  • Redmayne Hands Jets Point

    mack

Andrew Redmayne threw away a win for the Wanderers as he gave away a foul then compounded his error by allowing the tame free kick under his arms to give Newcastle a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The Wanderers looked liked they were cruising as far into the game as the 80 minute, only to succumb to a late fightback with the game ending 2 all. The home side, playing their first ever match at the Homebush Showground, took an early lead as Artiz Borda scored the opener in the 23rd minute. After returning from suspension, the central defender rose against Nick Cowburn on the edge of the 6 yard box. Newcastle committed the cardinal sin of not having a man on both posts, and Borda's glancing header skidded off the base of the post and over the line for 1-0.

A silly handball from Ben Kantarovski gave club captain Dimas Delgado the opportunity from the penalty spot, and he sent Jack Duncan the wrong way to double the Wanderers lead going into the break.

Nigel Boogaard, better known for getting sent off instead scored a milestone, as he scored the 20,000th goal in the history of Australian league football. He rose at the back stick, with Redmayne coming out but getting nowhere near the ball, along with the rest of his defence, leaving a gaping open goal that Boogaard couldn't miss from a few yards out.

Redmayne cost his side the win in the 88th minute. Giving away the foul 25 yards out from goal after the keeper charged out of goal only to collect substitute Morten Nordstrand as he tried to round the keeper. Andrew Hoole fired at goal, his chest height shot going around the poorly positioned wall, Redmayne was slow to react, and when he did react he reacted poorly, with awful technique that allowed what should have been a routine block to creep under his hands to see the game finish 2-2.

This match can be added to the ever growing list of games that should have ended with a clean sheet but due to defensive frailty ended without one, and this time it also ended with 2 less points for the Wanderers than it should have. Jerrad Tyson must be given a chance to cement a full time starting position, as Redmayne was the difference for the Jets in this game, adding poor handling technique to his already dubious habit of poor judgement when deciding to charge out of his goal. Steven Lustica was anonymous, and despite a stellar pre-season has done little to show why he would be ahead of Nico Fernandez, Shannon Cole or even one of our younger players.

Western Sydney play next when they take on the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 29th of October.

There was a time where I saw Bulut just kick the **** out of the goal post out of frustration.. which pretty much just summed up my feelings throughout the 2nd half.

I thought Tyson was given the number 1 pregame?

Keeping in our system is multi dimensional, Covic was let go by Popa because his distribution was lacking even if his shot stopping and command of the box was strong. Redmayne has what we need in terms of distribution, and shot stopping but lacks command.

Vukovic might have been a solution, he wanted to come to Sydney and ESFC likely picked him up cheap, now he's their no 1. Reddy had presence but lacked the speed and composure on the ball.

There is no doubt Redmayne had a shocker, but unless Tyson can play out and distribute better than or at least as good as Redmayne we won't see him.

Popa will likely keep him next week and work on the drop in intensity which he will likely be more disappointed in.

It was a concern that there was a drop in the intensity in the last quarter of the game. However, of more concern was that the intensity did not lift after they conceded the first goal. Surely the alarm bells should have been ringing.

We play our matches at high intensity and it's very difficult to maintain that intensity for 90 minutes. We need to manage that a little better than we do.

Well Popa has quite often subbed one of the two midfielders. He seems reluctant to give Pinatares any responsibility. Concerning.
It is concerning, especially as Pinatares was recruited as a foreign player. You rely on your foreign players to be the best players in the squad. Well that's usually the case. It's still to early in the season to make a long term judgement call, he has only had one game, but Popa did the right thing. He had a shocker and got dropped. The same should be happening to Redmayne. Edited by Jukes01

I don't think we should be giving Redmayne any excuses for the second goal. I'd like to know how slow he thinks our CBs are if he thought he needed to come out!

He has actually been pretty successful at rushing out of his area and preventing goal scoring opportunities in recent times. He did a few times last week against Adelaide. Also did it in the first half against ESFC successfully, and was able to keep the score at 0-0. He just misjudged this one.

I think it is more the way the free kick was scored that got to everyone (or the combination of both). So soft, and the wall wasn't even set up right. So obvious where Hoole was going as well Then the first goal where a ball into the box like that should be a keepers ball. Instead he crashes into a group of other players nowhere near the ball

did anyone catch in the replay after full time Kalac tellin Bulut to **** off. Looks like bulut was gettin into a heated debated with the jets coach?

Yes saw that. Bulut was frustrated for a number of reasons. He is out of form and he was hacked a few times yesterday and got nothing for it. He did have a bit of a brain snap when he got the yellow card, you could see exactly what was going to happen. He got fouled got sprinted across the whole field and checked their player. If they've got no confidence in Tyson and it's clear Redmayne isn't and never was really a solid No.1 where he blows hot and cold, we should never have re-signed Tyson. A solid No.1 is needed with a backup which would be Redmayne. I don't know who that No.1 is though. Vedran aint that man. He's just as prone to spills as Redmayne.

No if we listen to Popa when discussing the squads he has faith in all the players. All the players signed can do a job otherwise they wouldn't be signed.

I just don't understand why no one thinks Tyson can keep goals. He did a pretty good job at GCU, he was unfortunately behind Covic at WSW, then behind Vukovic at Perth. Two very talented keepers, When he has kept for us he has done a great job and kept a clean sheet in every match he has played for us. Not sure what he has done or hasn't done to deserve this.

some of us have seen him either train or play in NYL or pre-season matches. He plays like he has oil on his gloves. positioning is poor from what ive seen, and his distribution isn't that great either (but that could be instructions from the coaching staff)

he's basically redmayne without the ability to catch the ball.

    IMO or course.

You are joking about Redmayne's distribution right ? It's woeful and everytime there's a backpass the

stadium holds it's collective breath anticipating he will stuff up. Anyway forgot about distribution

I just want a keeper that can catch the ball. Not much to ask really. Over to our famed coaches.

You must mean pre season because I looked for the fixture results and the youth league starts in around the middle of November.

On Redmayne's distribution, have a look at the stats. Redmayne has attempted 33 passes this season and completed 28 (85%). His only incomplete passes were attempts to find a player in the opposition half, i.e. a safe, long ball.

For comparison Vukovic has attempted 37 passes and completed 21 (57%). 6 of his incomplete passes gave the ball away in his own half.

We actually look dangerous from corners. Borda and Cornthwaite with good aerial presence.

Yes! In the all disappointment from the way we let the points slip, this has been overlooked.

Was Borda's goal the first time since Spira in the Brisbane Grand Final that we have scored directly from a corner?

This is the best starting 11 that will take the field at some point next few weeks

    Redmayne

    Hamill cornthwaite Aspro clisby

    Dimas melling

    Nico mitch Jumpei

    Scott (or santa)

The new position will be used to get a striker - and he has to be aussie ... Unless we can pay out pinatares (who looks like he won't play again unless we have a horrendous run of injuries)

I think it will be a striker(wide player) those two are interchangable.  Won't be until January.  I would then love to see Nichols push back into a number 6, a deep lying playmaker role, with Nico as a number 10, Jumpei, 7 but narrower and the new player either 11 or 9.

Nichols to me has an engine and is a true box to box midfielder

I kinda hope Tyson starts next week and we lose 4-0 to CCM because of his errors.

That way people can finally STFU about him getting a chance.

    ******* this!!!

The guy hasn't played consistent football since Hong Kong (arguable quality concerns there) and then prior to Hong Kong he last played consistently for Gold Coast United.

The best thing is to give Redmayne more game time to get his confidence up.

Tyson lovers, you will eventually see him come ACL time.

It's not about being a Tyson lover. It's about both keepers being able to do a job for us. Right now Redmayne isn't up to it.

Some people are just not sure Tyson is the answer, that's all.

But its only a matter of time before Tyson gets game time. Whether that's before the ACL starts is anyone's guess.

Tysons got confidence in spades over redmayne problem is Tyson would need time to gell if I were popa I'd blood him in this weeks ccm game if it cost us so be it

    Borda I'm not convinced

    Dimas isn't anderu

And nico needs to start lustica on bench

Cause then we got Perth victory ect don't want a fumbles costing us

Imagine if we had someone who could hit a proper corner , the high floaters that Dimas delivers are terrible . Sure we got one on Sunday but surely someone can hit them better than Dimas .

    Tyson was horrendous in Cessnock.

    Both our keepers are ****.

I think Bulut should of taken the pen, guy needs some confidence.

Question is, who are we bringing into the squad now NTS is gone ?

What if Bulut had taken the penalty and missed , would have risked becoming another Pio except for the tatts and a funny haircut.
