  • Western Sydney Dominate Derby But Draw

    mack

Western Sydney should have all three points but slack finishing saw them draw as Bernie Ibini equalised after Tomi Juric gave the Wanderers the lead.

After a quarter hour the Wanderers could have gone ahead if the A-League shared the goal line technology as seen in the Brazil World Cup. Romeo Castelen tore through the heart of the Sydney FC defence and fired a shot that deflected in towards goal, replays showing the ball almost surely was over the line but with no signal from the linesman the referee decided to play on.

On the half hour the Wanderers took a deserved lead. In tight quarters Castelen lobbed a pass to the chest of Juric, who flicked out a right boot to push the ball into the path of Mark Bridge. Unfortunately for Bridge the ball didn't sit up well enough to get a shot away, a block from Sydney FC defender Gersbach only found the feet of Juric who blasted home from 8 yards to open the scoring in the derby.

Nikita Rukavytsya came inches away from doubling the Wanderers advantage just moments after the first goal. Bridge played a delightful through ball for the flying winger and he toed the ball past keeper Janjetovic but could only watch as it arced in towards goal only to bounce off the woodwork.

A breathless 5 minutes was then punctuated by the equaliser. The Wanderers wasted a set piece opportunity with a woeful short corner, Sydney FC managed to clear to Bernie Ibini who ran half the pitch, getting around Adeleke and Hamill before launching a tracer bullet of a shot that was past Covic before he could get a hand up.

Seconds before the half-time break Bridge should have restored the Wanderers lead. Iacopo La Rocca put Bridge clean through one one one with Janjetovic but his first touch took him slightly away from goal and the shot was aimed straight at the keeper.

Shane Smeltz had Sydney FC's best chance in the second half, a header back across goal from a corner was met with a turning volley by the New Zealand international but Covic rose sharply to tip the ball over the bar.

Rukavytsya had his own chances to win the game for his new club and score his first goal for the Wanderers in the process, his blinding pace saw him get in on goal twice, the first a long range effort he could only aim at Janjetovic, the second saw him burst clear of Seb Ryall but his touch let Janjetovic get a sniff of the ball, smothering any chance of a goal.

The Wanderers dominated the match as Sydney FC seemed content to hold on for a point. Western Sydey shaded possession 53% to 47%, with more passes, a better passing accuracy as well as having more shots, crosses and corners in comparison to their opponents in blue. Alas the key stat, goals scored, favoured neither side but the performance was a marked improvement in comparison to the first handful of rounds and if performances like that keep coming then so will wins.

The Wanderers next match is against the Brisbane Roar, on Wednesday the 3rd of December at Parramatta Stadium, kick-off at 7:30pm.

Also I've gotta be honest...thought the RBB was the quietest they've ever been at a derby. Despite what it sounds like on the coverage (watching the replay now) we were defs later in the stadium, but still pretty quiet...dunno what it was. The tifo was brilliant but think we let the boys down a bit in the stands tonight.

wish we could have a chant to counter the "city is ours one" i thought the stands looked great tonight also not as many smurfs in amongst the home areas as i expected.

It's okay guys, it's part of the plan - we lose four, then we draw four, and then we win the next nineteen :xnod:

But srsly though, we're starting to gel - and we can see that the attacking four are getting better and better, they are so going to rip anyone to shreds soon. And it'll be beautiful to watch every second.

On the plus side: we're off the bottom of the table (again)!

Our strongest lineup is up there amongst best in league. Victory probably strongest, Adelaide strong, east Sydney sttongish but struggling with injuries. As ours starts to click I see us way better than any of the other sides... Especially Perth Wtf.

The challenge will be how a heavy schedule lands...

Adeleke's one-on-one tackling ability is out of this world.
massive credit to popa and the club's scouts for seeing that in him, He's quickly becoming my favourite player

Should have won that game. Again signs are positive. We will get there.

Adeleke should have felled Ibini. Poljak was there to cover so it should have just been a yellow if he did. I say should because this is A-League and the refs... :ninja:

I'm sorry but that was a game thrown away by some selfish or slow transition play from several players who either have no idea how to take their chances, move the ball to a better positioned comrade quickly, or make space by clever positioning not just waiting for a long bomb. Spira has been tainted by spending too much time around Postecoglou because he seemed happy to keep the ball and pass to Hamill and get the ball back and keep it and pass the ball to Hamill and get it back and keep the ball...you get the idea. In the second half particularly he almost needed a royal command to get the ball forward to someone like Cole who was in space. Castelen and Saba may be heart throbs to many but ffs don't hog the freakin' ball when you can either shoot or find another player in space. Ruka looked pretty decent but again his touch seems to be that of Halloran or Leckie with a few extra years in the Bundesliga. I dunno about Adeleke, and neither Iaccopo or Matteo thrilled me or fulfilled me. Oh, and Baccus does not look like he is even half the value of Santa.

Yes, I know that quadratic-polybinomial-khuntstick Green and his prepubescent pricktard friend on the eastern sideline helped ensure we were going to struggle to win, but seriously, tonight was not good enough. We can cut slack to the guys due to the ACL result and the demands that has placed on the team. However we have now seen three home games where we should've won and won handsomely yet it's been 3 freaking draws and only 2 freaking goals. I will always follow my team and I understand we will have our times in the weeds. But when you see individual players and tactical cohesion that has regressed from say when Jerome and Youssouf tore it up on the right, or the ability Tensai had to know when to hold the ball, when to give it to someone else and when to shoot, well it's only appropriate to get the tuppeny bits.

And for anyone bitching about the RBB...unless you serve your time in there go and have a hard long look at yourself. Oh and Mick...saw you give it to the dullards with the flags and whistles from our Bay digger...much respect.

Bottom of the A & W League. Love it that we are back to being underdogs. Bay 56 limped through the Derby with some being too cool to chant or follow the capos and others tourists who just wanted to drink and smoke in the RBB instead of the RSL. I was wishing for rain to cleanse the RBB of those who sucked the oxygen out of it.

Must be a ESFC guy working sound for foxsports.

Had the levels right up on their little corner so it drowned out the bloc.

Skip to 58:30 on the game clock, you can actually hear the lone smurf mega above the entire rest of the stadium.

    Ridiculous.

We played some good football at times but as with the Newcastle game we look like we don't have the conditioning to make it last for 90 minutes. A regular pre-season usually fixes that but we have not had that luxury. We're not that many points off the top 6 and we should pick up in the New Year so no reason to panic as there were plenty of encouraging signs.

There was a moment in that second half where Saba got the ball a good few meters outside the box with space, he ran at the penna area and was it Ruka that made the run forward in to space that was **** SCREAMING out for a pass, what does Saba do, he try's to **** walk it to the goal line and the inevitable happens and he runs it too far and gives it away.

Also what the **** was the thing where someone in the penna area cut the ball backwards rather than shooting. Some really poor first touches around the box also players not on the right wavelength.

I know it is a point and we didn't get beaten but I am feeling a bit filthy about it tonight to be honest and not feel in a good humour about it all right now. Maybe when I have had chance to think about it all a bit more. But **** feels like we have thrown another 2 points away.

    Medically and factually incorrect. knob.

He did one knee, not both. Only one reconstruction with some extra work on the MCL.

Don't read Bossi's article about the match on SMH online. Utter rubbish.

Apart from a couple of ridiculous forays where the ball was seemingly glued to a single player's feet, that was a quite a good performance. To match (better than match, to be honest) one of the pacesetters in the league, and show more than a semblance of team work after some truly terrible games, was a sight to behold in what had been a forgettable season till tonight.

My only gripe from tonight, and I can't believe that I am complaining about this, is the RBB... Of all the nights to have a flat performance, why tonight? Apart from the opening chant, I can't help but feel that the travelling members of the Cove had more energy on display in the stands.

I don't get how people can complain about the RBB, what are they do to? Go around threatening people with knives to sing?

Haven't seen any replays but surely some WSW player was pushed in the box before SFC countered to ibini goal.

    Yep...that was my thoughts too.

It's as if some rich Al Hilal prick has lodged a few Saudi petrodollar bribes in the bank accounts of the likes of KGJ and Green to make sure some kind of warped cosmic karma is served up against us after out good fortune in the ACL.

And if I see another blonde haired toddler running the eastern sideline with a flag he got from Toy'sR'Us  I swear to ***** god I'm gonna find me a 7.62mm FN SLR and start going Lee Harvey Oswald on the dullard officials. Even a blind monkey with a gangrenous right leg and epoxy resin poured down his inner ears could judge offsides and throw ins better than that FFA employed part-time cabbage who was nearest to Bay 65.

Since we have been chasing the game, its time for popa to bite the bullet, take either la rocca/poljak off and add another striker upfront with juric

I dont know if its just me or Adeleke looks uncomfortable in one on one situations and has got himself in poor positions for the smurfs to allow themselves to break away which led to Ibini scoring that goal
