  • Sydney FC Steal Last Parramatta Derby

    mack

Two set piece goals were enough to give a stubborn Sydney FC the victory in the Sydney Derby tonight.

The last Sydney Derby before Parramatta Stadium is knocked down was won by the visitors, despite being dominated in terms of possession and territory, took full advantage of two set piece opportunities while the Wanderers once again spent the majority of the game kicking the ball around the penalty box and not shooting.

Sydney FC launched a corner that went beyond the back post, was headed back in before being turned in by Jacques Faty. Their goal secured, Sydney FC parked a flotilla of buses, getting all 11 men deep into their own half in an ultra defensive display of stubborn anti-football.

Dario Vidosic managed to bring the game back to 1-1 with a superb curling effort before the hour mark. It looked like only one team could go on to win the match, but it was not to be.

When Topor-Stanley hauled down an attacker after letting him run far too close to the Wanderers penalty area, Sydney FC fired in a free kick that was once again knocked back down, this time for substitute Shane Smeltz to smash home unmarked at the start of stoppage time.

In most sports, a team who are dominant in terms of possession, territory and quality will win comfortably against the inferior team, as weight of scoring chances eventually tells to produce the expected result.

Football is not like most sports.

Maybe if "we could sign" a decent striker we could win' since Saba has quoted Popa a bully" I'd love to see what Saba could of done for us after that goal in wcc

Just a frustrating night. We have one win against Arnolds teams in all meetings. When did we last concede two relatively soft goals from set pieces. We need to get over this and fast. Next match against CCM we need to collect 3 points and nothing less.

We couldn't put a shot on target and could/should of been 3-5 nil up at half time. They had 2 chances took them both.

Reddy must start next week. Redmayne hesitating twice and caught out both times. Goal keeping 101..He who hesitates is lost...

Vidosic was a passenger and except for this goal offered very little.

Neville is useless and wouldn't get a start with the Jets, why are we giving him game time here?

He needs to be pointed in the right direction .Why play back when the AWAY team is leading and happy to park the bus?

Jamo had a blinder and was Man of the match.

Oh F*ck this hurts... more so than any other loss before.  :grouphug:

Nothing. He'd be too worried trying sell more hats and shirts, get more of a tan poolside in breakfast point, ride around in his jeep and grow his man bun. You know everything else except training to get fit enough to play more than 10 minutes

It's not even about a decent striker, we can't afford to have four front/attacking players getting opportunities & not taking them. Pio got dropped but it was the same problem as the last few weeks, just need to be more clinical.

Reddy must be thinking his start is coming soon after watching tonights game.

Redmayne seems to be a good fella, but geez, sometimes the occasion or opposition crowd really gets in his head and he just wilts.

Really really hard loss to take. We have nothing to blame but our poor finishing. Smurfs get two chances and convert. Romeo still trying to walk the freaking ball into the back of the net. Our inability to defend set pieces seems to have reared its ugly head up again like round 1 against the meow. Why the **** was Dimas substituted for Baccus? As good as he was it was questionable. It's almost comical how they always seem to snatch a cheap goal in the dying minutes EVERY game.

Really ******* sucks we all now have to listen to the smurfs bitch and moan about how Sydney is sky blue. Nothing much more to say other than up and onward to the Mariners. A must win before our season plumits to the depths of the horror that was last year.

Bring back Bulut. The guy could finish, no doubt with him on the end of the plethora of chances we create we would be punishing but until we get someone able to shoot *****, the pied piper will have to do.

Our finishing isn't great, in my opinion, the bigger issue is the quality of the chances we create and our less than ideal final third set up and options.

We play too flat up front and lack movement, to name a couple.

    ******* gutted.

The highs of our equaliser, and then the lows of their last minute steal.

I ******* hate losing to these wankers.

I hope that Popa starts on the game plan to win the 3rd Derby, tonight!

I want revenge when we get to Allianz.

Them and their plastic, copycat fans are the 'Joke of the A-League'.

    I met Manfred.

I held part of a stolen tifo, StPeters predicted it would make an appearance - funny that.

I saw people on the march who have been banned for 10 years, wtf do they do when we get to the ground ?

I was keen on pointing the finger at the pyromaniacs then someone near me let them off, I guess they'll always be a part of the A League.

I watched my team dominate but lose - again, and I'm sick to death of it.

3 points next week absolutely no excuses.

True ok but if our finishing is to clinical were are our go specialist as in our araon mooys vitor Saba Shannon Coles ect or strikers like Santalabs or jurics that can get on the end of crosses

The reddy dilemma is a tough one, the issue is that this guy seems to have one bad clanger a game & this was no different.

    First goal:

Not too much that he could have done, we should have cleared the first ball but the ball found its way into 6 yard area. Should he have got the ball? It's very difficult when there is 6 players infront of you & a header from a metre out means that it was close to impossible to stop. Not Reddy's fault but defenders should have cleared it first time.

    Second goal:

Reddy comes for a ball that is lobbed into box. The problem was that he came halfway out & was stuck in no mans land. As soon as that happens I feared the worst, he either has to come for it or stay on his line. I applaud him for trying yo command his box but it's just not good enough. True to his word, he made the one stuff up that he usually makes & unfortunately it led to a goal.

    What does Popa do?

    - Does he drop him for a game? Maybe a bit of a wake up call he needs?

    - Does he drop him for 5/6 games? Maybe but would absolutely kill his confidence

    Tough call either way

Why is a team coached by a former world class defender so ******* awful at defending set pieces?

    Why?

**** me dead this loss hurts. We should have been all over this one, and yet we have to put up with them happily sing "**** off Western Sydney scum" on our own turf.

    Gutted.

    • Interesting sequence of events that probably doesn't happen very often.
    • Best shown by a chance Toure had when an Indonesian player had fallen over, he had a simple ball about 10 meters that would have put one of our attackers clean through for a one on one. He over-hit it and ruined the chance. Also falling for the same old Asian team diving & time wasting, by giving away stupid fouls to let them fall over and sit on the ground for minutes. 11 minutes stoppage time is probably half what it deserved.
    • Yet again, a failure of pace and power football over technically skilled football in on display in the Olyroos vs Indonesia.  We need to develop skills over pace at all levels
