    Football Federation Australia has released the draw for the 2014/15 A-League Season, kicking off the season

    with a blockbuster Friday night match at Etihad Stadium between the Wanderers and Melbourne Victory.

     

    Update: The FFA announced several changes to the draw in late September which may render elements of the following article no longer valid.

     

    The Western Sydney Wanderers will be fighting on three fronts this season, the inaugural FFA Cup, the A-League and also Asian Champions League.

     

    There are 120 days (3 months, 28 days) until the 10th of October when the opening match of the season will kick off. The Wanderers will play Melbourne Victory in the season opener at Etihad Stadium. The Wanderers and Melbourne Victory each won 1 game over the other last season while splitting the points in one of the games of the season late in December last year.

     

    Western Sydney will contest the Asian Champions League quarter-final against Guangzhou Evergrande over two legs, the home leg on the 20th of August and the away trip on the 27th. The Asian Champions League 2015/16 group stage, which the Wanderers are very likely to be entered into having finished second place in the A-League last season, will start towards the end of the season.

     

    The Football Federation Cup Round of 32 match has been rescheduled to a yet to be determined date, as it clashed with the ACL first leg. The FFA Cup final will be played on the 16th of December.

     

    The other matches in Round 1 see an F3 Derby between the Mariners & Newcastle to kick off on Saturday, with Sydney FC hosting Melbourne City at the Sydney Football Stadium in the late game. The "Distance Derby" between Wellington & Perth is the early Sunday game, and the round concludes with the Roar vs Adelaide at Suncorp.

     

    The Sydney Derby will be another series of highlights on the Australian sporting calendar. This season the Wanderers will host two derby matches at Parramatta Stadium, with the lone away match at the SFS being in Round 2. The two home derbies will be played in Round 8 (29th of November) & Round 20 (28 February). Other blockbuster fixtures include the Wanderers facing the newly coined Melbourne City for the first time in Round 11 on the 13th of December at Parramatta Stadium, and their Grand Final opponents from last season, the Brisbane Roar, in Round 4 at Parramatta Stadium.

     

    The A-League Premiership season will finish on the 19th of April with Perth vs Melbourne City. The Wanderers close their Premiership campaign with a match against Adelaide United at Parramatta Stadium on the 18th of April. The Finals Series will start on the 24th of April and finish with the Grand Final on the 10th of May.

     

    The Asian Cup, the premier international tournament for the Asian Football Confederation will begin on the 9th of January with Australia vs Kuwait and end with the Asian Cup Final on the 31st. The A-League is affected by the Cup, and as such the Wanderers will have a break of matches from the 6th of January until the 1st of February.

     

    Wanderers supporters can look forward to 17 games in New South Wales, which includes 1 in Gosford, 1 at the Sydney Football Stadium, 1 in Newcastle, 13 at Parramatta Stadium and 1 game at a to be determined location in Round 9 against Perth Glory.

     

    As always there are a number of matches scheduled outside the usual days, and these include the Wanderers Round 14 clash against the Mariners, which is being held on New Year's Day 2015 at Parramatta Stadium. Round 15 is on Tuesday the 6th of January against Melbourne Victory.

    Belmore is more central, didn't we play a game there already season one, or was I dreaming?

     

    where is belmore? i been to all nsw games in season 1. i dont think wanderers ever played there at all.

    I heard that club weren't happy about what happened last time they went to Penrith.

    Don't think we've had a pre-season game in Belmore.

     

    Club also mentioned that after last years pre-season, they may not be going back to Penrith and all stadiums will require at least 4k of seating.

    Wouldn't surprise me if the club never play in Penrith again. That's how strong some of the word from inside I heard about that game was.

    No arguments from me about Penrith. Together with the home games against Newcastle and Perth last season it was the most depressing and upsetting match. Very memorable for all the wrong reasons. I hope we'll never see a football match again where each active supporter has a member of the riot police sitting on their lap.

    Gambling Company Stadium & Penrith, really shot themself in the foot with how the pre-season match day experience was tainted.

     

    It's a true shame, especially to those thousands of Wanderers fans who live in the Penrith region and the Blue Mountains region.

     

    If you spend your days at Nepean Football Association grounds and matches - you will see many people from both the Penrith & Blue Mountains region's clubs, proudly wearing their Wanderers gear.

     

    I would love to see another Wanderers A-League team game in the region - but not with the same people who organised that clusterf*ck of a match day experience.

    Really hope WSW/FFA don't give up on the people of Nepean/Penrith.... Shame there's no other stadium in the (immediate) area that would accomodate us.

     

     

     

    Could always take it back to where it all began.... Cook Park*, St Marys (.... and not because I can walk home :ninja: )

    The only reason the W-League played at Penrith last year was because it was a TV game, and that match needed 4 drinks breaks because it was stupidly hot, if it wasn't a TV game it would have been called off.

     

    Those two games at Penrith were only behind our Adelaide tour match last season as the hottest games of football I've ever attended/seen/played in (although I got sick on the morning of the Adelaide game so maybe the Penrith ones were hotter). The pre-season match the RBB area had no shade, no wind, cops all up in our ****, security hassling everyone.

     

    I have no idea how the players managed to actually play in those temps.

     

    There were 3 NYL games at Cook Park. I'm sure the NYL team will end up playing at Cook Park because there's probably little to no cost involved for the club. Our 3 Cook Park NYL matches last season coincided with a Parramatta Stadium home match for the first team either the day before or the day after.

     

    It only takes 20 minutes or so to get from Blacktown Sports park to Cook Park, perhaps it means the squad can prepare/train/recover at Blacktown, then in the afternoon whoever from the first team has to play in the NYL match can just drive quickly over to Cook Park along with the NYL team.

     

    There was one NYL match played at Blacktown where we had a first team match the day before, the NYL match against SFC at Marconi was on the same day as a Wanderers first team away match, and the Campbelltown match was a double header with a first team away match the day before.

     

    So it seems to me like the club perhaps base their NYL matches around where the first team play that weekend. The W-League team get around a lot and play in proper stadiums since those games attract more people (100's instead of dozens).

    Season has been extended by 1 week. Grand Final now on Sunday May 17. This will be better for us (and roar and mariners) in terms of ACL games.

    Football Federation Australia (FFA) also announced some significant updates to the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season draw which includes moving the Hyundai A-League 2015 Grand Final to Sunday 17 May 2015, following recent confirmation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) of changes to next year’s AFC Champions League competition calendar.

     

    “As a result of the changes, matches that were originally listed in the “floating†Round 9 will be consolidated into a new Round 27 with the naming of the rounds to be amended accordingly. The Hyundai A-League 2015 Finals Series will now start on the weekend of 1-3 May with the Hyundai A-League 2015 Grand Final now scheduled for Sunday 17 May 2015.

    A couple of other changes affecting us:

    The kick off times for Friday night matches that were scheduled for 7:30pm (AEST/AEDT) will now kick-off at 7:40pm (AEST/AEDT)

     

    The venue for the Round 16 fixture between the Western Sydney Wanderers FC and Wellington Phoenix will be confirmed at a later date

    finally, from the club email from a couple of hours ago:

    there have been a number of amendments with the most notable being our Round 9 fixture against Perth Glory moving to Round 27 to be played on ANZAC Day (5pm April 25 2015) at Pirtek Stadium.

    I am confused. According to the updated schedule both round 9 and 27 against the glory are now player on April 25th? What am I missing?

    What was previously Round 9 ( a round with matches played on all types of days at all points of the year, including us playing Perth on a Tuesday) has been scrapped, and turned into Round 27. Consequently, every other round after 9 moves forward one. We no longer have that community round match against Perth midweek, we now play them on ANZAC day in the final round of the year. The season is now a week longer as a result. Our community round match is now against Wellington in February.

    yes, that pdf is incorrect, round 9 should say v adelaide united away on sat 6 dec.

     

    another thing to remember as mentioned is that confusingly rounds 10 to 27 have been re-numbered to rounds 9 to 26.
