  • Sydney FC Steal Last Parramatta Derby

    mack

Two set piece goals were enough to give a stubborn Sydney FC the victory in the Sydney Derby tonight.

The last Sydney Derby before Parramatta Stadium is knocked down was won by the visitors, despite being dominated in terms of possession and territory, took full advantage of two set piece opportunities while the Wanderers once again spent the majority of the game kicking the ball around the penalty box and not shooting.

Sydney FC launched a corner that went beyond the back post, was headed back in before being turned in by Jacques Faty. Their goal secured, Sydney FC parked a flotilla of buses, getting all 11 men deep into their own half in an ultra defensive display of stubborn anti-football.

Dario Vidosic managed to bring the game back to 1-1 with a superb curling effort before the hour mark. It looked like only one team could go on to win the match, but it was not to be.

When Topor-Stanley hauled down an attacker after letting him run far too close to the Wanderers penalty area, Sydney FC fired in a free kick that was once again knocked back down, this time for substitute Shane Smeltz to smash home unmarked at the start of stoppage time.

In most sports, a team who are dominant in terms of possession, territory and quality will win comfortably against the inferior team, as weight of scoring chances eventually tells to produce the expected result.

Football is not like most sports.

No, I mean as the conductors of Active support it is partially a responsibility to get the rest of the stadium to get involved. The RBB wanted the song to go over the PA to get the crowd involved and when the trumpet started etc, were out of time and singing at their own tempo. What was heard then were three versions of the song. The PA, the side stands and the RBB.

Surely, if you have the song going over the PA, you guys should sing it to the tune and tempo so that everyone else can follow and not go off and do your own thing just because you are the 'RBB'

i am curious however what did you mean by again it is about the rbb?? do you mean the chant is about us?

im just going to say this. the RBB 'leadership group' at no stage pushed for glorious or anything like that. It was included in the initial voting process by the club and YOU the general public voted for it

I can guarantee you, most of the votes for that walkout song would of come from people who sit in the grandstands

We as the leadership group weren't a fan of it at all but the club ran with it

END OF ******* STORY - I AM SICK OF PEOPLE SAYIING RBB SHOULD DO THIS, RBB SHOULD DO THAT

Piss off. This flogs views are not representative of Penrith's in the slightest.

Anyone care to start up a "gofundme" to relocate this flog to some deadbeat area in ESFC's paddock? Tent City outside Central station comes to mind....

What was the preference of the leadership group Dukes?

Turn the music off and let the RBB do their thing.
I'm all for that too. I'm sick of this walkout song thing, it's been discussed to the point that's it feels like a chore.

If the whole stadium learn the lyrics and sing it proud like the RBB do 'Glorious' is ******* unique and powerful!

so finally read all of this

Umm, so I was watching the derby from Melbourne and it was frustrating to see all the chances missed - but we definitely were the better team, it's just that that night didn't end our way.

One of the last times a similar sort of thing unfolded was in a certain 2nd leg of a certain continental club championship Final a couple of years ago...

    that's football

Part of the issue is that the tempo changes so much every week. At the Derby when the trumpet started over the loud speaker, the tempo was set, then when the RBB started it took all of 15 seconds for the tempo to speed up. Suddenly you were faster than what came over the loud speaker, you lost the stands and once again, it was about the RBB..

I doubt having lyrics on the big screen would make a difference. This chant doesn't deserve to be a walk out song as it's just not good enough and we really need to stop flogging a dead horse. Let's just move on, not worry about a walkout song and you never know, something might just happen out of the blue.

The clubs not doing it right if you ask me.

Glorious needs to be re-recorded and as much as it makes me cringe we may have to get the lyrics up on the screen like karaoke for a few times :angrycovic:

    Yes to the first comment.

Putting the words on the screen, I my opinion, won't endear it to people in the stands....as has been said so many times here before.
