  • Wanderers Smash Glory, Reclaim 2nd Spot

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have turned their AFC Champions League form toward the A-League by trouncing Perth Glory 3-0, in a win that reclaimed second position and the vital ACL Direct Entry slot that comes with finishing the season there.

The triple treat was kicked off minutes before half-time when Jerome Polenz scored the goal the Wanderers dominance of the half deserved. His second goal in the A-League was a solo effort that began by running at Clisby, then when Jacob Burns blocked his initial shot, it bobbled favourably for the headbanded fullback, as he juggled with the knee before firing a shot that the Glory keeper couldn't keep out.

Mark Bridge secured the three point for Western Sydney on the hour mark. A turnover in midfield gave ample opportunity to run at Davies the Perth right fullback, and in typical Bridge fashion he cut inside, faked the young defender into giving him room for a shot, which he duly smashed to the far post, giving Duncan no chance to make a save.

Crowd favourite Tomi Juric put the sealer on the event with 13 to play, Ono & Hersi combining to put the right winger into the penalty box, before Hersi laid it off to Juric. One touch put the ball into the right spot for a powerful strike into the top right corner.

Perth were as dismal as their 10th place on the A-League ladder suggests, the Wanderers barely getting out of second gear yet still comfortably beating their opponents. With a full week break before the vital clash against the Mariners in Gosford, victory at Parramatta should set the stage for the Wanderers to claim second spot, as they now lead the competition for that place by 2 goals with three games to play.

The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 29th of March, in Gosford, kick-off 5:30PM.

WanderLand 2012/13 = Fun times! WsW & RBB fairy-tale of Aussie sport.

WanderLand 2013/14 = a Prison! Riot squad? Really?

Let’s just get one thing straight, this is all the fault of the FFA!

Anybody that thinks otherwise is gullible enough to think that the Malaysian Airlines plane might still turn up.

This whole situation is a disgrace and upsets me to think it is happening in broad daylight in a country I was born in and love! Week in, week out we are treated no better than criminals with no justification. This has and will continue to turn people away from what was the success story of sport in Aus only a year ago.

I have long loved this sport, from waking up with my dad to watch Italia 90, to attending Jenson park every 2nd Sunday as a kid, driving to Melb in our ****-box VH with my bro and old man to see the disaster of ’97, through to tears upon qualification in ’05 and attended both ’06 and ’10 WC’s in person. It all came together on 25-Jul-12 when the team it seemed I had waited my whole life for finally took the field in St Mary’s with a handful of contracted players. The high’s on and off the pitch last season, followed by the low’s off the pitch this year, culminating in Sundays new low.

It make me sick in the gut whenever I see the hatamoto bulldogs standing with police sharing a joke, pointing and seemingly making fun of/laughing at the supporters in the North terrace – it’s a disgrace! This culture is now set and will be almost impossible to change. The police should make people feel safe, not intimidated. They view it as an US vs THEM which will not end well for WsW. Don’t get me started on hatamoto… who pays them again?

One disgraceful thing that I saw happen, not once, but twice at the game way a security guard throw an object over the middle of Bay 56 after the first and third goals. Looked like a scrunched up piece of paper/cup. I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time it happened and convinced myself that it hadn’t. Then when it happened again after the 3rd goal I was bewildered. It’s as though he tossed it in order to get a reaction from somebody and then use that as an excuse to kick them out. I took a photo of the guy afterwards and am open to suggestions as to what I should do about this? I had an older mate with me who also saw the incident both times.

A football club without supporters is nothing. The flow on effects will be there for all to see with a dwindling in the membership base next season. People will only put up with being treated like criminals by the ffa sponsored militia for so long.

    Shame David Gallop!

    Shame Damien de Bohun!

    Shame FFA!

    SHAME!

Seriously make contact with Shaun, give him a copy of the photos and also the times at which this thug of a security guard threw the objects.

If the club is serious they have access to the video footage via the security cameras. It will be seen and it will be obvious.

    Do it!!!

After contacting the club... Perhaps you can also email or get in contact with the higher ups that can spread the news around..

Les Murray, Dominic Bossi, and even Bozza come to mind...

Police with their corruption is not acceptable.

^^^^   Banana....I know you and others might find this difficult to accept, but words are POWER!  Well chosen words, directed to the right places ARE powerful.

Emails, Letters to the Editor eg of The Parramtta Advertiser,  and of letters of complaint regarding overzealous police presence can make a difference.  All sorts of changes have been made possible throughtout history as a result of people speaking out.

I agree with Wendy and Boban further up. I am contemplating writing a letter to phillip ruddock, the interior minister, john robertson, and cc FFA. The police is out of control, and I doubt that those who are meant to be in charge know what is going on. However, my letter can only refer to what I see and notice, as I haven't been on the receiving end - yet! I've only been in the NT for a couple of months. The real accounts have to come from those of you who have been wronged.

    Dear Bicentennial Banana:

Strange members lurking in North Terrace distributing flares is no basis for a system of mutual respect and cooperation.

For FFA, supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses (and the growth in crowds and support) not some farcical policing ceremony.

Instead of complaining about the violence inherent in the system, being repressed and giving up on others, let's communicate in a positive manner.

If we need to have the decisions of a particular officer reviewed and ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting, then so be it!

If things have got out of hand, respectful discussion can be our solution. I do not believe that the Holy Grail we are all searching for is out of reach!

MOD NOTE: It was a great game, we won and took 3 points we deserved. We all know the issues regarding excessive policing in not only the RBB area but the East and Western stands.

I think this thread has gone on long enough and has been de-railed.

Lets remember that even though we may not agree with everyone here, that these Colours Unite Us All.
