  • Santalab Seals Dominant Win On Coast

    mack

Super sub Brendon Santalab scored a 65th minute goal that put the Wanderers ahead, with Mitch Nichols providing the sealer in the 90th minute.

The Western Sydney Wanderers produced another dominant performance to go joint top of the A-League despite a late Mariners comeback, with the Red & Black proving too good for the hosts in Gosford this afternoon.

After coming on in the 58th minute for Dario Vidosic, Santalab latched onto a superb through ball by Mitch Nichols, streamed in on goal before firing past Paul Izzo from the edge of the penalty area to open the scoring.

Central Coast came on very strong in the last 10 minutes, throwing men forward in search of an equaliser. Their best chance of the game came from Nick Fitzgerald, who had his shot denied by an outstanding reflex save from Andrew Redmayne that arguably saved all 3 points for the Wanderers.

In the dying seconds of the game the Wanderers finally sealed the match, Jaushua Sotirio drew several defenders, Mitch Nichols was in acres of space on the penalty spot, Sotirio knocked through to the attacking midfielder. Nichols' shot was utterly dreadful, but with Izzo diving to his right, the ball dribbled over the line in one of the worst quality goals in the history of the A-League. Even Nichols himself looked embarrassed to have scored, but in the end they all count and the game was won for the Wanderers.

As with the other matches in this round, the RBB and Yellow Army, the respective active support groups staged their own protests due to the FFA's unjust ban process, and their failure to support football and it's supporters after the vehement and disgusting attacks on the sport from the anti-football media in the past week. The RBB left the ground in the 30th minute, with both the RBB & Yellow Army unveiling protest banners against the FFA. With Damien de Bohun refusing to bring in a just and fair, independent appeal process, and once again failing to defend the supporters, it is likely these protests will continue into further matches of the A-League season.

A great win and was both painful and an honour to march out on the 30 minute mark.

And whilst she never will read this, to the silly b on one of my mate's Facebook page who made a pig ignorant comment about us leaving because we were losing, then deleted her post after I gave her a serve...suck it up you knobgobbler

Oh, and to be in the proximity of both Hektik Hektor & Boozy Becs at the Settlers...outstanding

Seriously is Gol Gol even part of WSW or what ?

Why isn't anyone talking about Shabow either.

Shabow only got called because he was backup just in case anyone got injured in the warm up. It just so happened that Bridge got injured in the warmup. Very similar to the situation when we were playing the FFA cup quarter versus Perth & Vidosic got called up to the bench after a player picked up an injury in the warm up.

Gol gol has been playing NYL the last few weeks, depending on how bad the injuries are to bridge/Pio/Dario I'm guessing we will start seeing him in the aleague team next week, on the bench in the very least!

Castelen was being hacked almost every time he touched the ball. Was the most dangerous player on the field for us. I was also very surprised that there weren't more yellow cards issued for all the niggles given to him.

Injuries are a concern. Definitely looked like Vidosic pulled up short with his hamstring and late in the game I also thought Butters had a bit of a hobble in his step. It might have been cramp though because as usual, he ran for most of the game, harrassing in midfield winning ball and distributing in his usual way.

Alberto, Dimas, Andreu and Jamieson once again proving to be worth their weight in gold. It was a solid performance from our back 4 in defence (albeit for the last 5-10 mins). Neville going forward on the other hand was a bit disappointing as he still doesn't seem to be able to put a good ball into the box.

Sotirio played ok but is still lacking poise and his positioning and runs leave a lot to be desired. I'd need to watch the replay to break it down a bit more but the perfect example was his "pass" to Butters for the "best goal of the season" :) Why Sotirio couldn't control the ball, take a step and shoot *****, one will never really know..

We should have been up by at least 4 before the half was out, so yes, we need to really learn how to put the game out of reach when the opportunities are presented or they may come back to hurt us.

    5 in a row :woah::xbop:

Injuries are a bit of a concern for us, just after it seems like we were seeming to get the full team back to 100% health. We lost Pio to a groin last week, Bridge we lost in the warm (news?) & on the radio they were saying Vidosic was clutching his hamstring as he was walking off (anyone got any news on this?).

Oh & despite not being an active supporter, I walked out with the others who were protesting. On our way home, I didn't mind listening to Lawrie Mckinna who was pretty spot on with everything but the main guy who was commentating was a complete muppet. His most annoying trait would be getting excited for every time a team attacked a goal but it would be followed by silence (of what felt like 10 seconds) whilst we were all hanging out to hear what happened :nono: FFS, tell us what is bloody happening mate!! It was along the lines of " X passes to Y, oh that was a good pass & now HE IS IN SOME SPACE. HE TAKES A TOUCH AND.... (Few seconds later) goal kick to the Mariners :angrycovic: A few of the comments he made were along the lines of "great to see the referee not go to his pocket regularly" (despite Castelen getting chopped at every opportunity), described Castelen as a work horse (FFS that is bridge not Castelen), would say CasteLAND or SantaLAAAB & that Mariners dominated the second half. 90 minutes couldn't come soon enough!

Enough of the scrappy wins & not playing to our potential. Time to be ruthless & punish our opponent every time they give a chance to us!

Yes Dom, they mentioned on radio that Mitch was holding his hamstring in the last 10, but for him to keep running meant that it was probably only cramp.

Frustrating thing is that the coaching staff probably identified that Dario needed a rest because he was a chance of picking up an injury. Just so happens that bridge getting injured threw those plans out the window

Two things I mentioned to my bro whilst at the game is that we need to see more of Gol Gol and Shabow will be one to watch if he can get more of a run.

Slightly worrying we let Mariners back into the game after the we got up.

Dimas. With due respect to Pepper, Dimas is indispensable in the midfield.

Didn't we score both our goals when pepper came on?

should rplace Dimas as a starter :ninja:

I think Andreu is the more indispensable of the two, but Dimas is definitely class.

Castelen had some good moments on the ball. So very unlucky not to get a goal in the first half. The referee didn't protect him at all. There were some disgusting challenges on him that went unnoticed.

Vidosic unfortunately wasn't his best. He wasn't expecting to start though.

Mitch Nichols though. Our boy King Mitch.

Mick, get it right, our boy, KING MITCH! :yahoo:

Post edited. King Mitch it is.

That was farking gold. Hoping Hektor gets today's video online quickly.

My favourite part was having the banned boys outside on the street looking in through the fence and chanting with the RBB.

    wait is hektik hektor banned?!

Wellllll his pic and name were online in the gallery. However.. on social media today he has said he didnt even know and never got a banning notice. There is a clip of him in mariners bay today chatting to them but then he got ejected and interrogated by cops.

So go figure... the FFA are farked. Thats the moral.

Yes, there is an obvious shake up of the centre when either of two main defensive mid pairings comes off.

Dimas just doesn't stop. The man is super human. He's like one of those velociraptors from Jurassic Park LOL

What was the craic with those Leeds fans amongst the Wanderers? I saw a number of Leeds shirts and a sign being held that had the WSW, CCM and LUFC crests on it...?

    Some sort of fan exchange!

Walking out was something I never thought I would do as I even complain about people leaving minutes before the final whistle. This time it had to happen. We have to stop the FFA from treating us like dirt.

Just watched shootout and unfortunately it seems like nothing is going to change, it is still guilty until you can prove your innocence.

Well done to the Fox team for standing up for the fans.

Funny moment with 10 to go, a ccm fan called out with 5 to go (and he was serious) "gees we are really giving wanderers a lesson in chanting today".......lol

In fairness i dont think he could see from where we were that rbb had left 50min earlier lol
