  • Parramatta Stadium To Be Rebuilt!

    mack

The NSW Government have announced long awaited plans to knock down and rebuild Parramatta Stadium, the home of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 30,000 planned capacity is the culmination of the long-term stadium development strategy of the NSW Government, with the political lobbying and jockeying between Parramatta Stadium, the Sydney Football Stadium, ANZ Stadium and Penrith Stadium finally put to rest, at least in terms of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The first stadium to be built is a new Parramatta Stadium, with the existing stadium demolished to make way for a new 30,000 capacity stadium. A new stadium at Moore Park in the CBD will be between 50,000 and 55,000 seats, and it is likely that ANZ Stadium will be fully rectangularised and may have a retractable roof.

Another potential long-term boom for either the Wanderers or the A-League itself, is a plan for a new stadium in Western Sydney perhaps at Penrith or Liverpool, both locations could provide for matches to be played by the Wanderers, or see the stadium as the home for a new A-League team.

The new Parramatta Stadium is expected to be complete by early 2019 at a cost of approximately $300 million.

I call upon the Wanderers, Football Federation Australia and the NSW Government to ensure that our club is not left out of discussions about the facilities and design at the venue, European style Safe Standing should be a priority at the new stadium to ensure a fully world class venue.

While it is likely the naming rights will be up for sale, I also put forward that the new stadium be called Dino Park.

Knocking down Allianz would be stupid. Apart from smurf fans glass botteling the RBB from the corporate boxes there is not much wrong with Allianz. When it's full it has a great atmosphere.

There is nothing much right with ANZ as it stands right now. But a renovated 80k seater - now that would be something. If they were to put a roof on it: it would come off at the derby.

100% agree with first part of your post about allianz. No one has been able to adequately explain to me why it needs all that money spent on it. Having been to a few stadiums around the world I think for atmosphere/actually watching football it is right up there and to me it still seems fit for purpose.

Alexander did a good job a few pages back or maybe in the old thread, saying it's terrible for wheelchair access. I'm sure there's not much that requires the knock down and start over approach though surely.

Even fixing up the wheelchair access wouldn't require that much investment. Basically, all they need to do is:

        1.  make 1 stall wide enough for wheelchair access in each of the men's and women's bathrooms

throughout the stadium (like at Bluetongue Stadium)

        2.  create space for 2 wheelchair plus 2 companion seats the top of the stairs between each bay on Level 1

             - wouldn't need to be between every bay either, perhaps every 2nd or 3rd bay.

I was in the back couple of rows at ANZ several years ago for Rugby World Cup match. Yes ant like as others have mentioned. But also physically demanding to get to my seat. Now they are talking about a steeper rake - sounds heart attack inducing to me!

The roof slopes in towards the pitch so steeper means less rows. ;)
Pardon my ignorance - can you explain a bit more?

And does steeper rake actually mean steeper stairs/steps to get to your seats? If so then I would actually be concerned with the physical ability of myself and many others to reach their seat. Back in 2005 I was on the verge of stopping to recover before reaching my seat and 10 years on I'm no younger and my legs ache much sooner when climbing stairs.

My comment was tongue in cheek.  The roof of ANZ slopes down from the back towards the pitch meaning that a steeper rake (slope) on the stand results in the tier of seating intersecting the line of the roof lower than it currently does and closer to the pitch.  i.e. the steps are higher and the vertical space is less so their are less but steeper steps.

In reality there is a maximum allowable slope on steps which is about 34 degrees.  I don't have any detail as to whether this has been relaxed by any authority in Australia.  In some places in Europe the allowable slope is greater.  i.e. from memory in Italy it is 41 degrees.

If Wanderland 2.0 does get up and running I still would love to see my vision of the National Museum of Australian Football & Soccer be integrated into the structure

Have you written to Gallop/FFA and the Premier about it?  I think it is worth taking up in official channels.

The FFA appointed a panel of historians to advise them a few years ago.  They might be good for support of the idea.

When Ben gets in touch with me tomorrow hopefully i will pass on this idea to him!

The nou camp has a rake so steep and goes so high I was scared to look down.

I noted Ed's comments about scaling some steeply raked stadium steps.... and what West and AEK said about feeling anxious when some positions at the top of a stadium are so steep.

Can't remember how I felt right at the top of ANZ during the Olympics... but the top and in the middle of AAMI is a bit dizzying.

And some overseas stadia I've seen on TV (maybe during Asian Cup?) look to me almost as steep as climbing a ladder!   :o  :o

It'd still be worth it though, to get really decent seats... ......I think.

I was right up the top few rows when Manchester United played the (lol) A-League All Stars. I needed some sherpas and a couple of oxygen bottles to get up there.

Much nicer for the Asian Cup where I bought halfway seats  :xnod:

Yes... it's a bit like that!  A safety harness wouldn't go astray either!   ;)

I have only been to level 6 at ANZ once, Australia v Uruguay for 2006 World Cup qualifier, players look like ants, so far away from everything!

Thought you should know, old girl is in Greece at the moment she sends me a pic from a sportstore asking which jersey i wanted there was green and red and white stripe i said gimme the yellow AEK purely from seeing your avatar on here. Show me some love.

Welcome to the family, gimme a massive manhug!

To get 'closer to the action' requires no more than expanding the CPC bays either side of 55 and 56. Saw a mad AEK 'yellow & black hell' scarf at an Omonia Athens news-stand last week. Should have bought it for.....and staying with an AEK bent family in Crete at the minute

I'm not scared of heights or anything like that but I found it a bit touch and go walking up and down those stairs right up in the nose bleeds at ANZ. You really have to watch yourself, one wrong step and you're done... Surely they couldn't make it any steeper, you'd be close to going up on all fours.

Not the best pic, but this was the view from the Gods in Bay 600-something for the Socceroos vs South Africa match:

That steel cable stopping anyone from taking a tumble hardly inspired confidence.

    BTW...

If Wanderland 2.0 actually goes ahead it needs to be prioritised that there is a Bavarian Bier Cafe shop front within the Eastern/Northern stands' precincts.

Pisses me off I can't get a proper stein and schnitzel unless I walk back the 10 minutes to the BBC in Parra itself.

Ha, I was wondering how long it would take for someone to suggest this. Tbh, I'd settle for non-generic stadium food. Although steins and pork knuckles in the stadium prior to the match would be spectacular :xnod: Edited by Alexander

we need beer pipelines installed similar to this :Phttp://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/veltins-arena-s1418/

Schalke's stadium food and drink options:

"There are many food and drink counters on ground level and on the walkway of the second tier. There is a lot of variety of sodas, beer, and coffee. The price for 1/2 liter of cola is €3.60, and the same amount of mineral water will cost you €3.00. The price for 1/2 liter Veltins beer is also €3.60, but for all beverages you have to pay a €1.00 deposit for the plastic cup it's in.

There is also a large variety of typical German food to choose from. You can buy a bratwurst or bockwurst for €2.50, and all are served with a small piece of bread. A hot dog costs €2.70, and you can be the owner of a krakauer or a schnitzel for the price of €3.70. Keep in mind that you can't pay with cash in the stadium, and you'll have to buy a special kind of credit card (Knappenkarte) inside the ground."

Okay, have started work on a new design, keeping in with some of the requests so far. Apologies for the image size, but that's how big they're uploaded originally.

So I've had to use the bowl design for the extends of the stadium (will look better once a roof is done) to squish it into the existing site as best I can. The eastern side has a large open area (in the centre of the lower tier) so we can get Manfred's Bar in there. The RBB end is larger than the southern-end, which itself has an open deck and will have large viewing windows to showcase the new and improved Parramatta skyline.

    Love ya work Gaz.

Can I just say though, that I don't like curved upper tiers.

I prefer my tiers to be even and extend around ends. There is more enclosure that way, trapping more sound. I would love double tiers at the ends, with the roof extending around as an even entity.

    Good stuff though.

There was a design you did previously for the 30500 capacity stadium, which I thought was perfect. I'll try and dig it up.

Would it be feasible to have a similar (but smaller) open area at the same walkway height in the North Terrace so the accessible seating/spaces don't have to be so detached from the rest of the RBB. Perhaps extending the terrace a few rows higher so there is no loss in capacity, but still remaining a single tier.

    Asking for a friend :ninja:

I also prefer the uniform design all around, but the above one with the red/black seats wouldn't fit lengthwise in the current space, that was a fantasy design.

The other option is to do something similar to the above, but just have the ends smaller and without a 2nd tier, but still enclosed?
