  • Wanderers Throw Away Three Points

    mack

Perth Glory have come from behind in a storming 4 goal second half to defeat the Western Sydney Wanderers 3-2 in Perth tonight.

It was the same old tale for Western Sydney this season, throwing away golden chances with defensive lapses gifting their opposition goals, marking the 6th time this season the Wanderers have scored first but still lost the match.

Romeo Castelen opened the scoring in the 13th minute, getting onto the end of a lofted through ball from Iacopo La Rocca and slotting it past Danny Vukovic.

Glory got back into the game after the break, Dino Djulbic crossing on his right foot into the box Yusuke Tanaka's attempted clearance bounced off his head and back towards the goal. Five of the Wanderers defence stood stock still or ran off to halfway, leaving Aspropotamitis one on one against Richard Garcia, Garcia getting the better of the young central defender and his nod back across goal saw the unmarked Sidnei with an opportunity he couldn't and didn't miss.

Perth took the lead 67 minutes in through Rostyn Griffiths, a simple in-swinging corner that Ante Covic flew out of his goal to try and punch, only to be beaten by Griffiths with La Rocca unable to do anything to prevent Griffiths heading home.

Wanderers talisman Kerem Bulut hit back immediately, Perth tarrying on the ball deep in their own half. Chris Harold was forced into a loose pass that went straight to La Rocca, he found Bulut in acres of space, his calm sidefoot finish left Vukovic with no chance.

Josh Risdon won the game for the Glory with 2 minutes of regulation to go. He powered through the midfield, beating Steve Kuzmanovski for pace, with neither Jason Trifiro or La Rocca electing to close him down the winger blasted a rocket into the top corner of the goal that not even a full length dive by Covic could keep out.

The Wanderers next match is against Melbourne City on Friday the 3rd of April at Parramatta Stadium.

Throwing the game away perfect description for what I just witnessed.

Pretty good first half both going forward and defence. second half very ordinary in defence  2 of their three goals due to very poor defending , also giving far too many balls  away again in midfield.  Fortunately for us Glory defending even worse at times.  Plenty of chances not taken AGAIN ,  we could of had at least 2 or 3 more  ,  the  Haliti miss well my dead mother could have scored that one !!!.  Topor very flat had a poor game , I reckon both our Japanese players had a poor game too.  Our travelling Fans deserve better than that .

They were definitely not the better team and definitely not going progress in the finals based on this display

just when we thought we might be on a winning streak ...

That was total crap. The game was crap, Perth were crap and our crap outdid their crap. After our first two seasons, it's really hard to believe we've fallen so far. In season 1 & 2 we would have made that lot look like state level. Now depressingly that's what we look like. How can full time professional footballers deliver that level of rubbish?  Ruka... show him the door asap.... the guy has a football brain the size of a pea and the finesse of a hippo.  Bulut lovers... granted he works hard but he's clumsy, slow and second rate... misses way too many very good  chances. Haliti... weak as piss. Galloway... D grade.  At times this season  La Rocca's distribution has been  a joke. NTS looks like  he’s psychologically running on empty. Tanaka has to tighten up... too much loose stuff. Takahagi's not too far behind Tanaka in the slackness side of things. Covic… wtf is wrong with him? He’s  in never never land. Apart from Aspro, who is very promising, Castelen is the only one who looks like he knows how to play the game.

    • Without trying to be an immensly massive knob, and I say this to someone who's opinion I respect a lot on here, thats absolutely not true. Theres a large pile studies on the impact of player performance post ACL injuries. I'm happy to have discussion about it thats evidence based, though the post game may not be the best place. We are here solely to bemoan our current standings aren't we?  That all said, I dont think Tate has any real future with his current output. He's been back at it for a season and is only showing decline
    • Not sure.  Will decide at the last minute but doubtful after todays performance.
    • With all due respect, I can't remember Tate ever putting in a decent 90min.
