  • Parramatta Stadium To Be Rebuilt!

    mack

The NSW Government have announced long awaited plans to knock down and rebuild Parramatta Stadium, the home of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 30,000 planned capacity is the culmination of the long-term stadium development strategy of the NSW Government, with the political lobbying and jockeying between Parramatta Stadium, the Sydney Football Stadium, ANZ Stadium and Penrith Stadium finally put to rest, at least in terms of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The first stadium to be built is a new Parramatta Stadium, with the existing stadium demolished to make way for a new 30,000 capacity stadium. A new stadium at Moore Park in the CBD will be between 50,000 and 55,000 seats, and it is likely that ANZ Stadium will be fully rectangularised and may have a retractable roof.

Another potential long-term boom for either the Wanderers or the A-League itself, is a plan for a new stadium in Western Sydney perhaps at Penrith or Liverpool, both locations could provide for matches to be played by the Wanderers, or see the stadium as the home for a new A-League team.

The new Parramatta Stadium is expected to be complete by early 2019 at a cost of approximately $300 million.

I call upon the Wanderers, Football Federation Australia and the NSW Government to ensure that our club is not left out of discussions about the facilities and design at the venue, European style Safe Standing should be a priority at the new stadium to ensure a fully world class venue.

While it is likely the naming rights will be up for sale, I also put forward that the new stadium be called Dino Park.

Dear lord, I can't believe I am coming around to supporting some games at #NoToANZ. As Hughsey said, only on the condition that once we get a new stadium, we

    Never

    Ever

    Play there again.

You might have to give in and play there again one day. The AFC changed the regulations for the ACL after we won it. Now the final must be played in a 45k minimum stadium. (it might be 40k minimum).

That's not true. The first leg of the final this year is being played in a <10k stadium.

19.6. Each Match of the Final shall be played in a Stadium approved by the AFC with a minimum capacity of forty thousand (40,000) spectators. The Venue shall be decided by the AFC taking into consideration all logistical factors, including without limitation, accommodation and transportation.

    http://www.the-afc.com/uploads/afc/files/acl_2015_competition_regulations_final.pdf

    Fair enough

However the first leg of the final this year is being held in a stadium that only fits around 10k.

That Antalya stadium is fricken awesome by the way. You just have to love that steep rake. Make you feel like you are on top of the action. No chance something that awesome gets built in Australia.

Unless it's considered "World Class" or it's "how they do it in Melbourne" then we've got no chance.

I think it's mad, has a real cool character to it, bit different to usual.

Im going to break this down

Now there was a bit of chatter on Twitter last night about a replacement venue whilst we rebuild Pirtek. Here is a list of the potential venues:

    Pepper Stadium (Penrith)

    • 22,500 capacity (including grass hills)
    • Has been used before by WSW
    • Poor transport links and parking
    • Close to the action
    • Stadium exterior is congested and limited options for food/drink apart from Panthers
    • Long travel for south-west and inner-west supporters
I disagree about the parking, there's plenty of parking around the stadium and I havent had any problems parking in Penrith, and there are variety of places available to eat around Penrith. But yes the problem with Penrith is the distance that members have to travel from the Southwest and inner west. The other problem is that it gets so hot out in Penrith in the summertime.

The one thing you forgot to mention about Pepper is no one uses it during the off season.

    ANZ Stadium (Sydney Olympic Park)

    • 83,500 capacity
    • Good transport and parking links
    • Too far from the field, lack of atmosphere
    • Too big in capacity (except derby)
    • All current members guaranteed seat
    • Limited bars/restaurants nearby, but has improved of late
    • Cheaper rent for the club (based off details with NRL tennants)
    • Reasonably central to all regions
With ANZ, you have 5 NRL teams that use this stadium plus the Waratahs play an odd game or 2 at ANZ, it is the most over used ground in the country. Also you got monster trucks that happens around October/November which the stadium can't be used for 4-6 weeks. If ANZ comes in with the offer to have games played there, how are they going to fit us in when the NRL season starts? In all honesty, I can only us play the Sydney derbies there + an odd game against the Victory.

    Marconi Stadium and/or Edensor Park

    • Capacities approx 10,000 each
    • Not enough room for all members
    • Close to large supporter area, however long distance for far-west and north-west supporters
    • Limited transport and venues outside of ground
    • Older facilities
    • Close to field, good atmosphere
    • Links to ethnic bases, which may dissuade the FFA from any long-term deal
I went to watch our girls play at Marconi last Sunday, honestly, both Stadiums are in the middle of no where, access to both grounds is a bit hard which ever you are coming from.

    Campbelltown Stadium

    • Capacity 21,000 (including grass hills)
    • Limited seating for all members (not guaranteed)
    • Long distance from most membership regions
    • Limited transport links
    • Previously used by WSW
Like Penrith, isn't used by anyone or its even barely used by the Tigers.

    Spotless Stadium (Sydney Olympic Park)

    • Capacity 24,000
    • Good transport and parking links
    • Too far from the field, lack of atmosphere, but capacity is spot-on
    • All current members guaranteed seat
    • Limited bars/restaurants nearby, but has improved of late
    • Reasonably central to all regions
    • Used by cricket mid-season
Problems with Spotless is it is not only used by the Manuka Midgets and the Cricket, its also used for the Easter Show and Stereosonic

    So... there are your options...

In all honesty, I think Penrith is the best option out of all the other stadiums.

But but, it can only seat 9k... The rest of the so called 13k is standing..

    Link to comment

I'd say spotless, or Campbeltown for capacity and only because any kind of successful match days @ANZ attendance wise will only encourage them to stay there

Apparently the Antalya stadium produces it's own power as well as power for 550 surrounding houses. This thing is incredible! I want it. We need this stadium.

Just how frigging awesome is it  the roof is covered in solar panels.

Above all else though I just love those opera box style ends. I keep staring at them and imagining being in there for a derby.

Cheers to gazmon who originally found it.

I think that the footprint is too big for our site from memory.

But I agree with you (and Jukes01... and, um, jackdoff ).

all the options have drawbacks, I'm still struggling to say yes to ANZ for anything other than the big games. It's a an atmosphere black hole unless you get 30+k there.

Like most of Sydney I have never been to spotless stadium, but seems like best of a bad bunch.

Have a couple of games at the Riff maybe one at Campbelltown. Derbys at ANZ. I know there is loads of problems with that, but gotta be better than ANZ.

Is temporary seating behind the goals at the Jacob Pepper stadium a possibility or some sort of safe standing?

    Link to comment

Spotless is ok, first row is high off the ground so sight lines are great. Stadium is fully enclosed so atmosphere is also comparable to the other small stadiums. Only issue is distance from the action

Every red cent that goes into the Riff games funds Panthers and/or the local cops who have never been accepting of the Wanderers or our culture, except when it suits their bottom line.

Plus, going to ANZ means at least most folk can aggregate at Parra in our usual haunts like the Bav, Collector and Woolie, then train it to the Olympic precinct. It may be soulless except for the very biggest events, however if we do our job well that problem has been addressed as well as it can be. All the other problems at all the other grounds are out of our control.

Pretty sure that pepper stadium is a council owned stadium - so any profit made wouldn't necessarily go to panthers or the police. It could go to our club or even worse - Penrith city council. :shok:

Nah...that's '66'. As in 66 glassings outside the foyer every Sunday morning at 3am as drunk local yokels have a barney.

    Hahaha! I see that now...

66 evictions at the NRL, but police praised the crowd.

Spotless for all games except for the derby. Have it at ANZ.

Play as many home games as we can there when it's available, and then have back to back away games during the cricket season / easter show, with away games at Mariners / Newcastle / East Sydney so we're not travelling interstate every single week when it's out of action.

Penrith / Campbelltown could realistically host one off home game and it be called the Community Round or whatever it is, but not counted as a home game for season tickets.

Sharing the games around would be a nightmare logistically, and having every single game at ANZ would be a f*cking waste.

Yes owned by the council but leased to Panthers for peanuts.  Panthers operate the stadium including the food and drink outlets which are staffed by Panthers employees.

    Why not Gaz?

Maybe it's the seats, but it just looks... too 'busy' I guess.

    Just me :)

    Fair enough.

The actual interior is a great design and would be very noise inducing I'd imagine.

Even the RBB have private suites!! (for the rich concreters amongst them.)

And the roof is exceptional for coverage.

I know the footprint is too big, but I'd love a design similar to this, or at least along those lines.

I'm with gaz on the seats.

@leslie, the membership cap prevents people from thinking about coming. I'd love to know how many walkups we do get but it can't be many. And the way tickets are released in batches mean that the casual fan - who represents a potential rusted on fan - looks to buy tickets, sees only tickets in the south end perhaps, and goes, okay I guess I won't go. The more often that happens the less likely they care to come at all. But overall the demand is there imo and it will grow.

We had over 14000 there yesterday with storms pending, after winning 3 from the previous 30.

Imagine when we start winning again?

With regards to the seats in the Turkish stadium - that's just cosmetic. Easily changed.

This worries me a lot.  I don't trust for 1 second the SCG Trust to do the right thing for ANZ Stadium.

SCG Trust poised to take over ANZ Stadium
    Date November 14, 2015 - 9:35PM
Daniel Lane Sports reporter & Video journalist

The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust is believed to be on the verge of taking control of ANZ Stadium after NSW Premier Mike Baird met with Trust members.

The idea of allying the SCG, Allianz Stadium and the ANZ Stadium was seen as a way to end what was described as the city's billion-dollar stadium war. It appears as though once the deal is finalised the Moore Park-based trust will manage Sydney's three major venues and the way in which funds are distributed.

In June a newspaper report suggested the formation of a "super trust" when the government buys out ANZ Stadium's private operators.

Fairfax Media understands the Premier met recently with the 14 trustees — which include former Test cricketers Steve Waugh and Stuart MacGill, ex-Wallaby Phil Waugh and broadcaster Alan Jones. Details of what was said – apart from the trust's expanded role to take in ANZ Stadium and that the deal has not been finalised – are being kept confidential but it would appear the initial suggestion that the Baird government would form a smaller trust could be scrapped.

Neither the trust nor the office of Stuart Ayres, the state's Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, wanted to discuss the issue when contacted by Fairfax Media.

"The SCG Trust continues to work closely with the government on the future of sporting infrastructure in NSW," said a trust representative.

The minister's office was unwilling to comment, but he was happy to offer the trust his support on Thursday when asked for his view on the Sheffield Shield match between NSW and Victoria being abandoned last Sunday when the outfield was deemed too dangerous to continue play.

"It was disappointing," Mr Ayres said. "But over the longer term I'm not overly concerned, I'm very comfortable with the quality of the management at the SCG."

    • Pep Guardiola: "I'm going to defend you until the last day of our lives in the press". Rudan: Runs onto the field at full-time to berate an attacker for a goal coughed up by the two fullbacks being lazy, then slates him in a post-game interview and the press conference.  Sure, he apologised for "singling him out", did he apologise for singling out the wrong player to start with? The Mariners & Nix finished 5th & 6th in 21/22 when Rudan took over. Rudan's second year we finished 4th then lost to the smurfs in Round 1 while the Mariners won the Grand Final. 3rd year, CCM are the favourites for the Premiership, the Nix have a chance if CCM drop points, and we're back in 6th with a game tomorrow against a team who beat us 7-0 earlier in the season that if we lose we're out of the finals spots, and even if we made it, we're probably just going to lose to Victory in Week 1. I'm so over this ****. Rudan has had three years and done **** all to improve things, he's not done well enough to add all this pointless drama and bullshit.
    • Does he miss the next match?
    • Couldn't they just play their NPL team? it would have been unlikely ADL would have beaten them as well
