.

I loved that game. You can clearly see the direction they are heading in. Big effort from all the boys.

I was eased to see Ruka on the right. He came in last game ans was hoping he would do the same from the right a put the left foot to good use. I thought he looked the goods down the line on the right but maybe pushed to far and had to rely on his right boot.

Kalmar looked solid again and a great goal finally. Glad we have him. He works well in this team.

    Great game from Cole.

I thought the subs were a good call. Kuzi seemed comfortable and showed some promising skill. Would liked to have seen him on earlier though. Hopefully he will get further opportunity.

To me, signs are promising. Popa has a plan and it looks to be a good one.
