    Jean-Paul de Marigny Departs Wanderers

    mack

Jean-Paul de Marigny was today left the Western Sydney Wanderers, just 9 months after he ascended to the head coach role following the sacking of Markus Babbel.

The Wanderers released a very short statement today on their website: "Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today parted ways with head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny. The club thanks Jean-Paul for his efforts and wishes him success in the future. The club will make an announcement in the coming days on a replacement coach."

It is unclear at this early stage if the move was a sacking, or if de Marigny left the club of his own accord.

Jean-Paul de Marigny's time at the club did result in a small uplift in the clubs performances, and he was able to keep the Wanderers from losing a Sydney derby this season. His final statistics in charge were 5 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses from 12 games, his best results coming in February as he lead the Wanderers to a 1-0 derby win, after smashing Adelaide United 5-2.

In the post Lockdown period however, the 3-1 loss to Perth and the 5-3 loss to Western United culled the small hopes of playing finals football, and a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory closed out the season.

The Wanderers have not announced a replacement at this time. Whoever it is will have their work cut out for them, as the club will be dealing with the loss of our best player Mitch Duke, having signed nothing but youth player upgrades at this point in the pre-season and with a massive cut in the salary cap looming.

Wanderers Chairman, at the time of de Marigny's appointment in July said “with JP at the helm and our squad working hard at our fantastic Centre of Football, we eagerly anticipate the return of the Hyundai A-League and watching our group take the steps required to make our many members and fans proud.”

Lederer's words ring hollow with the erstwhile head coach leaving just three months after his 'permanent' appointment.

Tbh I really don't care who the manager is as long as we are competitive and show some spirit and guts on the pitch. The last few seasons have been a pisstake on the fans by management. Has to end sooner rather than later.

IMO - any appointment will struggle with this season

As the club won't spend a lot during this Covid situation, we'll be here on post match threads talking about "school boy errors", "not tracking back", "shoot *****"

There are bad choices like Aloisi who have already shown that they can't deliver a trophy

The club has to be honest and tell people this coming season is a write off and we're going through a rebuild where we identify good young players through the academy and elsewhere

Anything above finishing last will be a bonus :nono:

Considering both parties allowed discussions would you think that means Jets could be willing to let him go?

If this is the road they are going down, wonder if they approached or considered approaching Talay or Rudan.....

Considering the quality and experience of coaches other teams are picking up this year (Kisnorbo, Garcia, Moon etc)  I think Robinson is a really good option in the current environment.
Yeah, it could all implode 5 weeks in, but at least its a sign the club are not content with where we are currently at. I was starting to think they were.

I don't buy this moral rubbish - he was with the Jets, they want him off their books cos financially they will be lucky to survive and can't pay him and WSW wanted a coach.  Happens all over the world, in every league in the world no different than what happened to JP, he wanted his staff and his dollars, Club said No so he left - that's football.

As for his credentials in the current environment it is a good move - OS coaches were never in the picture, local coaches of any quality are all contracted, his record with the Jets (who really had nothing to play for and not much quality) included wins over both grand finalists, and in total 6 of the top 7 teams in the league in his 10 games in charge.  He really only faltered against teams they were probably expected to beat like Us, ccm (draw) and victory (draw) which is very WSW in itself, should be a good fit.  Aside from results as others have said the Jets were attractive to watch which is one thing we cannot say under ANY of our previous coaches probably ever.

Talay would be good. There was a lot of opposition to Rudan on social media last time his name came up !!

It looks like it, but if I were the  Jets I'd definitely be asking for compensation before releasing him

If it's Robinson you should have a listen to his interview with Adam Peacock on the Fox pod during the Covid break. Seems like he has a strong philosophy and good man management. Under the circumstances he seems a good pick up considering what's available and realistic. Would prefer him to JP.

I thought the Jets found a potential buyer not too long ago

They pulled out while FFA were in the process of checking their financial information.

    Add Brebner, Veart etc.

The majority of the league has new coaches that have never coached in the AL before other than a few weeks at the end of last season.

Majority of the league will be youth based and most coaches will have directives to cap youth.

It's a completely different proposition now compared to previous years. JP was never the right option under these circumstances. He couldn't even motivate or rotate an experienced squad that knew they had to win every game after months off.

Have been considering the same, but will hang in there for another year. I just can't let go of my pride in a 3 digit membership number......the football wheel turns, albeit sometimes slowly.

I hope the new coach's middle name is Patrick or something else starting with a P . So we can have his three initials on his jacket and provide the CPR we badly require.
