  • Tiki Taka Gets Gombau Nada

    mack

Adelaide crashed out of the Premiership race after going down to 10 men and conceding twice to lose 2-1 to a Mark Bridge inspired Western Sydney Wanderers.

Adelaide United opened the scoring a minute from half-time, neat interplay between Tarek Elrich & Cameron Watson produced a rolling ball across the top of the box that Sergio Cirio smashed a first time shot into the top right corner of Ante Covic's goal.

The game changed on the hour mark as a result of a determined run by Mateo Poljak. The Wanderers defensive midfielder stormed past a trio of Adelaide midfielders, then sliced their last line of defence apart with a pinpoint through ball for Bridge. The all time highest goal-scorer for Western Sydney was playing in his 200th A-League match and his well timed run caught Nigel Boogard off guard, the central defender hacking down Bridge from behind for a clear penalty and after consultation with the linesman, a red card. Juric made no mistake with the spot kick to put the Wanderers level and with the man advantage.

Bridge marked his milestone with the matchwinner in the 73rd minute. Juric won a free kick on the left wing, although his attempt at a power drive from a Takahagi lay-off hit an onrushing defender, the bounce favoured Takahagi, allowing him to lob it back into the mixer. Juric helped the ball on, over the Adelaide defence. Bridge reacted first, and after one bounce he smashed a volley into the bottom corner.

All in all, Adelaide were punished for their reckless tackling, their entire outfield defensive unit accumulating a total of 5 yellow cards along with the red to Boogaard, their tiki-taka reduced to little more than passing between their defenders before humping long balls across to the other side of the field.

With one round to play, the Wanderers will play disgraced cheaters Perth, hoping to match or better the result of fellow cellar dwellers Newcastle, who play away against Brisbane Roar.

The Wanderers next match is against Kashima Antlers in the Asian Champions League, on Tuesday the 21st of April.

"And if the reports that Bulut's attitude is similar to Saba"

Whats the source for this statement?

The truth is these statements always get thrown about as if people are insiders and know whats happening. They dont. Its all just speculation.

    I'd call it gossip.

    bunch of bored old ladies.

^^^ I tried to start some gossip last night but no one bit.  I saw Gombau shaking hands and talking to Juric and posed the question whether he might be making an offer for his services.  I wonder if I had put in Bulut instead of Juric whether I might have hooked some fish.

Did anyone notice Adelaides set up in the first half? when WSW had the ball, United set up in a square formation, basically 2 players up front holding up the WSW player with the ball, another 2 united players right behind them, like a square, then there was always that 5th United playing sneaking, they shut us down really good

that first half was bad, WSW thinking about Tuesday and United just didnt want to lose...

    • First half was hard work to watch. Boring as...

    • Great run by Mateo and the game changed from there on in

I took the tifo to mean the club need to spend some money and keep Kerem but others around me thought it was a dig at him for wanting more money so...

Aspro looks so composed. We need to get him to sign a contract (if he hasn’t already)

Bridge's first touch to take the ball into the area and get the penalty was classy as was his finish for the winner.

Hopefully we can keep Tanaka and the left back spot is sorted.

It's going to be torrential rain on Tuesday night, and cold with a biting wind. This will sort out the dedicated from the so-so  (i'm on jury duty next week too so if we win I might be more inclined to be lenient!!)

People saying we were lucky to win.

If Tomi hit the ball like he did off that free kick in the first two minutes of the game, the ball hit a bird and went in, then we won 1-0, I couldn't care less.

Great teams win those games and we are better than great.

We are the greatest team in Asia

What is the kick up about the RBB banner?

It was just a simple attempt to try and keep our Auburn boy here where he belongs. Or was there another meaning?

Yeah these were my thoughts too...

club's fans want to keep local player who is popular and good at football.

    What's the controversy?

Adelaide (and takahagi as well) lucky that cirio (?) didn't get sent off for that two footer. Looked bad on replay. And then he had the gall to have a whinge at the ref.

That looked really ugly, remember thinking it looked a lot worse than the one Saba got a red for early in the season which was supposedly a career ending style tackle.  Flew in with studs raised aimed at the leg.  Was very lucky it wasn't a red as it should have been.

I liked our new song Red and Black Forever It is slow seduction and our best since Call to Arms. I liked that we continued it through the half time break. The 15 minute version of the song about Dale went on a bit long but I guess it was to encourage us all to learn the words. Two drummers moving to the front of 56 was an interesting two strikers up front formation that worked on the night. Don't know much about what happened on the pitch xcept never knew 4 yellows and a red was Barca style football.

That is the biggest pile of steaming bs I have heard in a while.

The reason ade get so many yellows is because they employ a deliberate strategy of tactical fouling.

They know they will have most of the possession and teams will try to hit them on the break so they foul early on in the opponent's counter attack.

brazil, barca etc all use a similar strategy.

    - Bulut banner was for Lederer and the others to pull their fingers out and give him more dollars (there's no denying he's been one of our better players even though he's only played 10 or so games).

    - Isias is a little bitch. F*** the c***

    - Boogaard now has 6 red cards, one more that Kevin "The Butcher" Muscat.

    - Fitting that Bridge scored the winner on his 200th game (criticize him as you will, he delivered the other night).

    - The girl that fainted was right behind me (two of us drummers moved to the front as a test to get more sound around) and she was carried out by that bald headed f*** of a seccie who knocked me over amongst others as he was pushing people out of the way aggressively. Gronk. She is all good now.

Should Newcastle lose or draw on Friday night against Brisbane we could lose and finish 9th on goal difference but a win against the cheats will see us finish a few points above.

Not many people around me knew why all of a sudden RBB were shouting out Bridge, luckily I knew it was his milestone 200th game and guessed it was for that, I may have been seeing this, I think even Bridge himself looked back at one stage lol

100% agree with all of this, I will admit that the referee was quick to his pocket for one of the fouls but when you've got players doing two footed lunges, body checking or taking out players just outside the box they've got nothing to complain about! When you end up with 7 cards it's no accident, but complaining that bridge was offside when replays showed he was on? Please! They've taken up the Annie inferiority complex!

It's a hard knock life man.

Doesn't matter if Bridge was offside or not (he wasn't), he was brought down by a thug.

Boogard knew exactly what he'd done. Didn't complain or anything, he just waited to receive his card. He knew he was guilty.

Bridges goal was actually some quality work from the linesman cause there was 1 or 2 of our players who were offside EXCEPT FOR Bridge and rightly so he allowed the play to continue.

    Sore losers.

One thing that no one has picked up on is that Tomi's chipped pass over the Add U defenders into the path of Bridge was absolutely glorious.

    Shinji-esque

Wish we saw more of that this season...

There was two quick touches in succession before Bridge got the ball for his goal. The second one was Tomi's touch with his foot to loop it over the defence for Bridge. At that point Bridge was not offside (although there was another player who was passively offside). However the first touch was a header (I think) which went quickly to Tomi's foot allowing him to loop it over the defence for Bridge. At that first touch Bridge was offside. However he walked back in time to get onside before Tomi looped it over for him (with the second touch) for the goal. No doubt Adelaide will try to use that first touch as evidence of the offside.

Also the penalty was just enough of a touch to earn a penalty. Remember Boogard went down and committed to the challenge. As soon as you do that you are automatically risking it (eg Lucas Neill in World Cup 2006). Boogard could have just let Bridge go and Galekovic probably would have blocked Bridge's attempt on goal lol. But he took the risk and that is what happens.

I also think Adelaide have a short memory where they beat us by a 1-0 in a game last season where the ball went out of play just before the goal. They are definitely the biggest whingers. Very Spanish like with players crowding and surrounding the referee trying to get the decision to go their way.

Haha he did look back while waiting for the corner to be taken and he was like wtf I didn't score why they calling me. Wasn't till later I realized it was his 200th game.

Anyone got a pic of the bulut tifo as I got there late, now rbb should do on for Yojirio and one thing that may play a part for Bulut's low contract offer is he is a liability off the field and some at the club would be happy to see him leave.

Anyone else notice the amart mascot sort of looks like the primo one, the chick escorting it was more of an attention grabber than it.

Bridge not offside. No surprises for guessing who was though :cheeky:

This photo pretty much shows why we are a shambles as a team unit. I know we ended up scoring the goal, but it could have turned out much differently. We pretty much in this picture have 6 players bunched in and around the box. Adelaide have 5 defending in the box. Bunched in and around the box we have both our left and right fullbacks??

Adelaide also have 3 players waiting just outside the box for a quick counter (they were playing with 10 men at this stage). So if Adelaide had got the ball from Tomi and went on the counter it would have been 4 v 3 up the other end of the field (and there would have been a big space in the middle of the park). Notice that the WSW player on the left (Takahagi) would have had a lot of distance to cover. He is not that quick either. No wonder Adelaide had so many chances at the end. It seemed like every player in our team wanted to score. It also shows why we score a lot of goals up the middle, because we simply crowd the centre of the box and hope we can get vital touches that lead to goal.

We really lack any structure or shape in the way we attack, and it seems that in the photo below that some players like running to the other side of the field to get to the ball. What a waste of energy.
