  • Roar Tamed By Mebrahtu

    mack

A tense FFA Cup Round of 32 clash between the Brisbane Roar & Western Sydney Wanderers was decided by a solitary goal to injury ravaged winger Gol Gol Mebrahtu.

The 69th minute strike was well deserved for Mebrahtu who was arguably the best on the pitch throughout the contest. Numerous players were making their competitive debuts for the Wanderers, but it was Romeo Castelen who turned the game around with his introduction before his touch put Mebrahtu in on goal.

The flying winger made no mistake, with a calmly placed shot that completely beat Jamie Young. Brisbane had little impact in the second half, their best chances coming from free kicks awarded by the as usual, overzealous refereeing of Kris Griffiths-Jones.

The Roar managed to put the ball in the back of the net once, but the final touch was from an offside player and it was correctly ruled out.

Draw for the Round of 16 will take place tomorrow, at 4pm on Wednesday the 12th, with the full list of winners being: Adelaide United, Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory, Wellington Phoenix, along with National Premier League teams Rockdale, Sydney Olympic, Sydney United, Lions FC, Palm Beach, MetroStars, Heidelberg, Hume City & Oakleigh Cannons.

So anyone.knows why the freeway was closed on Malgoa rd?

There was an accident at the roundabout leading to Glenmore park. Three cars were involved.

I watched the second half, was very pleased with what i saw. Lost of crisp, first time passing. Jamo overlapping, Nichols and Andreu passing well, GolGol has some tight footwork.

    I'm pumped AF.

edit: Anyone know what Jamo and Bridge were talking about after the match on the pitch? Jamo looked pissed

My guess is that Jamo was pissed because he was doing a lot of overlapping runs and bridge totally ignored passing him the ball while he was in a good position. It happened a few times and if your Jamo making those kind of runs, you would be pretty pissed as well. That's what it looked like to me, you have to try and reward that kind of effort otherwise whats the point of making it.

not to worry. bridge hasn't played with a quality fullback like jamo since, well, he last played with jamo. in time it will develop into a hersi/polenz type combination but better cos fathead.

Oh, now I remember something: why was Castelen #7?

Did the 1 fall off his jersey or... what

    Like I'm pretty sure he's usually #17

Number 7 is his number for the season!

    Fair enough

We were having the debate last night, I could have sworn I saw a press release saying he was released from his current deal.

    Must've been a dream1

    Why didnt Neville play?

    Was wondering the same thing.

    Maybe 'cause he's shite?

Surely a much better option to Pepper at RB.

Underwhelming getting Palm Beach. Hopefully we can knock them over and get a Sydney side in the Quarters.

This rigged draw needs to be further rigged so we get more citywide derbies :ninja:

Popa's looking a bit thin on top of his head in that video posted by FCB, management stress taking a toll perhaps?

Anyone else see Ante Milicic at the ground last night? Good to see him still around the traps.

It's the Barcelona transition. Just look what it did to Pep in a few years.

Yeah Milicic was sitting with the coaching staff (Crooky) in the stand, great to see him around still.

Obviously there to watch Fathead to try and work out whats the best position to play him in the upcoming WCQ's

A promising performance last night. I thought Jamieson was excellent, as was Gol Gol and Castelen off the bench. Two from two in competitive games with zero goals conceded, fortress Penrith!

When is the Palm Beach match?

I saw Ron Corry with the group there as well.

Does he still have some sort of role at the club?

Ron sure does: WSW community coach and Club Ambassador.

    • Pep Guardiola: "I'm going to defend you until the last day of our lives in the press". Rudan: Runs onto the field at full-time to berate an attacker for a goal coughed up by the two fullbacks being lazy, then slates him in a post-game interview and the press conference.  Sure, he apologised for "singling him out", did he apologise for singling out the wrong player to start with? The Mariners & Nix finished 5th & 6th in 21/22 when Rudan took over. Rudan's second year we finished 4th then lost to the smurfs in Round 1 while the Mariners won the Grand Final. 3rd year, CCM are the favourites for the Premiership, the Nix have a chance if CCM drop points, and we're back in 6th with a game tomorrow against a team who beat us 7-0 earlier in the season that if we lose we're out of the finals spots, and even if we made it, we're probably just going to lose to Victory in Week 1. I'm so over this ****. Rudan has had three years and done **** all to improve things, he's not done well enough to add all this pointless drama and bullshit.
    • Does he miss the next match?
    • Couldn't they just play their NPL team? it would have been unlikely ADL would have beaten them as well
