  • Golgol Mebrahtu And Daniel Mullen Sign For Wanderers

    mack

Winger Golgol Mebrahtu and defender Daniel Mullen have both been confirmed as Wanderers players today.

After weeks of speculation as to the future of ex-Melbourne Heart & Gold Coast winger Golgol Mebrahtu, he was released from his contract in Melbourne and has immediately joined the Western Sydney Wanderers. The club has indicated that Tony Popovic has tracked the 23 year old flyer for some time.

24 year old Mullen is best known in Australia for his 4 year stint with Adelaide United, that gave him Asian Champions League experience, as well as earning him a solitary Australian National Team cap. Mullen is a central defender by trade but is versatile and can play at right fullback.

Both players have been signed on 2 and a half year contracts through to season 2014/15, but will finish this season as part of the Asian Champions League squad.

interesting signings especially in regard to next season's squad, there's always a turnover of players and i know there will be more but this means at least 2 of the current squad will be leaving.

where can these guys play to get match fitness before ACL? i assume they can't play youth league. can they play in the NSWPL?

otherwise i can't see them having much impact in the ACL if they can't play beforehand. unless of course we get a long term injury then they can come in to the a-league squad as a replacement.

I like Mebrahtu. I think he is raw but got some talent.

Good coaching will straighten him out.

    Interesting moves by Popa.

I like how the ACL rules are being used to the maximum extent.

Very clever, the guy is such a mastermind!!! Never would I have imagined that he would sign players for acl only then tie up long term contracts for them after that!

Ingenious move by Popa for next season because they train with the team for the rest of the season. Get used to the style of system we play, the intensity we play at, get used to players we have currently, get their fitness levels up and get them into shape (how much work did Santa and Spira do before they got to play a part in the squad?). Next season they for right in without skipping a beat.

In terms of being worried about game time, since they would only be coming off the bench if anything, the fitness and training work they put in Monday-Friday will be enough for such limited match time they will be getting on the pitch unless we have a bad run of injuries!

LoL, a striker and a defender. What this means for the team next year leaves it open for so much speculation.

It's almost as if popa is expecting offers from Europe for Spira and Juric at the end of the season...... (Spira especially being so far above A-League quality it's not funny)

I would hope they both stay on- but we can't have everything

Interesting to see how next seasons squad is shaping up.. we've still got another 2 players to replace if Ono and Mooy are out.

If we have another deep run this year I'd be more worried about the offers from Europe for Popa...

Rumour was going around that he was listening to offers from Asia. Are you surprised though? After learning his trade with Palace, he gets a minor premiership and grand final appearance in his first season and how well we have backed up this season too.

Fixed. Getting really ******* sick of hearing this. I expect it from the non-football media, but have heard it on Fox football shows a lot recently.

I think under a good coach and playing in a team that's well drilled merbrahtu would develop well. I believe he plays right side MF for heart? back up/replacement for hersi. given Hersi form I don't think he warrants the kind of contract he is after. Mooy would be foolish to leave.

I think Gol Gol is a good signing. I have no idea why he hasnt been played more often at heart. Yeah he is a little raw, but he is a big lump of a lad and he is quick. Always tough marking these type of players. I know when we went up against him he caused us more than a few problems. Scored a cracker of a goal against us last year as well. Lets hope he settles in at WSW and we get the best out of him, which I am sure we will do.

Good signings, particularly considering they will help our squad this year by taking pressure off players during ACL
