  • Pathetic Draw Against Perth

    mack

The Wanderers failed to take advantage of a poor Perth Glory side to draw 1-1 in front of the lowest home A-League crowd ever for the Wanderers.

The major piece of pre-game news was the loss for Perth of Diego Castro as he suffered an injury during the warmup. He was replaced on the bench by Jake Brimmer. For the Wanderers they were missing Brendan Hamill and Brendon Santalab, with Jack Clisby moving into central defence for the 2nd time this season.

Western Sydney opened the scoring in the 9th minute. Following a short free kick routing, the ball was cleared by the Perth defence but only as far as Keanu Baccus. The young midfielder fired in a wayward shot that fell to the feet of Bridge, he set himself to shoot on the turn, and perhaps with the aid of a deflection the shot flew past Liam Reddy at the near post.

Perth hit back instantly from the penalty spot. Joel Chianese was judged to have been cut down by Vederan Janjetovic after the striker got a touch onto a through ball. The replays were far from conclusive but the slight touch from Vedran to the knee of Chianese was enough for VAR to give it the green light. Xavi Torres sent Vedran the wrong way and it was 1-1 inside 15 minutes. Marcelo Carrusca could easily have won a penalty from an identical situation late in the half, but he elected to leap over Reddy and continue the attack.

In the dying moments of an abysmal second half there was a flurry of drama. Jaushua Sotirio was cut down in a one on one with keeper Reddy and after a VAR delay the card colour was changed from a yellow to a straight red for the keeper. Central defender Dino Djulbic was pressed into action as an auxiliary keeper and he saw Carrusca's free kick blaze over the crossbar. Despite 8 minutes of having a man advantage and a non-keeping keeper, the Wanderers hemmed and hawwed in the backline and couldn't even manage a shot on target.

Off the pitch the Wanderers decision to ban the RBB from the game resulted in the worst ever home A-League crowd for the club, with just 6,216 fans showing up, in a week where the club handed out hundreds of free tickets. Perhaps this will be a lesson to the club and the FFA to stop chasing the mainstream media and start accepting that football culture isn't going to always be the "family friendly" atmosphere in the AFL or NRL.

The Wanderers play Wellington on Sunday March 10 at Sydney Showground.

The three security guards sitting inside the fence on the grass and watching the empty RBB bays was both funny because they looked dumb and infuriating at the same time because it was a totally unnecessary waste of resources and money.

lol i noticed that but at the same time i forgot about it, very funny, i want that job(looking at empty seats)

Would this be the same VAR which, less than a fortnight ago, we were all calling to be scrapped?

i never called for it to be scrapped, i love the idea of the VAR but its meant to be used to correct clear mistakes but is not doing that, its gone in our favour too so i am not saying oh no the VAR is out to get us but its not doing what it is meant to be doing

    Reddy blow up was priceless

Reddy turning to clap towards the empty RBB seating area as he was "cheered" off showed that he hadn't completely lost his sense of humour and, along with the Kenny Lowe antics, provided some of the afternoon's only bright spots.

I went through gate d? (Rbb entry) yesterday for the first time, usually go through gate A. Had a bottle of water and a rolled up rain jacket that could easily have been concealing something. Made eye contact with the young guard holding the wand, no search or pay down, nothing! I don’t want to be searched, but FFS have some consistency! I’m quite young, and can look a bit suspect at the best of times lol

Well, as far as security is concerned, every single Wanderers fan looks suspect. Even those of us who have young kids.

Young Wanderboy has been patted down and scanned twice this season because he is such a threat.

    **** that.

On a different note, Liam Reddy cops a one (1) match ban for a DOGSO.

Where's the one for the first half tackle on Llorente. That was a clearer DOGSO imo.

Security over the top yet again. Not allowing water into the stadium. Making people empty their bottles before entering. The Wife getting metal detected front AND back and the machine going off on her rings and thin bracelet ffs. And getting questioned about them. Then again at her ankles for no reason. Its like they were trying to make a scene. She sat with my mum who said she has NEVER seen that kind of treatment at Gate A. And for the first time every, they had to show their membership cards to get into the Black Bays.

My mum told the steward "I know where I'm going" but they needed to see it. Ffs there were like 20 people in their bay all game. What an absolute joke. Are they thinking the naughty RBB are going to storm the reserved seating areas and punch on with our fellow fans? Frak this whole thing off.

The lowest crowd ever for WSW in the HAL (6612 to be correct) was a good thing to see. It wasn't just the RBB boycotting. Many others have been as well. Expect to see a similar crowd next week for a Saturday night game vs Nix. Clashes with the NPL2 game but that won't be the reason. The reason is the entire HAL is dying a quick death.

All A-League fans need to boycott the finals. That hurts the FFA the most as the money goes to them.

But I can't see Newcastle (don't blame them) or SFC boycotting their semis (because they are angels).

Crap performances aside. If we weren't subjected to these security measures and antagonistic behaviour towards us, we'd rock up. But the entire experience of being treated less than human is turning EVERYONE away.

    Stop talking sense.

    @prydz

Agree about baccus snr. I was excited to see him back but he barely broke into a jog for the 30 min he was out there.

This is a damaged and broken squad.

I know most are sick of me banging on about gombau but i have to say i expected a bit of a tough period while he implemented his system what i didn't expect was how bad he was going to be at man management.

Even the spanish players seem to hate him and not one of our squad is busting themselves out there for him.

    The bit in bold^^^^

I have never been #Gombauout but i am starting to question his skills as a manager. Connection with your players is crucial. Its hard to see that connection at the moment. And hard to see the belief from the players.

One things for sure,  we cannot have this cr@p next season. He would need to go if thats the case

A significant portion of our side know they are as good as done at the club. They will be already looking for new clubs and trying to avoid getting hurt.

But I would've thought that when you're looking for a new club, you'd want to put on good performances to show your potential new employer how good you are?

They won't attract much interest with the performances they're putting out!

Was very forward thinking of them to do that from round 6 onwards

So guys have some bad news but just heard on Soccer stoppage time podcast that NRMA insurance pulling out of 1.2 million dollar deal  due to flare gate hearing it on Twitter as well Jon turner posted it but if this is true big loss financially

    Is this guy credible?

He’s a Glory Boy if you look at his account.

It won't be because of 2 flares. It'll be because NRMA aren't getting the same value as they did during the "ACL Era".

Ratings, crowds and general interest has cratered. It's the worst since the dismal 2011/12 season 5 years ago.

This season WSW are heading for their lowest seasonal average crowd average. We just had our worst ever home A-League game attendance. SFC look like dropping ~2500 from last years average (which will probably be their lowest since 2011/12). Victory will probably drop below 20k (again the first time since 11/12). The only improvement has been Newcastle. The overall league per game average looks like it'll also be the lowest since 2011/12 and be the 4th lowest in the league history.

We got a very big deal because the A-League and WSW had a lot of eyeballs on it. Companies don't enter into sponsorships just out of the goodness of their heart or because they think the club is "family friendly", they do calculations and metrics and look at what they are getting back in exchange for their cash.

WSW aren't worth the $1m plus a season any more. And the club owners, the CEO, the coach/players who have been around in the past few years are more to blame for that than anything the RBB has done.

its very sad that the RBB will be blamed by the idiots for the loss of sponsorship if its true

Anyone who thinks Sotirio could have kept running after Reddy took him out has rocks for brains. Very from the Chianese incident where he actually laded on both feet then dived to the ground.

that being said, we had three clear as day penalties that should have been awarded and we got none.

    Don't forget blaming the FFA

    theyre the ultimate culprit

And I'm sure the first one was a DOGSO with Raul taken out by the last defender. It would have only been a yellow card though.

On a slightly lighter note I marveled at the Linguistic skills of an elderly supporter in front of me on Sun, he managed to construct literally whole sentences with just swear words on several occasions. Fortunately he had a whole row of seats to himself, then again so did I.

THE New York family terrorised by Brisbane Broncos forward Matthew Lodge say it is heartbreaking he is continuing with his life and will be held as a role model for young Australian rugby league fans while failing to show any remorse or pay the $US1.6 million in damages ordered by a US civil court.

They were also upset by remarks made by NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg this week alleging discussions were taking place to conclude the matter.

Llorente's "penalty" wasn't. The defender just managed to get the ball. It it was outfield and in our half it might have been given but not as a pen.
