  • Wanderers Lose To Mariners

    mack

An early goal to Josh Rose saw the Central Coast Mariners win 1-0 in Gosford tonight.

A cheap turnover by Romeo Castelen gave Anthony Kalik the opportunity to slice the Wanderers defence open with a throughball that found fullback Rose, and he made no mistake slotting past Dean Bouzanis at the near post.

The rest of the game was the usual Wanderers style this season, getting into the opposition area before going back to the keeper and losing possession, or firing long balls to the likes of Bulut & Castelen, who were monstered by the giant central defensive pairing of Bosnar & Anderson.

On occasion the Wanderers did manage to fire at goal, their shooting was wayward, half off target and none that ever really gave Liam Reddy a hard time. One of the few times they did trouble the Mariners keeper, he came flying out of his area to meet Alusine Fofanah, and managed to block the shot with his head.

A neat encapsulation of the Wanderers display came late on when Anthony Golec had a chance to make an overlapping run, called for the ball, but inexplicably stopped as the pass was delivered, finding himself unable to make up the ground on the well placed pass and seeing it run out for a goal kick.

Two events that stood out apart from the action itself were the deubt of Shayne D'Cunha as a late substitute for Sam Gallaway, and Ante Covic managing to get himself booked while sitting on the bench.

Western Sydney's next match is against Adelaide United at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday the 17th of April, kick-off at 5:30pm.

We have won an ACL game with it! But yes, it must go. Time to go back to the concept design thread and find some good designs!

Hmmm.... we drew the ACL final away (AH), drew the semi final away (Seoul), lost the quarter final away (GZ), lost the round of 16 away (Hiroshima).

In fact we have only won 2x ACL games in those colours - group stages, Ulsan & Guizhou - which is pretty ridiculous considering we won the champions league.

edit: Actually wait... those group stage wins were in red & white. So we have only won one ACL game vs Kashima

there's prob the same restrictions as amount of instruments in the rbb, mariners are unlimited going of that video, although lately the 2nd trumpet  has been working wanders, we are getting closer to get the right tune of lambada going

I see what you did there.

I know it'll never happen, but a few instruments down the south end of the stadium would be awesome - the slight delay makes everyone fall out of time when they want to join in the chants. Also it would help to drown out away support haha.

I vote for a public burning of all white Wanderers away jerseys in an attempt to exercise the obvious evil spirits that possess them..

I've hated that thing since the start, and much like Grandpa Simpson's tonic, it's brought us nothing but trouble. Get rid of it!!!

I stood 2 rows behind the trumpets at the fc Seoul game and still heard people defiantly belting out something else

Anyway, let the mariners have whatever band they want. The more support and variety at the football, the better. Just thank God its not at our home games.

they had me change my view about them up until the 3rd minute of that video, were they said they didn't get paid for "travel expenses" to away matches, and they received limited funds from the club to keep their instruments serviced, replaced etc.

YELLOW ARMY, chip in and get sum funds happening for your band! :cheeky:

I really don't get it - what exactly is the problem with the brass band? So they read off sheet music... Doesn't the RBB follow a rigid set-list and the iron fist of the capos?

I'd love to see a brass band, or at least a few instruments, at Parramatta. Even if it's just a cameo appearance once per half (but during different chants at each game), I'd be bloody happy. Who knows, they could even provide a mid-chant burst when the RBB is in the middle of yet another epic chant. Something like that might actually get the rest of the stands to join back in, rather than do what we do at present and twiddle our thumbs until the next chant starts.

In closing, I love the brass band, and I hope that the RBB considers a broader range of instruments for next season (if the excessive security conditions allow it, of course).

hmmm. on the surface a seemingly constructive post but read more closely and it contains 3 or 4  thinly veiled snarky comments at the rbb or wsw fans. where have we seen that before?????

ok its time someone asked the question.

    are you PARRASFC in disguise?

Didn't they say they didn't get paid by the Mariners..... but they get funded by the club and by sponsorship for instruments (how many times do trumpets need replacing I'd like to know) and music (there's that sheet music again.... Ffs, like slaves to the page) and travel.

And then the entire last section is just a glorified ad, weddings, parties, anything. .. just write us a cheque.

As someone else said it's better than nowt and I'm sure it's appreciated by many up there and good for the kids and community whatnot. But when you have comparisons being made, without these major differences in approach, attitude, and sound being acknowledged. ... haha. I shut up now.

I've got to say that these long jams with the build up of instruments is definitely the way to go. I like how this starts with just the drums, then some more percussion comes in, then the melody of the trumpet which signifies the tune, and finally the singing. I think doing it this way also stretches out one singular chant and it doesn't seem like a song list set of chants you do. It seems like a party which is continuos and ongoing. A singular chant like this could go on and on for 10 minutes and sound good.

The next step would be to get rid of the awkward/silent pauses between chants and move from one to another with no pause. Then you are really mastering the ultimate samba party!

Bulut's passion and intensity upfront was great to watch. Plenty of opportunities but frustrating not seeing any goals hit the back of the net.

Wait, what's with the big debate about La Banda and CCM's brass band? Am I missing something? Lol

    p.s. Love Ronaldinho's dancing gif :D

There is no debate Shakey you know that

But Brenton speed made comparisons as if we were following in their footsteps or something.

And some people seem to think a comparison is valid ie they have drums and brass so it's the same thing.

    Gets me cranky

Oh okay, seems like I'm really late to the party then haha but I know for sure that we were here before they popped up. Especially after taking over their stadium with that famous rainy 1-0 victory and literally shook their stadium ;)

(no seriously, that stadium was bouncing!)

I bailed after the tenth shot of a dozen people 'marching'.

    So about a minute in.
