  • Wanderers Throw Away Three Points

    mack

Perth Glory have come from behind in a storming 4 goal second half to defeat the Western Sydney Wanderers 3-2 in Perth tonight.

It was the same old tale for Western Sydney this season, throwing away golden chances with defensive lapses gifting their opposition goals, marking the 6th time this season the Wanderers have scored first but still lost the match.

Romeo Castelen opened the scoring in the 13th minute, getting onto the end of a lofted through ball from Iacopo La Rocca and slotting it past Danny Vukovic.

Glory got back into the game after the break, Dino Djulbic crossing on his right foot into the box Yusuke Tanaka's attempted clearance bounced off his head and back towards the goal. Five of the Wanderers defence stood stock still or ran off to halfway, leaving Aspropotamitis one on one against Richard Garcia, Garcia getting the better of the young central defender and his nod back across goal saw the unmarked Sidnei with an opportunity he couldn't and didn't miss.

Perth took the lead 67 minutes in through Rostyn Griffiths, a simple in-swinging corner that Ante Covic flew out of his goal to try and punch, only to be beaten by Griffiths with La Rocca unable to do anything to prevent Griffiths heading home.

Wanderers talisman Kerem Bulut hit back immediately, Perth tarrying on the ball deep in their own half. Chris Harold was forced into a loose pass that went straight to La Rocca, he found Bulut in acres of space, his calm sidefoot finish left Vukovic with no chance.

Josh Risdon won the game for the Glory with 2 minutes of regulation to go. He powered through the midfield, beating Steve Kuzmanovski for pace, with neither Jason Trifiro or La Rocca electing to close him down the winger blasted a rocket into the top corner of the goal that not even a full length dive by Covic could keep out.

The Wanderers next match is against Melbourne City on Friday the 3rd of April at Parramatta Stadium.

That was total crap. The game was crap, Perth were crap and our crap outdid their crap. After our first two seasons, it's really hard to believe we've fallen so far. In season 1 & 2 we would have made that lot look like state level. Now depressingly that's what we look like. How can full time professional footballers deliver that level of rubbish?  Ruka... show him the door asap.... the guy has a football brain the size of a pea and the finesse of a hippo.  Bulut lovers... granted he works hard but he's clumsy, slow and second rate... misses way too many very good  chances. Haliti... weak as piss. Galloway... D grade.  At times this season  La Rocca's distribution has been  a joke. NTS looks like  he’s psychologically running on empty. Tanaka has to tighten up... too much loose stuff. Takahagi's not too far behind Tanaka in the slackness side of things. Covic… wtf is wrong with him? He’s  in never never land. Apart from Aspro, who is very promising, Castelen is the only one who looks like he knows how to play the game.

    wtf???

First of all, Bulut has been our most clinical striker this season.  5 goals in 5 games. Hes not slow nor is he 2nd rate.

Galloway is only there to cover injuries and he's 3rd choice.

And did you even see the pass from la rocca to castelan for the first goal?

Takahagi and Tanaka Have been quite average but these guys arrived mid season playing in more of a physical league compared to the J-League. They both need a proper pre season with us and you will see a lot better from them

    ???

We've played a lot worse this season. A lot worse. Genuinely didn't deserve to lose that one, but again we fall asleep at key moments and concede stupid goals, and don't finish our own chances. Haliti's miss pretty much summed up our season. Bulut has been great, what the hell are you talking about. 5 goals in 5 games, great finishing, very good workrate and plays with passion.

Perth were very lucky to leave that game with 3 points. They will not last long in the finals.

EDIT: Rofl, I just realised you bad-mouthed La Rocca for his "distribution"...dude, he set up both of our goals. His assist for Castelen was majestic, Pirlo/Xavi-esque. If you're gonna knock La Rocca for something tonight, at least have a go at him for his poor marking of Griffiths for their 2nd goal.

he clearly say's " at times this season "... I agree, but not just La Rocca.

Ruka speed is incredible but what is speed with out control or composure,

Castelen is a great example of football brain's, unfortunately there's only one Casta

And he "clearly" meant to imply that La Rocca's distribution was poor in this game. Which it clearly wasn't.

season 1 and 2 (including the acl); we found ways to win games we should have lost.

season 3 (including the cwc); we find new ways to lose.

maybe next season with a weeks break between games popa can work on tactics for each game.

we had so many attacking moves in this game where the wrong pass was chosen.

plus, as stated many times on this forum, shoot *****!

I meant in other games AND in this game. Yes you are right, he set up the first goal with a great reverse pass but the second was a gimme from a suicidal Perth pass (if Bulut hadn't score that one I would be putting him into the same category as Ruka). Apart from that, a lot of La Rocca's distribution this season and in this game has been erratic to say the least, bordering on the lazy. I've been a fan of La Rocca, but his performances this season have been symptomatic of the team's performances. One minute looking the goods, the next minute very sloppy. There weren't many minutes of this game were we looked the goods. Perth are as crappy this season as they were last season and we beat them comfortably three times last season. Lowe said it himself in the last game at Parra last season... we were on a different level.  Of course Ono was pulling the strings in those days. We needed improvement but we've gone back the way, especially in defence and midfield.

I'm pissed about losing but I take confidence in the way we are playing our football.

Our front three press with purpose. (Especially Kerem, imagine him in full fitness). We were getting in behind their backs easily. Apart from the mistakes, which were punished, our back four had everything covered.

Our long trips are over. We can play this team again for the next two matches.

We just need to gel, play well in the ACL, and get back to the top next season.

Topor was not good at all. Really flat, and took to long to clear the ball at times.

Covic was just horrid. Caught in no mans land again. Was a a complete statue for that first goal. What's up with him? I want Hulkavic back. I mean that goal kick to the side...something's just not right.

Asproboy was my pick of the team. His work defensive work is outstanding. He latches on to opposition and forces errors or just plain takes the ball and redistributes it setting up counters. Loving watching him come out and grow into the team. He's really earning his spot.

Bulut is a goal scorer and will improve more as he plays more. He still needs to compose himself a little I think but geez it's exciting watching him. Castelen - sublime. He's a natural, just gifted.

Taka had a pretty flat game as well I thought. Some weak passes. He's got skill and vision but needs to get used to the physicality of our league.

Over all, first half we put out a winning team. Second half we put out a team lacking self belief (for the most part).

Press high. Allow midfield the opportunity to take more chances with low short quick passes.

has popa lost it. we took both kelmar and perkatis to both brisbane and perth  and none got minutes. at least the sqaud should have been freshened  up a little. we r playing our ACM jap guy as a dM what a waste when we have kalmar and perkatis there. i dont understand the value of haliti on the park and also bringing on trifrio . NTs has to go or get him to change his style of football. Aspro not ready for the big games as get why to soft in going forward.

I agree with almost all of this, people defending La Rocca for one or two good passes in a match when he plays in teh centre of midfield is ridiculous, on a number of occassions he just lumped the ball anywhere, I thought he was very poor. With regards to Ruka, he cannot get his head up at speed, in the first half he broke away and ended up playing a ball to Bulut in front of him when Haliti was wide open on his right, terrible decision, particularly as Bulut had a marker right on top of him. My only disagreement is with Bulut, who I agree is clumsy but the fact that it could be related to fatigue is why I am willing to keep giving him chances, and becoming our top goal scorer in the league this season deserves more time to progress. We have used a lot of players this season i just hope that popa and the clubs management can see that a lot of them are not up to standard and move them on. lastly and probably sadly, our ACL hero Ante Covic should not play again this season barring injury to Bouzanis, some of his decision making in the last few games has been appalling and we need to look to the future

Considering how poorly we have played in some games this season, I really didn't think last night was that bad.

I think it's also because we aren't playing for anything.

If we were Perth and playing for top spot, I'd probably be more upset.

Also, Bulut's celebration is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

yeah agree with lookers - not that bad. if we take our chances we win comfortably.

I hadn't watched perth for a while but wow they look like a neil warnock team - 'get it in the ******* mixer!' is the extent of the tactics i think. prehistoric football. I hope they get pummelled in the playoffs - we really don't want other teams in the league to think that its a successful way to play.

Wasn't it Tanaka's bad header that led to their first goal, not Haliti?

Maybe, I think Haliti was around there

The over reaction by some after losses is why I struggle to get on here as often these days.

Some of you must be bloody awesome managers because you seem to know it all and your bitch levels are Arnold-esque.

yeah this for sure (although it doesn't stop me coming on the site lol)

the fact that we are still competitive and only losing by the odd goal (aside from victory game), still playing hard for the manager etc is a minor miracle considering the schedule, the travel, the number of players injured, the number of players we have had to use this season, number of players likely to leave the club at the end of the season etc etc

think of the other teams that have been this bad in the a-league - knights, fury, gc etc they were a shambles both on the pitch and off of it and most were on death row. imo we have stayed very professional and competitive which says a lot about popa and the coaches.

Bulut the best striker since foundation, Tyson should of been our #1 this season, Ruka's pace unbelievable but makes to many wrong choices I think Popa will sort him out.I don't blame Top or for any of this he plays just about every game and every game has a different partnership.Covic and Haliti should call it a day end of season. Looking forward to the next campaign and to forget about the last one.

That loss was overshadowed by that wird winged woman..WTF was that about, like some LSD throw back to the 70`s.

    Haliti missing that shot..my god.

One thing im not a fan of is players throwing their arms up when they dont get that pass they want etc..watching Haliti and Bulut play is like a windge fest sometimes..everyone makes mistakes

The winged warrior woman mascot was as dated as Perth. Glad she was there cause it made them even more perplexed about the madness that showed up on their doorstep.

    Thread title says it all.

Mack's getting so good he don't need lengthy diatribes. Just headlines. The new black.

Good to see the usual suspects soul searching again, blaming everyone and everything associated with the Western Sydney Wanderers name after a game we only just lost.

    SACK

    EVERYBODY!

    Classic

But how many times have we 'just lost'? A loss is a loss, believe it or not, and our season of 'just losing' has the team equal bottom on points. I'm amazed that the pitchforks haven't appeared, to be honest.

Edit: as for me, I'd like the coach to have another half season to turn things around. Hopefully it can be a half season of minimal disruption, too (and if that means tanking in the ACL to come good in the A-League, so be it).

At least we're looking like a team with some shape in the last 2 games. We've now lost twice in Perth to late goals but to be honest we were a shambles in the first game but infinitely better last night. I'm sure there will be changes next season but still much to enthuse about.
